Avatar m tn I went to see my prescribing APRN and she saw the rash and had me stop the Ribavirin but continue Sovaldi. The next day, I was unable to get out of bed due to the severe appearance of lymphedema in the same leg where the rash appeared. I am now waiting for the ambulance to take me to the ER on advice of my APRN. I am unable to put my feet onto the floor because of the intensity of the pain in both legs. I tried, but I screamed so loudly, I didn't want the neighbors to call the police.
173930 tn?1196341998 The only way I would allow myself to be used as a VX poster child is if they would also include a picture of me with my rash at its peak alongside it.
Avatar n tn I got the incivek because I never got a rash from ribavirin during previous tx, but lucky me, after being sensitized by the incivek rash during this tx I did indeed get the ribavirin rash once the incivek was completed.

Be sure to have dermatologist who can treat, it will keep you out of the hospital. I had the rash over 90% of my body.
1995824 tn?1330382649 I have posted new pictures of my rash this week - at least, have posted the pictures that were modest in their presentation. They are on my photo page here - http://www.medhelp.org/user_photos/list/1995824 . I am in constant agony when I am awake. Nothing has helped. Not the clobetosol, not the Atarax, OTC meds... nothing. My entire body is burning and itching. The only place the rash has not traveled to at this poing is my face and my feet.
4226456 tn?1354123528 Hi, From looking at your other posts, it appears that you are on triple tx with Incivek. Both Ribavirin and Incivek can cause a rash. When my husband was on triple tx with Incivek, he had a moderately severe rash. It had raised welts, it was itchy, and it was hot. His skin was quite red in the rashy area.
1995824 tn?1330382649 The look on HIS face when he looked at how much more my rash had progressed since he saw it two weeks ago was enough to make ME burst into tears. The first words out of his mouth, after acknowledging that the rash is now over 90% of my body, including my scalp, were that he wanted to give me a steroid shot. he did say that this has not developed into SJS or TENS.
2065676 tn?1331426040 Seriously though, just stay on top of it. Show it to your doctor at every visit. TalKe pictures to document the changes. Moisturizer your skin constantly. Cool, quick showers. (oh how I long for a soak in the tub). Stock up on eucerin body wash and lotion. Gold bond seems to work well for lots of people as well as Aveeno oatmeal baths to Sooth the skin..
Avatar n tn I have read several postings about people being treated and having severe itching and rash, but still continuing tx. My GI doc took me off because of itching and rash. I was so bummed! I know there are other things on the horizon, but I wonder if he is right. I was taken off tx in January 2006.
Avatar f tn The rash is similar in appearance and histology to that observed with peginterferon/ribavirin but can be more extensive or severe. Rash onset typically occurs within the first 4 weeks of telaprevir treatment, with a median time to onset of 25 days; however, it is important to recognize that rash can develop any time during telaprevir therapy.[1,2] In most cases the rash does not progress and it tends to resolve gradually over weeks after telaprevir is discontinued.
Avatar f tn I looked at looking forwards rash pictures yesterday and I knew my rash was worse...the doctor said not to continuing...they wanted to take pictures of my rash and send it to incivek...guess it was way bad...thanks for the 8 week study...
151263 tn?1243377877 Just to add a little, many of the skin disorders, especially immune-related conditions like psoriasis are caused/flared by the interferon not the ribavirin. That doesn't mean "riba"rash doesn't exist, but it does mean not every rash is caused by the riba. Of course, it's possible that the riba could cause skin condition "A" that may morph into psoriasis or something else that then gets aggravated by the peg, but his is just speculation on my part.

Typically, rash is seen within the first 4 weeks of therapy but can occur at any time during treatment.
1990276 tn?1328682015 , a generalized rash or rash with vesicles or bullae or ulcerations other than SJS) was reported in 4% of subjects who received INCIVEK combination treatment compared to less than 1% who received peginterferon alfa and ribavirin alone. The severe rash may have a prominent eczematous component. Patients with mild to moderate rashes should be followed for progression of rash or development of systemic symptoms.

