Ribavirin rash

Common Questions and Answers about Ribavirin rash

Avatar f tn I take a 1000 mg a day and weigh 115 lbs and the riba hasn't caused any serious side effects. I'm not anemic, no rash, no mouth sores, but my hair is falling out. LOL I do experience a lot of indigestion after taking my pills. It doesn't matter what I take the pills with either, they just give me heartburn. Always take your pills with food, preferably a higher fat food. I take nexium 3 x week and it helps with the indigestion. Good Luck and take your pills!!!!
476246 tn?1418874514 I know I'm posting terribly much today, but my brain is hyperactive and quite clear today, so I'm trying to use it while it lasts. Dosage Ribavirin 1000mg Considering that I have read that the sx of Riba can be agitating and might make it difficult for you to sleep, would it make sense to take it. Deb_c430 mentions on another thread, if I may quote, that if she takes her riba to late it does cause more agitation and sleeplessness.
Avatar m tn Hi All, My treatment is in month 4 and the rash from the Ribavirin is giving me a run for my money. The itching and bumps have really started popping up all over. The Dr. has been very vague on what, if anything I can do. This is as bad or worse than poison ivy ever was. Has anyone had to deal with this side effect and are there any solutions.
Avatar f tn I'm in the Telaprevir trial in week 13, so I finished the Telaprevir (or placebo) this past Wednesday. A day or two before that my scalp started itching. Yesterday it spread to the point that I had the itchies on almost half my body. Then I noticed tiny bumps where it itched worst. I took Benadryl, which didn't make it totally go away but brought it under control. It's better today but not gone. Just took another Benadryl.
Avatar f tn Am I the only one on here taking 1,200 mgs of ribavirin, who is going thru Triple Tx? I keep noticing people mentioning lower dosages. I have heard of smaller people taking less, and I am 5'9'', 160 pounds, but I think my Doctor is prescribing this same amount for most of the people in my home group, that I've talked to.
Avatar f tn Don't have all the numbers but viral load was 23,000,000 and biopsy showed inflammation and bridging fibrosis, (stage 3?). I'm on week 7 out of first 12, pegasys/1000 ribavirin. Doc won't do comprehensive tests to see if working until week 12, then if responding will do 48 weeks. Blood work showed slight anemia this week, he wants me to cut ribavirin to 600. He did say after checking numbers next week we may look into rescue drugs for the anemia.
Avatar f tn My physician's assistant called yesterday and said I am anemic and to take a shot of procrit. Also to reduce to 400mg/day ribavirin instead of my 800mg. I am in week 15 and have been UND at week three on triple therapy with incivek. Genotype 1a. Weigh 140 lbs. I was on 1000mg for 6 weeks and for the remainder of the time have been on 800mg. Yesterday I started on 400 mg and am worried about relapse. What is the role of ribavirin and just how important is it to SVR? I am on course for 24 wk.
Avatar f tn This was shown in a retrospective analysis of a large, randomized, placebo-controlled trial in which patients who achieved RVR had an SVR rate of approximately 90% regardless of whether they received peginterferon alfa and ribavirin, standard interferon and ribavirin, or peginterferon alfa monotherapy. In addition, the likelihood of SVR patients with genotype 1 infection who achieve an RVR does not appear to be affected by shortening the duration or reducing the dose of ribavirin.
Avatar n tn I've had my ribavirin reduced to 200 mg a day and will do my 18th peg shot on Friday. The ribavirin was reduced due to my rash. Unfortunately the rash is everywhere again. I have atarax, doxepin and clobitisol. These give minimal relief. Now my hair is just falling out like crazy. To be honest i think i could deal with all of this except the hair thing. Haven't checked with my doctor yet I thought I would check with the forum first but can I continue the peg without the RIBA?
Avatar m tn I went to see my prescribing APRN and she saw the rash and had me stop the Ribavirin but continue Sovaldi. The next day, I was unable to get out of bed due to the severe appearance of lymphedema in the same leg where the rash appeared. I am now waiting for the ambulance to take me to the ER on advice of my APRN. I am unable to put my feet onto the floor because of the intensity of the pain in both legs. I tried, but I screamed so loudly, I didn't want the neighbors to call the police.
1225178 tn?1318984204 Is this the beginning of the rash I've been reading about? God! I hope not... couldn't imagine having this in a large area. Anybody have any experience with this?
Avatar m tn My doctor reduced my ribavirin dosage on 2/17/10 from 1200 to 600 and prescribed atarax (for the itching) because I was having severe rashes (still am) and he said if it got worse it could jeopardize my treatment . I have acute hepatitis c genotype 2 vl-52,000 I just took my 6th shot Friday. I was negative at 2 weeks and I am set for 24 weeks of treatment.
Avatar n tn I don't know why they are telling you to skip Ribavirin doses. You already had to reduce your Ribavirin dosage and you had to stop 5 days early on the Incivek. If it was me, I sure would not skip any Ribavirin doses. And I really do not understand why the treating team is telling you it is okay to skip some doses (wink, wink). The chances for cure are better if a person follows the recommended protocol/regimen/guidelines. Why take the chance. Hang in there. 11 weeks will go fast.
3093770 tn?1389742726 Good idea to take your first dose of ribavirin with Telaprevir. The extra fat grams will help with absorbency. Taking the second dose at 10 pm may cause you to experience insomnia as that is a known side effect from ribavirin. It is not necessary to take ribavirin at the same time or at a specific time as it is with Incivek due to ribavirin's long half life.
