Ribavirin rash treatment

Common Questions and Answers about Ribavirin rash treatment

Avatar f tn What they don't tell you is that while the sx of interferon tend to leave quickly...a mo or so after treatment ends, the sx of ribavirin stay with you for at least six mos., although substantially decreased, and it may cause michtochondrial changes in your blood cells.....
476246 tn?1418874514 I know I'm posting terribly much today, but my brain is hyperactive and quite clear today, so I'm trying to use it while it lasts. Dosage Ribavirin 1000mg Considering that I have read that the sx of Riba can be agitating and might make it difficult for you to sleep, would it make sense to take it. Deb_c430 mentions on another thread, if I may quote, that if she takes her riba to late it does cause more agitation and sleeplessness.
Avatar f tn I finished the telepravir part of the study on April 1st. My rash did not start until the 11th week of treatment. I had a horrible rash where I wanted to rip my skin off scratching. My doctor said that I could take Benadryl, which 50mg and cold packs, along with Ativan took the edge off. The cortosone creams were not really helpful or Aveeno Oatmeal baths. I am still covered in red bumps all over my arms, legs, back, and stomach. It does seem to be getting better.
Avatar m tn Hi All, My treatment is in month 4 and the rash from the Ribavirin is giving me a run for my money. The itching and bumps have really started popping up all over. The Dr. has been very vague on what, if anything I can do. This is as bad or worse than poison ivy ever was. Has anyone had to deal with this side effect and are there any solutions.
5431819 tn?1367943946 Just started the treatment with 1 pill of Sovaldi a day and 1200 mg of Ribavirin each day, for Gino type 3, 24 week treatment. So far no side effects, felt kind of stoned for a few hrs at first, but now (day 3) I don't feel too much different :), my advise if someone else is starting this, drink lots of water, works for me...
Avatar f tn com/hepatitis-c/hepatitis-c-topics/hcv-treatment/3583-easl-ribavirin-dose-reduction-and-epo-both-work-for-managing-anemia-in-patients- Reducing the dose of ribavirin and adding erythropoietin are both good options for managing anemia in hepatitis C patients treated with boceprevir (Victrelis) triple therapy, according to study findings presented at the 47th International Liver Congress (EASL 2012) this week in Barcelona.
Avatar f tn Now I'm 54, last physical showed higher liver functions than normal, suggested to see specialist. More tests, one biopsy later I'm on treatment. Don't have all the numbers but viral load was 23,000,000 and biopsy showed inflammation and bridging fibrosis, (stage 3?). I'm on week 7 out of first 12, pegasys/1000 ribavirin. Doc won't do comprehensive tests to see if working until week 12, then if responding will do 48 weeks.
Avatar f tn Am I the only one on here taking 1,200 mgs of ribavirin, who is going thru Triple Tx? I keep noticing people mentioning lower dosages. I have heard of smaller people taking less, and I am 5'9'', 160 pounds, but I think my Doctor is prescribing this same amount for most of the people in my home group, that I've talked to.

Avatar n tn I've had my ribavirin reduced to 200 mg a day and will do my 18th peg shot on Friday. The ribavirin was reduced due to my rash. Unfortunately the rash is everywhere again. I have atarax, doxepin and clobitisol. These give minimal relief. Now my hair is just falling out like crazy. To be honest i think i could deal with all of this except the hair thing. Haven't checked with my doctor yet I thought I would check with the forum first but can I continue the peg without the RIBA?
Avatar m tn I began a 12 week treatment of Sovaldi /Ribavirin treatment for HCV 20 days ago. On the 17th day I developed a rash on my lower left leg. by the 18th day, my body was covered over 85% with the itchy red rash. I called the Sovaldi helpline and a nurse called me back. She said that they have not had any case reporting a rash on Sovaldi. I went to see my prescribing APRN and she saw the rash and had me stop the Ribavirin but continue Sovaldi.
Avatar f tn I am taking the triple Tx (Sovaldi, Pegasus, Ribavirin), I am on week 8 of 12, and it hasn't been bad for me other than some anemia and rash at the beginning. My doctor adjusted my Ribavirin dosage after 2 weeks and so the anemia and rash has gone away. My advise would be to try to get as healthy as possible before starting treatment, I worked out for 3 months (after I found out I had HepC) and lost 20 lbs, and really cleaned up my diet (which wasn't bad before).
Avatar f tn Has anyone be on the treatment that is a shot a day. My doctor is checking into it to see if it will help for me. I do not know the name of the drug by if you do and any other info on this please let me know.
1225178 tn?1318984204 Is this the beginning of the rash I've been reading about? God! I hope not... couldn't imagine having this in a large area. Anybody have any experience with this?
Avatar m tn A year and a half post transplant, a liver biopsy showed he already had advanced fibrosis/cirrhosis of the new liver. Two months later he started treatment (Sovaldi/Ribavirin for 24 weeks). By week 4, his VL was 250 -undetected by week 6. Since then his liver enzymes are in the normal range. The progression of the cirrhosis has been slowed if not stopped. He has 3 weeks to go before completing treatment.
Avatar n tn I don't know why they are telling you to skip Ribavirin doses. You already had to reduce your Ribavirin dosage and you had to stop 5 days early on the Incivek. If it was me, I sure would not skip any Ribavirin doses. And I really do not understand why the treating team is telling you it is okay to skip some doses (wink, wink). The chances for cure are better if a person follows the recommended protocol/regimen/guidelines. Why take the chance. Hang in there. 11 weeks will go fast.
Avatar f tn The Ribavirin can make a person quite short-tempered (make a contract with yourselves that you won't divorce before the treatment is done!)...If he starts getting the itchies from the ribavirin, (some of us get a wonderful rash!) have him take a benedryl at bedtime, and loratadine for the day...also, Aveeno after bath oil...Cortisone cream doesn't seem to work very well...Have him be VERY careful driving for the first few weeks, until he knows how the medication will effect him...
Avatar m tn http://www.incivek.com/hcp/assess-and-manage-rash Ribavirin rash: http://hepatitiscnewdrugs.blogspot.com/2010/10/skin-rash-during-chronic-hepatitis-c.html My treating team was very, very, very slow to do anything about the rash until I insisted. They caused me a great deal of misery while they were twiddling their thumbs doing nothing. Once I got on prescription treatment I felt so much better. (The over the counters were useless for me.
Avatar m tn My doctor reduced my ribavirin dosage on 2/17/10 from 1200 to 600 and prescribed atarax (for the itching) because I was having severe rashes (still am) and he said if it got worse it could jeopardize my treatment . I have acute hepatitis c genotype 2 vl-52,000 I just took my 6th shot Friday. I was negative at 2 weeks and I am set for 24 weeks of treatment.

