766412 tn?1234893283 Has anyone found seroquel to alleviate their depression? I am Bipolar 1 and just recently started taken this drug. Thanx for your replies.
Avatar m tn SEROQUEL XR is not approved to treat depression; however, SEROQUEL is approved to treat bipolar depression. SEROQUEL and SEROQUEL XR are not approved for patients under the age of 18 years. The most common side effects are dry mouth, drowsiness, sedation, dizziness, high blood sugar, weakness, constipation, abdominal pain, sudden drop in blood pressure upon standing, sore throat, weight gain, abnormal liver tests, upset stomach, and sluggishness. Sounds kinda nasty to me.....
Avatar f tn Seroquel and epilim are very good medications for mania, anger, mood swings and psychosis. There are indeed others as lindahand says, though - lots of others. Seroquel and epilim are usually the ones they try you with first (or lithium instead of epilim). Seroquel is an anti-psychotic (also prescribed for anger and mood problems) and epilim is an anti-convulsant (also prescribed as a mood stabiliser). But talking therapy is as important as drugs if not more so, in such situations as these.
574118 tn?1305135284 I just looked at the pi sheet, and the target dose for bipolar depression is 300 mg, where it should be less sedating than lower doses (the crazymeds.us wiki says above 200 mg is the cutoff for that one). 400-800 mg for mania. It's off label to use risperidone for the depressive side of bipolar, but if anything, you'd want to increase it, not decrease it. A Seroquel increase is probably a better thing to try first. And side effects often decrease after a couple of weeks.
574118 tn?1305135284 monotherapy and only AP approved for depression etc... What is the exact I mean the EXACT meaning of a mood stabilizer. Some would say seroquel is one, but I began to wonder. OR else I am getting worse perhaps: 1. 12 years ago, it was depression only (took antidepressant+risperidal) 2. with an antidepressant only (didn't know yet my case I was trying to stop medications) after a while got mania (things changed since then) 3. so added again the risperdal 4.
Avatar f tn I too am bipolar and on seroquel. Seroquel is an anti-psychotic. Please don't let that word "psychotic" make you upset all though I admit it does kind of stink. I also take Lamtrogine or Lamictal. I've been on tegretal and it worked for a long time for me. There are so many out there. I personally take Lamicatl Welbutrin Trazodone Seroquel These are my bipolar meds all though I do have physical health problems that I also take meds for.
Avatar m tn My psychiatrist thinks I have Bipolar II, but I've never had a hypomanic experience outside of the two times I've tried SSRIs. I've struggled with depression for as long as I can remember, I'm 24. I tried prozac when I was 21 and had a hypomanic experience 2 months in. At that time I was drinking a TON, abusing adderall, and getting little sleep. Then 3 years later I tried celexa, and after 3 days I felt good, then after about 5 I felt too good.
Avatar f tn I have been taking a number of medications since I turned 21 in 2008, the first being Prozac, Adderall, and Seroquel. I was only prescribed Seroquel for as long as my doctor wanted to "observe possible Bipolar symptoms".... after about 3 months he took me off Seroquel. After years of continued difficulty with bouts of depression, anger/irritability, sleep, I saw a new doctor in 2015 who prescribed Abilify 5mg along with Adderall.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and have been on Seroquel 200 mg for approx one year. Since being on the med I have experienced extreme forgetfulness. My short term memory is especially affected and it's getting progressively worse. I don't think forgetfulness is listed as a side effect of Seroquel. I was wondering if anyone else on this med has experienced the same.
874521 tn?1424116797 Hi there, I am on seroquel and effexor, I am also on epilim for my bipolar, for me the combination works really well although my seroquel dose is 50 mg, i think there are two strengths of seroquel. But I find that the combination of seroquel, effexor 150 and epilim 800 after a lot of tweaking, crying, mania, thrashing about finally works. i have noticed though that i have stacked on the weight, but after some research have found that these meds can do that.
1039200 tn?1314912008 Seroquel working as a mood stabilizer should treat depression. I believe that I experienced some minor depression when I was on Seroquel but that's not that common. It definitely should treat paranoia as that's part of psychosis in general.
Avatar n tn Where can I find info on what drugs there are for bipolar? what is the difference between bipolar and depression?
Avatar n tn I have a borderline personality disorder, but I'm not bipolar (as far as I know) and I'm taking Seroquel (don't know why) and Lexapro (for anxiaty & depression). I've read Seroquel is for bipolar, maniac depression and schizofrenia but I'm not sure which of this three aplies in my case. I cut myself, have burned, starve, binge, make myself throw up, have anxiaty atacks and I am generally depressed.....
574118 tn?1305135284 While seroquel is known for being one of the best atypicals for the depression phase of bipolar, many atypicals are mood stabilizing and cover both mania and depression. One thing you might ask your doctor if you can try is stopping the seroquel and starting abilify in its place. Abilify is approved as a monotherapy or adjunct treatment for BP I, and is also approved as an antidepressant add-on, so if depression is your problem, it might work.
Avatar f tn So the seroquel is to help with depression, no bipolar or anything? I think if you are concerned about your weight ( which I totally understand cos I am) I would ask for a different one, you seem very depressed at the moment and there isn't going to be much chance of you exercising when depressed so gaining weight will just make you feel worse. You need to feel better mentally before you can get to the point where you don't feel as anxious about your weight.
459981 tn?1212193981 i know its late at night but i am hoping that there are some people on tat can talk with me. i have been prescribed seroquel for bipolar 2 disorder and i have not begun taking it yet because frankly i am just scared of not knowing what to expect. is there anyone who has or is talikng this medication that can talk with me about positive or negative experiences with it? i would be most grateful.
574118 tn?1305135284 It was complex for myself as a person with schizoaffective disorder or people I knew with bipolar with psychotic features as there a mood stabilizer and an antipsychotic was neccessary. With straight bipolar Seroquel being an FDA approved mood stabilizer should work at a therapeutic dose. You can see if at a proper dose you can tolerate the akathesia. Akineton does work but it is one of many side effect pills. You can see if it works for you.
5544493 tn?1369608788 While seroquel does interact with a lot of things (including wellbutrin), ibuprofen isn't one of them, according to the drugs.com interaction checker. Wellbutrin is an antidepressant, not a mood stabilizer, although it's one of the least likely to send a bipolar person (hypo)manic. And everyone's different--seroquel is a marvelous drug for some, and absolutely horrible for others.
Avatar f tn Even though he has not diagnosed you bipolar you are on bipolar medications (Lamictal and Seroquel). Does he know you quit taking the Lamictal? I wonder why he has you on those if you are not diagnosed BP? Also, why Beta Blockers? Is that supposed to help your anxiety? Have you contacted someone to get a second opinion yet? There are good psychiatrist and bad ones as well. Trust me, I had a really bad one and it almost cost me my life! Keep up posted!
Avatar m tn I have bipolar/panic disorder and every time I took seroquel I had a massive panic attack, ate a lot, then slept for 12+ hours. The longest I have ever slept on seroquel is 72 hours straight... it will knock you out. It also makes you feel sluggish and lethargic throughout the day... not even my Dexedrine helped. I've tried ambien, trazodone, and risperdal for sleep but the best medicine I've found is klonopin.