Avatar m tn I experienced some digestive upsets, insomnia and headaches, irritability, and a bit of a rash but most of my real discomfort was a result of extra hepatic manifestations due to HCV and cirrhosis. Most people feel irritable on the ribavirin but again the degree of 'riba rage' depends on the individual. My Dr. told me that almost all the people in my study complained of some side effects but that overall (nationwide) the reports were that sx were minimal.
Avatar m tn Yes, I agree that in the study you get better than average care. They are going to send us to the dermatoligist if we get a rash....they want to bx it. I was also told that they manage side effects....I asked about depression and nausea meds and they said that they treat if it happens.
Avatar m tn I am sorry you are having such a bad time with the rash. Your rash may not have been due to the Incivek. It may be a rash from the Ribavirin. I know the sun worked for Mark but, for most of us, the sun makes our rashes much, much worse. My advice would be to get on top of the rash immediately. It can snowball out of control rapidly. If I were you I would make an urgent appointment with a dermatologist and have the derm doc evaluate and prescribe the meds.
Avatar m tn I stocked up on Medicated Gold Bond -- it helps with the ribavirin itching (probably not the Incevik rash) and Tylenol - the pain med of choice with liver disease. I still need to get some Nioxin - shampoo for hair loss. My scalp has been itching quite a bit so I think those folicles may be releasing some hari pretty soon (darm). I will be thinking about you Friday. Hope it goes smooth -- which interferon are you using - PegIntron or Pegasys?
Avatar m tn perhaps it will be useful eric Helper T cell cytokine response to ribavirin priming before combined treatment with interferon alpha and ribavirin for patients with chronic hepatitis C Norihiro Furusyoa, b, , , Norihiko Kubob, Kazuhiro Toyodab, Hiroaki Takeokab, Shigeki Nabeshimaa, Masayuki Murataa, Makoto Nakamutac and Jun Hayashia, b aDepartment of General Medicine, Kyushu University Hospital, Higashi-Ku, Fukuoka 812-8582, Japan bDepartment of Environmental Medicine and Infectious Diseases,
Avatar m tn http://www.incivek.com/hcp/assess-and-manage-rash Ribavirin rash: http://hepatitiscnewdrugs.blogspot.com/2010/10/skin-rash-during-chronic-hepatitis-c.html My treating team was very, very, very slow to do anything about the rash until I insisted. They caused me a great deal of misery while they were twiddling their thumbs doing nothing. Once I got on prescription treatment I felt so much better. (The over the counters were useless for me.
427265 tn?1444080036 said the worst sx they've dealt with from the amped Riba is the rash...and the ONLY time they have dropped a dose for a week...otherwise it's pretty much NO reductions. Can-do-man: yes, I will have weekly bloodwork for monitoring. I do worry about tanking early on before I even have a chance to RVR, but am willing to give it my best shot as long as it doesn't take me out with it. But I really need to believe in it to do this, hence my quandry about the high dosage.
1838299 tn?1403496143 Is anyone on or finshed tx with Sovaldi + ribavirin + interferon for 12 weeks? I am curious about how many people are still treating with interferon cause i will be starting it in October. Plus, how were the side effects and did any SRV? I am tx naive. .
Avatar f tn I developed severe mouth sores in week 9. Had to get a Rx from the doc to calm this down. I still have periodic mouth sores but seem to be keeping it in check with Biotene toothpaste and mouthwash. I had the typical injection site rash up until week 11, then the/a rash spread to my back, shoulders, arms and legs. I am now in week 20 of tx. The itching was terrible and no OTC stuff worked. I tried it all, and then some...Witch Hazel rubs, oatmeal baths, olive oil.
Avatar f tn I have had a terrible rash on my neck and chest. Could never fall asleep last night the pain was so intense. Sharp, shooting, searing pain. Called the office this morning and they made an appt. to look at this rash tomorrow afternoon. I asked her if she could order an analgesic script for me until then and she said no, because the incivek rash does'nt have pain associated with it. She said it may be shingles because this tx lowers the resistance.
3172665 tn?1344192835 Calydryl clear and vaseline total moisture is what I used..it did ok ...nothing great. My rash subsided when my ribavirin dose was reduced for the 3rd time. We reduced my dosage due to severe anemia..not the rash. So far...so good..I have the big 24 week test coming up. I live in Az and am 21 wks done with the incivek tx. It is not an easy road...but I was "UND" at 4 and 12 weeks and that kept me going. I'm still feeling pretty rough on the pegasys at week 21..but again...
Avatar n tn Just wanted to tell everyone on tx that ribavirin has more bioavailability (is better absorbed) when taken with a high-fat meal. My doctor neglected to tell me this. In fact, this is only mentioned in passing in the product information literature. This is mysterious considering how much emphasis is put on maintaining/maximizing ribavirin dose during tx.
5431819 tn?1367943946 Just started the treatment with 1 pill of Sovaldi a day and 1200 mg of Ribavirin each day, for Gino type 3, 24 week treatment. So far no side effects, felt kind of stoned for a few hrs at first, but now (day 3) I don't feel too much different :), my advise if someone else is starting this, drink lots of water, works for me...
493068 tn?1224768915 I completed the 48 weeksof Peg Interferon and Ribavirin Feb 2006 and have never been the same. I cleared the virus so far and feel very positive about this. I have never felt this sick and weak before the treatment. I have memory problems,weakness-fatigue, muscle and joint pain, headaches, severe facial and ocular Rosacea, depression panic attacks. I was very active before treatment going to yoga and work.
