Propranolol graves disease

Common Questions and Answers about Propranolol graves disease

Avatar f tn The oculoplastic surgeon that I am seeing advised that I see an endocrinologist since I was having other symptoms of Graves Disease. I had been having symptoms for several months, (tachycardia, palpitations, increased sweating, irritability, tremors, brittle hair and nails, insomnia), but just brushed them off, and blamed them on other things. The endocrinologist ordered multiple tests including antibody studies. All of my tests came back negative.
Avatar f tn Not long after, I developed a right hand tremor and was prematurely diagnosed with Graves Disease. I have had many nights of sleeplessness (48 hours at a time), I've lost over 20 lbs in the past 6 weeks, I have diarrhea daily and now I have a difficult time staying awake during the day.

Avatar f tn Lupo good day to you, I hope you are still in the mood of answering my question.. It was confirmed that I have graves' disease and my doctor said that It is mild, my RAI uptake and scan: here's what it was said: FINDINGS: THE THYROID demonstrates slightly asymmetric increased of uptake within the right lobe of the thyroid but with overall homogeneous uptake throughout both lobes without focal nodular areas of uptake. The percent uptake at 3 hrs measured 44%.
Avatar n tn My daughter was diagnosed with Graves on June 4th. She is 6. Luckily, I'm a teacher and have been able to stay at home with her the past couple of months to get this under control. I feel like our lives have been turned upside down. We started out with a sore throat and a diagnosis from an ENT of Thyroiditis......We ended up seeing a pediatric endocrinologist in an emergency visit because of her heart rate. We've been on methimazole since.
Avatar f tn Dr. Lupo , is there anything that will help this disorder. I have Graves Disease , took RAI in Oct of 08 then a few months later my eyes began swelling and tearing. I have been told there is nothing that can be done. My Eye Doctor says it is a unpredictable disease and will see me again in two months. Is there anything I can do at home , other than tear drops and wait? My Blood work showed TSH at 0.0 and my Free T4 at 1.85 . I know this means I am still Hyper. What should normal levels be?
1576249 tn?1296090802 About a year ago I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism caused by graves disease(which causes metabolic problems, mood, anxiousness, insomnia, fast heart rate), in the last few months my thyroid is in remission so I was taken off anti-thyroid medications. Within the last month or so my depression has become unbearable but im still having maniac episodes, which can range from panic attacks to irrational behavior. Two weeks ago my family doctor said I am bipolar.
1494095 tn?1288788477 I have a couple of questions concerning Graves Disease and an enlarged thyroid. In the past I had an enlarged thyroid (not as large as it is this time), I also had a couple of nodules that were checked to see if they were hot or cold and were found to be cold. Recently my Graves has come out of remission which prompted my visit to my GP today. She (my general practioner) seemed more concern this time than she was when she had originally discovered the GD.
Avatar f tn Hi I have graves disease and in the last 2 months I have been losing mass amounts of hair. Why all the sudden am I losing my hair?
Avatar f tn I found out I have Graves Disease about three months ago, and it's REALLY bad, and I was prescribed Methimazole and Propranolol, but I'm very bad at taking them. I forget often. At the same time, I just started school which is an hour away from home. I am now nervous about being pregnant because a couple days ago, my boyfriend and I had sex without protection. I've heard rumors that you either cannot get pregnant while your "hyper" or you can get pregnant, but the baby may be harmed.
1668236 tn?1308160026 Hi everybody, I'm a 23 year old female who has recently been diagnosed with Grave's disease. I am starting Methimazole and Propranolol for treatment. I am curious to know if any of you have used these, and how effective were they at treating your symptoms? (My symptoms are: fatigue, tachycardia, palpitations, ^ systolic BP, shortness of breath, muscle twitches, eye twitches, heat intolerance, and restlessness.) Also, did starting Methimazole make you gain weight?
Avatar m tn I am a male of 18 years old with Graves' disease. It's really tough being a teen and losing my entire senior year to this. I never want to do anything and I feel terrible literally all the time. I was started on 30 mg of methimazole for moderately severe hyperthyroidism on December 24, when I entered the hospital with a heart rate of 170 bpm. I was on a beta blocker until March which was terrible, especially the withdrawal.
Avatar f tn I am a 53yr old woman and was diagnoised with Graves disease when I was 15. I would like to talk to you more about how this disease has affected you as you have begun aging. Please let me know what would work for you to answer some of my questions about your treatment and how you went about it.