4798753 tn?1359325903 I was on triple med treatment with Incivek, Interferon, Ribavirin. I had a bad rash and itching starting at about week 10. The over the counter dreams and antihistamines were useless, completely useless. They did nothing. Eventually, I got on precription medications that worked. I used: Fluocinonide ointment on my body. Clobetesol solution on my scalp. Hydrocort Valerate on my face. Oral Hydroxyzine 50 mg every 6 hours for the rash and itching. That combination worked for me.
Avatar m tn Thanks for the info.
149918 tn?1208132344 As I sit across from you looking at your rash, I have never seen riba or peg cause something like this, and I've been working with ribavirin since 1996. I do not believe the rash is being caused by ribavirin. This appears to be a systemic, classic allergic drug reaction" And (3) I was then referred to an experienced derm within the same major research hospital I am enrolled with.
Avatar m tn How people can compare one rash to another is beyond me unless they've seen or experienced both. I could post pictures of what my body looked like on SOC that would make even Mre wince :) And I'm not kidding and it wasn't for 12 weeks it was for the lion's share of FIFTY-FOUR WEEKS. Feet so bad at times with pustular psoriasis sores that I had to limp around. Let's all wait for the Barcelona data in another 4 weeks.
614034 tn?1304360040 I do get the interferon and ribavirin from Schering Plough for free but otherwise.... When I researched the rash I thought it was angular cheilitis from the pictures I found on the web, and it's common for people with autoimmune suppression to develop this, however as I said my DO didn't agree with me so I'm following her advice altho I'm also using nystatin swish and swallow, I take pulmicort for my asthma and it triggers thrush/fungal mouth problems too so I do feel a bit better.
Avatar f tn It is very frighting to see you skin and that rash. Go to Floridian 7 where she posts pictures of her rash. Mine was about the same. Not saying not to go to Dr, but not to panic like I did. Do go and get medicaion as as Idyllic said. A dermotologist can tell you if it is Stephens. My rash also was the worst at 9 weeks and I had to stop Incivek and was still UND at 12 weeks. Keep checking back here as these people have all survived this tx and are familliar with symptons.
Avatar n tn Regarding the change in ribavirin -- as NY Girl suggests, it's probably not the change from Copegus to generic Ribavirin and the appearance of the rash probably coincidental. Still, if your insurance allows, why not see if you can switch back to Copegus, when you had no problems. All the best luck.
1711722 tn?1356491154 Hep C, Gen 1, started treatment with 4 week lead in of Interferon and Ribavirin on 9-1-2011; 4 week labs -- 329,000, down from 10,700,000; added Victrelis 10-1-2011. This is a continuation from my "Side Effects, Day by Day" entry. This entry will chronical side effects now that Victrelis has been added to the fight.
1765684 tn?1333822768 Your rash looks exactly like the one I currently have from the ribavirin/interferon. I'm 24 weeks into a 48 week plan, triple tx with Incivek. I've seen other posts that would indicate that the rash can continue for some time after tx, and while 12 weeks is a long time to still be getting new outbreaks, it may be that your pre-existing conditions cause it to take longer to settle down again. A dermatologist is definitely in order.
212705 tn?1221624250 The Ribavirin can make you feel depressed, angry and/or vunerable. The men get riba rage. The women get weepy. If you are so tired you might need Procrit. Are you getting your CBCs done every other week? If your hemoglobin is less than 12 you need Procrit. Be sure you keep copies of all your labs. Best wishes to you. Hope you feel better soon.
Avatar m tn The rash experiential database can also include images and descriptions of what the rash onset looks like to help doctors identify it(although they took no pictures of mine), and what corrective treatment/medication protocols are appropriate in the event things take a turn for the worse (like taking x amount fo prednisone for x amount of time, including provisions for solumedrol etc etc).

223152 tn?1346981971 For those of you who don't know, I have been keeping a spreadsheet since the summer when the protease inhibitors hit the market. You can view them by clicking on my profile and viewing the pictures. For the most part this spreadsheet is people doing triple therapy, therefore all genotype 1s. However if you are in a trial or a different genotype I post that information too.
