Ribavirin chemistry

Common Questions and Answers about Ribavirin chemistry

476246 tn?1418874514 I know I'm posting terribly much today, but my brain is hyperactive and quite clear today, so I'm trying to use it while it lasts. Dosage Ribavirin 1000mg Considering that I have read that the sx of Riba can be agitating and might make it difficult for you to sleep, would it make sense to take it. Deb_c430 mentions on another thread, if I may quote, that if she takes her riba to late it does cause more agitation and sleeplessness.
26471 tn?1211940121 My organic chemistry is pretty rusty, but if PKR can be upregulated, what about adding additional phosphate groups? Well, maybe not, but this info holds a lot of promise. I'm multiple tx 1b, always looking for a new way out.
135456 tn?1301441224 Have you had previous experience with 1600 mg/day of ribavirin? If not, you might start sooner and titer up more gradually to make sure that you can handle the dose. Keep in mind that it can take 1-3 weeks for a change in ribavirin dose to be reflected in your hemoglobin. Also, and again based on your previous treatment experience, consider Procrit (epo) coincidental with the riba pre-dosing for same reasons.
233616 tn?1312790796 In comparison with corresponding plasma values of ribavirin following a high-purine meal, Cmax, AUC0-144 and AUC0-∞ of ribavirin following a low-purine meal were 136% (90% confidence internal [CI]: 120%-155%), 134% (90% CI: 118%-153%), and 139% (90% CI: 120%-159%), respectively. This study indicates that dietary purines have an effect on ribavirin absorption. Dosage regimens of ribavirin might need to be adjusted according to the purine content of the meal.
Avatar m tn 16 Ribavirin The synthetic purine nucleoside Ribavirin rapidly enters eukaryotic cells and after intracellular phosphorylation exhibits virustatic activity against a broad spectrum of DNA and RNA viruses.25 Several studies have been conducted to evaluate ribavirin monotherapy in daily doses of 600-1,200 mg in the treatment of chronic hepatitis C.26-28 While all trials consistently showed a decrease in aminotransferase levels, no virologic end-of-treatment responses were observed.
969557 tn?1314374214 If I don't I will have to move, something I'm not to keen about, but I think my chances are pretty good. I am studying chemistry, so I am really glad (once again) that my tx soon is over. Being a student during treatment isn't that easy, even though I have made it just a few points short... My tics are really bothering me right now. Got the muscles injected with botox a week ago, but it hasn't worked yet. Other than that I am really doing fabulous atm.
Avatar m tn I had what I found to be very unpleasant psychophysical reactions to both Interferon and Ribavirin though. Even nearly two months after stopping, I don't feel like I have completely settled back into being my old self yet. After a longer treatment it makes sense that you might need more recuperation time. Are you getting advice from a clinical psychologist or a psychiatrist at all?
Avatar f tn For null responders treated for 12 weeks, the SVR12 response rate was 88.9% with ABT-450/r, ABT-267, and ribavirin and 93.3% with all 3 DAAs plus ribavirin. Null responders have historically been resistant to retreatment, with only about 30% responding to peg-interferon and ribavirin. Treatment-naive patients with HCV GT1a treated for 12 weeks responded only slightly less well (82% - 98%) than the GT1b-infected patients (100% SVR12 regardless of drug combination).
Avatar f tn Treatment Naive: 90% Treatment Naive, Genotype 1: 93% Previous Non Responders: 47% Advocate1955 “EASL-Abbott Presents Positive Results from Interferon-Free Phase 2 "Co-Pilot" Study for the Treatment of Hepatitis C-ABT-450/r, plus ABT-333 and ribavirin” Thursday, April 19, 2012 Abbott Laboratories : Abbott Presents Positive Results from Interferon-Free Phase 2 "Co-Pilot" Study for the Treatment of Hepatitis C 04/19/2012 Abbott Park, Illinois (NYSE: ABT) and Watertow
135456 tn?1301441224 A little too much too soon for my individual chemistry as apparently I'm very sensitive to ribavirin. Yes, most doctors here subscribe to the principle that riba is most important early on, but the Sweedish researchers moved in a different direction and they have quite a lot of experience with ribavirin. It must be noted that they also had the advantage of HPLC testing for serum riba levels and were ready to jump in with both Procrit and transfusion when necessary.
Avatar m tn Katla, if that were possible wouldn't Gilead or Bristol have been able to "duplicate" each others drugs already. Bristol tried to "duplicate" 7977 with BMS-094 and that resulted in death and permanent heart and kidney problems with at least 11 people in the trials. Gilead is "attempting" to "duplicate" daclatasvir with their GS-5885, but the combination has to be partnered with ribavirin and/or interferon to get even a small percentage of SVRs.