Avatar f tn I have Graves disease and was put on Methimzole and Propranolol. The combination relieved my hyper symptoms and I was losing weight while on those meds. Eventually it tapered off. I have read thatbwhen you are Hyper you eat much more, I didn't find that to be true, I was so hyper, I could barely eat. I loss over 15 lbs. Once me levels lowered, they did keep me on the dosage ( it was 10 mg per day).
897578 tn?1241724871 Have you visited an eye doctor that specializes in Graves Disease? I am showing the beginning signs of Graves in my eyes. I also have Sjogren's Disease, which is an autoimmune disease. Our bodies are fighting ourselves, and keeping our immune systems up is definately an important step. I do get an odd feeling that comes over me, and I sweat horribly which can cause me to feel a bit anxious. Do you feel like that at times?
1494095 tn?1288788477 I recently posted that I was on propranolol 2x day for the heart palpitations associated with Graves Disease, I have been on the meds for 4 days (today is day # 4), not only has this not stopped the palpitations but they've INCREASED, and the discomfort i causes is getting much harder to bear. How long should it take before the propranolol begins working?
Avatar f tn I have been hyperthyroid/graves disease for over a year now, that I'm aware of, I lost approx 75 lbs within that year and in March I was hospitalized for tachycardia. Since my hospitalization I have been on Propanolol 2 80mg per day and methimizole 7 10 mg tablets/ day. Since beginning these medications, I have gained 35 lbs (March-May). When I mention my weight gain to the drs, they all say, "the medication will cause that".
Avatar n tn I know of no one that has had weight loss from this disease!!
Avatar f tn I also am taking 30 mg of propranolol a day. Does this happen when you have graves where you get better and then all the sudden it gets worse? Will it get better again?
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Graves Disease at the age of 13, almost 14, (back in 1985). I had the sweating, shaking, anxiety, etc.that you sometimes have. Graves and Hashimoto's are sort of different names for the same thing. Graves means you're hyper and Hashimoto's means you're hypo but they are both your immune system attacking your thyroid gland. My current diagnosis is Hashimoto's, and happily my thyroid seems to have given up the fight for the most part.
Avatar f tn Hi I have graves disease and have been hypo (tsh 10.??) for over 3 months now. I was taking 10 mg of methimazole and propranolol (10mg x2) My tf3 and tf4 were all within normal limits. The doc lowered my dose of methimazole to 5mg once at night. and I have been taking my propranolol 10mg in the morning and whenever i feel i need it. My question is I am still feeling tired and just blah. I go for my new labs soon. What happens if I am still hypo with only taking 5mg of methimazole.
Avatar f tn my mother is just diagnosed with graves dis in canada ,and on propranolol and methimazole from 3 she diagnosed very late and suffered from takosubo(left ventricular cardiomyopathy),fully recovered, now endocrinologist treating her.i have a question for her as she really don't feel to eat at all.just having little amount of ensure,icecream..and some juice..why is that?as in hyperthyroidism patient normally eats a lot..she lots weight too..
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Graves Disease in 2003 and opted for total thyroidectomy once they found cold nodules in my uptake scans. Biopsy revealed that I had papillary cancer in addition to Graves. RAI treatment went well and I was declared cancer free in 2008. I now have questions after 7 years regarding the Graves. Once the cancer was found all my doc talked about was the cancer, Graves was pushed to the side and we treated and talked about only the cancer.

I have lost the weight but it was extremely difficult to do(lost 100lbs.
770296 tn?1244389441 She gave me Carbimazole 40mg dly and propranolol 3x dly, also said I was extremely lucky I did not have thyroid storm as resting heart rate was 158 though I was shaking, sweating like a mad woman by the time she saw me.
Avatar m tn Hi! What you are describing I have heard before from people with Graves. I did have the stiff neck and shoulder, still do on and off, had some muscle twitching in my eye on and off too. The numbness and tingling can be a symptom too, I get this more when I am more hypo. I have been on anti thyroid meds 3 years, starting to wean off because of normal labs and a real low dose of 1.25. Your lab ranges are different form mine. You must be from another country.
Avatar f tn I wasn't sure if I should put this under pregnancy or thyroid disorders, but I guess I'll do both. I found out I have Graves Disease about three months ago, and it's REALLY bad, and I was prescribed Methimazole and Propranolol, but I'm very bad at taking them. I forget often. At the same time, I just started school which is an hour away from home. I am now nervous about being pregnant because a couple days ago, my boyfriend and I had sex without protection.
