Seroquel for sleeping disorders

Common Questions and Answers about Seroquel for sleeping disorders

seroquel

1255936 tn?1296623461 What is the dose for treatment of such disorders and not just a low dose for sleeping? I hear 25mg is really not high enough to be effective for GAD or anything else other than a sleeping aid (why anyone would take a anti-psych for a sleep aid is beyond me). I hear that 200-300 mg is the dose for treating GAD, BP, and depression. I will be seeing my doc tomorrow to discuss increasing the dosage. Any input from anyone on the "front lines" would be awesome! Cheers!
16773127 tn?1451336964 I also need Seroquel to sleep decently (have been an insomniac since childhood), and it would be the perfect medication for insomnia if not for the weight gain problem. To make things worse, a few years ago I was also on Abilify. I was fat and happy for a while there. When the doctor changed & took me off the Abilify, I was astonished that I lost about 20 pounds without changing anything.
Avatar f tn I would strongly opt for a second opinion- seroquel is very powerful and is usually not recommend for children under ten years of age, some studies indicate it should not be used until the age of eighteen.. If he is suffering from any behavioral disorders such as ADHD, Maic depression, O.D.D, etc, which can be hard to diagnosed at such a younge age, psychological/cognitive testing might also be a great option to pinpoint a diagnonsis and proper treatment if need be!.
Avatar m tn I have been prescribed seroquel "off-label" for sleep for a long time, but I dont like being on it because it really is powerful like being hit with a jackhammer and is hard to shake off the next day. It has a hangover effect. But it is the only thing that has worked for me with my sleep problems thus i have stayed on it. Also the side effects of weight gain and some other negative side effects are the reason I would love to get off of it.
Avatar m tn If this is the case, then it is in my opinion not a bad choice, though some would argue there are better(safer) options due to the risk factors involved with the class of drugs to which Seroquel belongs. There are a number of other(*safer*) drugs that are being prescribed for sleeping issues which includes antihistamines such as Atarax/ Hydroxyzine or Phenergan/Promethazine or small doses of tricyclic drugs like Doxepin/Sinequan, Mianserin/Tolvon and many more.
1305767 tn?1361192676 I do know it is sometimes prescribed for people with the above disorders who have trouble sleeping, as it knocks you out pretty effectively.

