seroquel in depression

seroquel works on the dopamine mainly. THUS useful in mania and mixed states only but NOT in depression contrary to what advertised by wiki. In fact the medicine brochure tells you it's a strong antimanic and doesn't mention anything about its AD property. So when one is depressed it won't help. for me it was God send for my mania and mixed states, but for the depression i took AD's.

i have suffered with anxiety and depression for over 30 years. i have been on valium for 10 years. it helped the anxiety but not the depression. last week my stress was so high i felt like a nervous breakdown. my dr. prescribed seroquel 25 to 50 mg five days ago. for the first time i do not feel dpressed or anxiety. i stopped taking the valium when i started the seroquel. my valium has been a very high dose 60mg a day. will i get withdrawl symptoms from stopping the valium?

Cymbalta can work wonders for some people that have depression. It's one of the more stimulating meds though. Seroquel used to be used more for bi-polar but is being used more often now for depression. Did your Dr explain why they wanted you to take this med combo? I do agree with SassyLassie. Call the pharmacy because they'll know if you can takes these meds together safely.

I was driven manic by an AD and landed smoothly by seroquel. That was 3 years ago. So I kept the seroquel and since it's good for depression I wasn't in need for an AD. Also since no AD then no mania. So I am almost stable on seroquel. As for the equivalence I was interested to know how much it's equal to risperidone because I was on the latter for 6 years 1mg. By taking seroquel I was sad as I augmented my drugs due to my 1st mania.

I have experienced depression for many yrs. I have been prescribed more anti-depressants than I can hardly recall. Most were new on the market, thus very expensive.They were of little benefit. Recently my MD. gave me some samples of 50 mg. of Seroquel XR. After reading the info with the medication, it says Seroquel is prescribed for bi-polar disorder. In my case I don't get the up or manic phase. I was hoping that this medication may be helpful for depression alone.

I am currently taking 1mg of Klonipin, 20mg Ambien, 200mg Nortriptyline and 50mg Seroquel. Pharmacist are just can't believe that I take that much every night. I find myself waking up, getting out of bed and my legs are like jello. I cannot walk, I fall on things and actually get hurt. When I get up the next morning I see bruises all over me. I want to stop taking any of those so I guess I need to wing myself off. If I miss one day, I am so disoriented it is horrible.

I am replying to your post just for the sake of support. But your questions are always difficult to answer. Mixed states occur when one is depressed but also angry. He doesn't take an antidepressant which provokes this state, it could well be the disease. I tried myself to function with no AD but failed. Now i am under stablon a French AD non-existent in Canada i am afraid but fantastic for anxiety and mild. There is the welbutrin they say doesn't bring mania.

Many sites tells you information about the equivalence of antipsychotics. For instance 100 seroquel = 1 risperidone = 3 zyprexa. My information is that all are given to prevent mania and reduce dopamine responsible for psychosis. Yet seroquel especially is given for depression too this is why it works as a mood stabilizer. Some say all atypical are the same but seroquel seems to be different from readings and at least it works for me.

should i stop taking the wellbutrin for depression and increase my dosage of seroquel xr to 300-400mg?

So, yes, you could need to increase in Seroquel as your symptoms change/increase. At the same time, Seroquel dosage could stay the same and another drug be added or the Risperdal be increased. It will be dependent upon your case.

You are the first person I have seen here other than myself who takes seroquel. I take it in conjunction with klonopin, tramadol, zoloft, and vistiril. I suspect that your seroquel has been added to other meds you take? This is not ordinarily the first drug a doctor will try for psychotic problems. I, too have bad memory, and I know it is from these drugs, after having been on them plenty long enough.

So they put me on a medication they put me on Seroquel.I've been on Seroquel for 7 years . I have a borderline personality disorder, but I'm not bipolar (as far as I know) and I'm taking Seroquel (don't know why) and Lexapro (for anxiaty & depression). Why are you changing from seroquel to lamictal? I am just curious as I perhaps too might be changing from seroquel to something else in the near future. It's some unwanted side effects for me.I tried stopping the med unsupervised (don't do this at home) and I had a real job sleeping afterwards, so perhaps be prepared for that (I am back on now until I can see my pdoc).

When i had rages twice i thought mixed episode but pdoc said anxiety and i suspected he was wrong then because i took seroquel and it disappeared. So could the AD side of seroquel killed the anxiety/depression? in which case i could have taken an AD solely to remove it. The reason for not taking AD then is that i considered it a starting mania especially that the anafranil was my only AD for 4 years and responsible for my 1st mania.

I still feel the electric shocks and muscle aches from the withdrawal of my previous antidepressant (paroxetine) and I started getting a pounding heartfrom the seroquel. I went to see my gp who reduced my seroquel to seroquel xl 50 mg and I am to go back in a week to her, while I do not see the psychiatrist again for 5 weeks. My palpitations have stopped but the mood swings and depression have returned to just how they were before I reduced the dose. I do not know what to do..

My psychiatrist wanted to give me a mood stabilizer along with Seroquel but now there is no need for that ... He said depression was expected as a side effect of treating mania but it will be gone and that's what happened .....

I don't know what seroquel is, is it for depression only? My husband is on paxil but there are so many medications for depression out there, maybe something is better for you that wont give you a panick attack after taking it. I have anxiety and sometimes now take ativan if i need it, was taking it twice a day for awhile but only 1/2 when i feel nervous and insecure.

Thank you Anonymouse88 I did go speak to my pharmacist tonight. As he said, that's the thing about starting new meds. You never know how you're going to react. Not only did I start 2 new ones the same night, I also came off the only one I was on the same night. You cannot take Topomax and Seroquel. I haven't. No wonder my brain is so screwed up and to make matters just so much worse, I have had NO ONE to talk me through this. I have no idea how I should be feeling.