Avatar m tn perhaps it will be useful eric Helper T cell cytokine response to ribavirin priming before combined treatment with interferon alpha and ribavirin for patients with chronic hepatitis C Norihiro Furusyoa, b, , , Norihiko Kubob, Kazuhiro Toyodab, Hiroaki Takeokab, Shigeki Nabeshimaa, Masayuki Murataa, Makoto Nakamutac and Jun Hayashia, b aDepartment of General Medicine, Kyushu University Hospital, Higashi-Ku, Fukuoka 812-8582, Japan bDepartment of Environmental Medicine and Infectious Diseases,
Avatar m tn If one is to be diagnosed with HCV then genotype 2 is actually the best type to have contracted as it has the highest cure rate of all the types The therapy consists of the combination treatment of Interferon /Ribavirin and usually is for a duration of 24 weeks with an efficay rate of approx.80% Ultrasound will not give a good indication of how much liver damage ( fibrosis) you have or neither will your enzyme levels.
Avatar f tn I am on week six of treatment, 180 mg Pegasys and 1000 Ribba, I have little sx(fatigue, nausau), but I do not experience rash yet. I want to know how far into the treatment people experience rash. Does anyone experience no rash at all? Thanks for any response.
427265 tn?1444080036 Among those who completed treatment, subjects in the double-dose arm had a higher end-of-treatment response rate (45% vs 20%) and SVR rate (40% vs 18%) compared with subjects receiving standard therapy. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The idea is appealing. Get an RVR before the RBV starts to kick your hiney. Get a good heating pad.
Avatar m tn Wow, I am treatment naive, and study naive, I better recheck the one I was looking into! c.
Avatar m tn I am sorry you are having such a bad time with the rash. Your rash may not have been due to the Incivek. It may be a rash from the Ribavirin. I know the sun worked for Mark but, for most of us, the sun makes our rashes much, much worse. My advice would be to get on top of the rash immediately. It can snowball out of control rapidly. If I were you I would make an urgent appointment with a dermatologist and have the derm doc evaluate and prescribe the meds.
Avatar m tn I stocked up on Medicated Gold Bond -- it helps with the ribavirin itching (probably not the Incevik rash) and Tylenol - the pain med of choice with liver disease. I still need to get some Nioxin - shampoo for hair loss. My scalp has been itching quite a bit so I think those folicles may be releasing some hari pretty soon (darm). I will be thinking about you Friday. Hope it goes smooth -- which interferon are you using - PegIntron or Pegasys?
3202871 tn?1352133377 by week 12, with the help of prednisone, my skin looked much better. the rash started the first week of treatment, and now at week 47, i am still experiencing mild itching and small patches of rash. Now, i control the itch with hydroxyzine and the small skin eruptions with clobetasol. The first 11 weeks were the worst. i posted some photos of the rash on my home page. it does get better.
4043517 tn?1374010173 At 8pm 2/16/14 I started my quest to kill this insidious virus that has been running free since 1974-75 busily turning my health blood infused liver into a solid chunk of overdried pemmican where blood flow is suppressed and fibrous bridges and walls impede the journey of cleansing toxins from my body.
Avatar f tn I have had a terrible rash on my neck and chest. Could never fall asleep last night the pain was so intense. Sharp, shooting, searing pain. Called the office this morning and they made an appt. to look at this rash tomorrow afternoon. I asked her if she could order an analgesic script for me until then and she said no, because the incivek rash does'nt have pain associated with it. She said it may be shingles because this tx lowers the resistance.