Avatar f tn In some studies you get a placebo, interferon, and ribavirin which is only 50% effective for curing genotype 1.
1893294 tn?1321220750 Some of us are on Sovaldi and Ribavirin and some of us are on Sovaldi w/Interferon and Ribavirin and no Olyssio. Depending on the overall condition of your health prior to treatment, what grade of damage to your liver you have, your weight, your age, how many times you've done treatment or if this is your first treatment..., all of these factors can come into play and affect how one feels. For example, I have asthma, Irrit.Bowel syndrome, osteopenia/low VIt.
968560 tn?1307455098 I successfully completed a 48 week interferon/ribavirin treatment for hepatitis c. The reason I went to my doctor in the first place was the terrible chronic fatigue and flu like symptoms. After being diagnosed with hep-c and going thru the year of treatment, the body aches and fatigue continues. Sleep doesn't refresh me and i cant really do normal activities without becoming exausted. I have seen a cardiologist who checked my heart (heart O.K.) I was sent to a pulmonary M.D.
Avatar m tn Third week I double-dosed again. On day 22 I ended up in the ER. Hgb only 11.9 but I could hardly walk. I stopped ribavirin completely for about a week. Then I returned to normal (180 Peg and 1200mg/day) dosing. In any event, here are my 4-week labs as well as pre-treatment. Keep in mind I was probably off ribavirin at the times these labs were taken.
Avatar f tn Sometimes if your Hmg goes extremely low, then cam give you a blood transfusion, or a rescue drug to raise your #s. What I've noticed lately when the #s go low, they reduce your Ribavirin. Alot of people sail thru, and with a 12 week protocol it typically doesn't happen until your near the end of treating, and then they do the watch and see approach. Keep in mind that men have a higher Hmg by nature, so you can't really compare your levels as a female to theirs.
Avatar f tn I had Hepatitis C for 37 years (Genotype 1) and treated for 48 weeks in 2011-2012 with Interferon, Ribavirin, and Incivek. I am now considered cured. I cannot infect anyone and my liver is not being damaged from it. I am NOT infected any longer. I know you have Genotype 3, but cure of Genotype 3 is the same as cure for Genotype 1. If you are cured of Genotype 3, you will NOT be able to infect anyone with Hepatitis C and you will stop having liver damage from the virus.
Avatar m tn But it was only through a genome-wide association study that the Duke team was able to show that these same variants were protective against anemia induced by ribavirin, one of two necessary drugs in hepatitis C treatment.
Avatar m tn Given your weight and lack of side effects, you might discuss with your medical team upping your ribavirin. Not sure, but I think you're borderline at 1400 for weight-base anyway and you might be able to tolerate even more, especially if your hemoglobin hasn't dropped too much from pre-treatment. We have some members here on as much as 1800/day. I think that would be Bill, but also flagged FlGuy as I think he's taking more than 1200/day but not sure.
Avatar f tn Although both studies consistently showed that food slowed the absorption of ribavirin, the extent to which food affected ribavirin bioavailability differed widely between the studies." That's right, one study showed that a high fat meal had no effect on bioavailability and the other one showed that it did.....if you ate 54 grams of fat.....as compared to people who ate nothing.
233616 tn?1312790796 However there is a whole generation who grew up with, and were medically trained to believe that tylenol could do no wrong, so I won’t debate the topic, I’ll simply mention that the research and current chemistry is converting more docs to a cautionary stance with every passing day. OK, enough of that, we aren’t here to debate Tylenol, we are here to understand how the liver deals with drugs. So, let’s begin. Here is my favorite P 450 Chart. http://medicine.iupui.edu/clinpharm/ddis/table.
104652 tn?1196603908 hi again.. my boyfriedn who is on interferon and ribavirin was recently picked up in his blood chemistry that his tryglycerides were thru the roof. the GI doc immediately put him on Tricor to lower it...because if it stays high that long (over 1000) it can lead to pancreatitis! he is due to have his first blood test since taking the tricor..and its one of those drugs not to use with liver disease but i guess it was the worse of two evils.. they had to lower his tryglycerides first and foremost.
745313 tn?1323145898 I don't think she knew much about treatment induced changes in blood chemistry. I was a clumper all though treatment but when I stopped treatment I stopped clumping.
Avatar m tn Hi Liverman If I remember my chemistry class correctly there was qualitative analysis as in quality or is there some of whatever you were looking for. Quantitative analysis is what is the exact quantity present. This test is also known as viral load test. So the less specific test qualitative or Qual did not detect the presence of the virus.
Avatar m tn Like you, after my previous treatment in 2009 everything improved quickly. My brain fog is about 90% of what it was on treatment. I attribute that to my blood chemistry still likely being below the normal range and the toxicity of the drugs still in my body. I'm still nauseous most days, but I finally weaned off of the Zofran/Odansetron. Have almost weaned off of the Gabapentin. Have you had a CBC since completing treatment?
Avatar n tn on what not to do with ibuprofun and food. I'm a genotype 1b been on peg and ribavirin for 23 weeks now. Typical side effects; brain fog, dry skin, hair loss, sleeplessnes. And yes I'm drinking all my water. Feeling better lately been able to excercise. Just got my blood test results and my blood work was all over the place. Since I've been on the treatment the only real elevated levels was my ALT which has been hovering around 60-80 and of course lower White Blood cell count.
524608 tn?1244421761 This is the only current Phase 3 trial of an investigational therapy for hepatitis C to enroll a difficult-to-treat patient population that includes patients who had a null response to a prior course of pegylated-interferon and ribavirin therapy. -- Data from ILLUMINATE are expected to supplement the data obtained in the two pivotal Phase 3 trials of telaprevir - ADVANCE and REALIZE -- as part of the planned New Drug Application (NDA) submission for telaprevir.
Avatar n tn The last time you did the treatment were you fully compliant with meds; did you take the ribavirin and interferon on time as scheduled? It might benefit you to increase ribavirin dosage if possible, dependent on blood values. In short, something should probably change in regards to your medication to expect a different outcome the second treatment.
