1399363 tn?1462342610 When I had episodes of pulse spikes, I took metoprolol 50mg; while sometimes it seemed to work for me in as little as 30-45 minutes, last time I had to take it prior to my ablation it was taking over an hour to work, around 1 hour 15 minutes. I know, it's torture waiting for it to work; give it time and if it's too long perhaps talk to your doctor about it. I hope you feel better soon!
Avatar n tn As with Mom, I'm a bit confused -- you also don't say if you're tapering slowly off the Lexapro to avoid withdrawals. You don't want to be on both Lexapro and Paxil unless, as some psychiatrists do, you're switching at the very end of the taper and therefore almost off the Lexapro.
Avatar f tn I wouldn't say it's common for that to happen, no. How high above 100 is it going? I get resting HRs in the low 100s on a fairly regular basis, and I've found peer reviewed journal articles stating that inappropriate sinus tachycardia and POTS are so difficult to differentiate sometimes because POTS patients sometimes do get bouts of resting tachycardia, but I think generally we're talking about mild tachycardia.
4155003 tn?1351614311 ive bin on propranolol for about 12weeks & weaned myself down to 10ml every other day, i took 10ml propranolol 52hours ago & not going to take another one as im ready to stop. when will it be fully out my system?
Avatar f tn Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) associated with propranolol therapy are similar to other lipophilic beta blockersBeta blockers, including propranolol, have an additive effect with other drugs which decrease blood pressure, or which decrease cardiac contractility or conductivity. So the short story is that"yes"it probably is the beta blocker. But saying that see how you get on with them,it will take at least one- two weeks to really settle down.
Avatar f tn And has anyone else had problems with the propranolol not working as well as it did when you first started to take it? Does anyone else have fits of crying, depression and severe anxiety? Or is it just me?
Avatar f tn "How they [beta-blockers] can cause depression: While scientists don't know exactly how beta-blockers cause depression, the three most commonly adverse effects reported with their use are fatigue, sexual dysfunction and depression." From AARP http://tinyurl.com/cyxbdun Another site said that because propranolol was often given along with beta-blockers it's gotta be the propranolol. LOL http://www.currentpsychiatry.com/index.php?
Avatar n tn what is GAD? the doctor prescribed propranolol but i dont know how it will work or how i will react to this pill.
Avatar f tn Let me add, drugs have a lot of things in them that isn't the drug -- fillers and binders and the coloring agents used can be the problem as well. That's another reason it's just very difficult to tell what's causing the problem. The way, for example, nutritionists often treat food allergies is to eliminate almost all the food you eat to a bare minimum and then start adding foods back one at a time to see if that's what you're allergic to.
Avatar m tn I tried going this route and my experience was that I built resistance to the med. My body kept finding ways to work around it. The only thing that really worked for me was cognitive behavior therapy. Meds are great for a crisis situation, say perhaps to get you through one or two weeks. Beyond that, you can't rely on the meds. Longer term, an SNRI worked really well for me. SSRI did not work well, for me.
4155003 tn?1351614311 is it ok to drink while on propranolol? ive drank a few times on it but took my tablet like early in the morning & started drinking at like 9 of the night.
Avatar n tn If you will get a prescription for an O2 tank, and use it for 15 minutes at a time. You might be surprised how it will work. I take Propanolol 240 ER for my migraines, but they are regular ones.
Avatar f tn 4 days ago pcp changed my beta blocker from propranolol 40mg twice daily to metprolol er 25mg daily d/t low pulse in 40s- 50s. Been on propranolol for 22yrs for PVCS. She had me just stop propranolol and start metoprolol, been experiencing shakiness, occassional pvcs, headache, nausea, pulse still 45 - low 60s at rest and with exertion 70-90. Should she have tapered propranolol or will the metoprolol block the more serious withdrawal symptoms ie: HTN, chest pain ect.
Avatar f tn Hello my name is April and I have recently been diagnosed with PVC and was prescribed metoprolol I wanted to know if anyone has taken this for there PVC and if so did it work?
Avatar f tn My husband called an ambulance and they took me to the hospital. By the time I got there I started to feel better and my heart rhythm was better but I felt terrible. The PVc"s didnt show on the ekg so the ER doc had me stand up and pace and I was having 4 or 5 of them every 10 - 15 seconds. Of course all blood work came back ok and I didnt have a heart attack but they said that when I just casually walk my heart rate is to high so they put me on Propranolol.
1243620 tn?1274790697 Of course everyone is different so some people may require higher doses to combat the symptoms, but if anxiety is affecting your daily life I highly recommend speaking to your doctor about giving propranolol a try. They give you the confidence to get on with life and stop avoiding certain situations.
Avatar f tn I had been taking the propranolol in the morning, but have read that the best time to take it is in the nighttime. Does anyone know what would be the best time morning or nighttime? Thank you.
Avatar f tn I’ve been taking propranolol 10 mg (increased it from 5 to 10 2 weeks ago) for just under a month. I take this twice a day for PVCs. With my evening dose I take olanzapine 2.5mg. In the past few days I get to feeling quite strange, dizzy and tingling in my hands and bottoms of my feet. I find that exercise, bicycling, helps.
1504778 tn?1321394645 i have a condition similiar but mine palpotates when my heart is over woi entrked i have an extra nerve on it ,they put me on propranolol for what i had i didnt have palpotations but the pill made me real tired and slugish so i got off it ,if your not feeling that give it a little time to work if it stops the palps and not feeling exhausted every day you should be good ,if you have no change call him after a few days i went through like three different meds before they got it right hope that h
Avatar f tn It sounds like what happens to me when I take a new med. I try not to think about it but the longer it's in my system the more paniced I get. It sounds to me like you had a panic attack. Every time I have a panic attack my heart rate goes up into the 160's to 170's. I get the sweaty palms, Urgency to use the bathroom. All of your symptoms plus more. So in my opinion it was panic you had.
Avatar n tn Within the last few months I have had a sudden on set of pretty bad stress and anxiety, most likely related to school and my work load. The first time I had a panic attack I had just finished smoking (medical marijuana) and was preparing for bed. Before I knew it there was this very loud ringing in my ears, so loud I couldn't hear over it. My heart was pounding incredibly hard. I was feeling cold even when I put a sweatshirt on. My chest was tight and I had uncontrollable shaking.
Avatar n tn Sertraline and other Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) inhibit a certain enzyme which usually metabolizes Propranolol. Due to this inhibition, Propranolol action may be enhanced. But it will not be appropriate to look at this isolated piece of information and ignore other evidences. We do have a lot of trials and reviews exploring the combination. There is no conclusive evidence which allows us to deem this combination unacceptable.
2102364 tn?1334181277 I am hoping things will get under control soon--luckily my symptoms are mild compared to last time. Last year I was out of work for 5 weeks since I could barely move with the rapid heart rate and with my job as a hospital nurse you are on the run constantly. Glad you found this site..it has helped me to cope with all the changes . It was helpful to me because people on this site have walked in my shoes and they were able to give me hope that things would get better.