Avatar f tn I have been feeling pretty rotton for a few months. Really draged out, sleeping a lot some nights, even into the afternoon, but not sleeping other night. I've had a lot of sinus pressure and a cough off and on. Sometimes a get that weird feeling just before you get a colf or flu, not really an ache in the body, but almost like your skin is sensitive and... oh i dont know how to explain that feeling. I guess it is achy and jumpy.
653138 tn?1258572904 well, i believe the psychiatric problems came first- i am on effexor xr 300mg, wellbutrin 300mg, trazodone 300mg, and seroquel xr.400mg- changing for effexor VERY GRADUALLY to cymbalta- for the pain. i have always had anxiety that i feel mostly in my stomach, vomit alot when stressed- and then am constipated most of the other time- the doctor thinks it is IBS, the pcos i have had since my 20's (34 now).
Avatar m tn I am thinking about switching from Geodon to Seroquel. But I am scared the Seroquel will give me tremors, because I am welder and I have to have really steady hands. if Seroquel causes me to have tremors will they go away after I stop taking it?
980052 tn?1262967079 Seroquel is a legit treatment for opiate w/d's -- but don't stay on them for more than you need them, and if you're taking them for a while, it's advisable to taper off them ... Go to the Seroquel website, and gather as much scientific information as you can -- knowledge is power, blah, blah, blah -- but anecdotal information is a bit dodgy, although in many cases useful. Be thakful you get sleep with it, but when it's time to taper, it's time to taper.
3178266 tn?1344536316 This is the medication I am most worried about taking during my pregnancy, I take 50mg of Seroquel CR per day. This is an antipsychotic/Antidepressant and is used in the treatment of most of my symptoms. It is a very important med that I take. It Treats symptoms of schizophrenia, unusual suspiciousness or emotionl withfrawal and causes depressed, anxious or tense feelings.
Avatar f tn Muscle relexants are not used for temporary movement disorders as extra pyramidal side effects (the official term for temporary movement disorders have a more complex cause than that you could discuss this with your psychiatrist as well). There are many options though as regards side effect pills that could treat this and as this may be one reason this could be happening best to discuss this with your psychiatrist and they could see if that's the cause and what to do from there.
Avatar f tn Avinza is a long acting morphine compaound...Avanza is a brand name for remeron//used for depression and also for anxiety/sleep..it enhances dopamine availability and can help some who have a deficiency in that area..it is similar to trazodone in ways//anothe sleep dpression like drug/and yohimbee which is not a rx drug but is also a dopamine enhancer..after u r on it for a while, the sedative effect lessens...so ur dr is either rx-ing it to u for depression, anxiety/and or sleep....
1564517 tn?1314346323 I used to be a nightowl, but treated my sleep disorders and began working on turning my schedule around. On my way to bed now, and this is now late for me. The reward of not sleeping my days away or always being in a fog made it worth it for me.
1021784 tn?1306363011 Is there anybody out there who tried or is taking Latuda for anxiety or anxiety disorders? If so, what dose are you taking, what side effects do you get, and any other information you wish to share about your treatment with Latuda.
Avatar m tn I feel a little like the odd man out writing this. I have taken seroquel for years (100mg.) for sleep and have no trouble at all. In fact I feel worse if I don't take it. After a couple of days I just don't sleep. I also take a 25mg. dose as needed to help with my panic attacks, and anxiety.
Avatar f tn s in the long run but the effect can be masked while it is occuring and should not be given for assistance with sleeping for this reason. Lunesta and Rozerem are known sleep aides that are safe and effective and can be taken every day especially Rozerem which is derived from Melatonin and helps regulate the sleep cycle.
Avatar m tn After my reply I looked up seroquel. I didn't recognize the brand name and assumed it was a "simple" sleeping pill, I see it is not. Still, I think a half dose is better than none. It would be better to telephone your doctor's office and tell them you are about out of the medication and need at least a minimum refill so you can make it to the appointment date on the 8th without running out of your necessary prescription.
Avatar m tn it is also prescribed for sleep disorders (at low doses) as they found it does not work for what it was initially intended for...i was prescribed it, but havent resorted to it yet and probably wont...but it is used for sleep and as a boost or addition to antidepressants for depression...for use at night only as it does induce sleep...(25mgs-100mgs) 600 mgs is what was prescribed when used for bipolar etc...doesnt work well for that, it now has other uses...
Avatar n tn I have been walking every morn and afternoon about 8.30am and 5 pm for at least 40 mins each time, go for morn walk and just want to sleep after go for afternoon walk and not as tired but by 9pm am falling asleep but as soon as i get in bed i can not sleep, iam trying to loose weight cause at moment iam only 165cm and weigh 125kg.
1349329 tn?1276985202 My Dr. has prescribed a low dose of Seroquel for me to help with sleep while I'm detoxing. I did an internet search for information and found a website that sells this Medication and you don't need a prescription. I'm going copy and past what it says about how to take it etc., Read everything it says, it is "Totally Crazy." Drug Name Seroquel (Quetiapine) Drug Uses Seroquel is masterpiece for treating schizophrenia or bipolar boisterousness.
Avatar m tn I actually got my primary physician to prescribe it to me for sleeping & my directions were as needed. I've ALWAYS had sleep problems. I could wake up at 7 am & not go to sleep that night til 4 am. & still wake up the same time again. Granted if I do that a couple days in a row it would catch up with me.
Avatar f tn Seroquel is an antipsychotic that is an effective mood stabilizer and FDA approved for that purpose as well. The short term side effects of concern are generally weight gain and sedation and short term movement disorders (which can be treated with a side effect pill). The long term side effects of concern are diabetes (which can be managed by regular blood tests and maintaining a proper diet) and long term movement disorders (which your psychiatrist can test for).
