Avatar f tn I had a thyroid storm in October 2016. It affected my eyes and heart rate, with palpitations, heat intolerance, being hot all the time. I was treated with methimazole and propranolol. I was advised by the eye specialist to have a thyroidectomy ASAP which I did mid December, but just checked my labs and found the TSI to be really high. What happens now? Do my eyes continue to get worse? Can it be helped? Do I go blind?
510002 tn?1214073197 I went through a thyroid storm in Oct 07 last year. It was HORRIBLE. I would highly recommend taking the ativan with your beta blocker. Be glad your dr. gave it to you. I was so stressed after and my heart was still going crazy that I had to take the anti-anxiety meds they gave me. Make sure you get tons of rest and relax as much as you can. To answer your question the ativan is an anti-anxiety drug and it will help you relax.
1413042 tn?1281770262 Last time my endo asked me to go off Propranolol. I am a bit worried about this. I think my situation was kept in check by this beta blocker. If I quit, I may get the same tachycardia and palpitations I had earlier. My earlier resting heart rate was 100+ with BP being around 140/90. The endo has asked for another blood test in 2 weeks time. So, should I discontinue Propranolol or take it for 2 more weeks? Or try to wean off? Would there be any adverse effects if I stop it now?
Avatar n tn That isn't a thyroid storm. A thyroid storm is an emergency situation and requires medical intervention. What you probably had was a whole mess of symptoms from being hypo and having high antibodies. The thyroid regulates body temp so that was probably the start of that attack. It is very difficult for some of us to be out in the heat doing anything physical, let alone just sitting. :) I always use an ice pack behind my neck and in front to cool myself down when that starts happening to me.
458072 tn?1291415186 Thanks for explaining that question AR, I didn't know what a thyroid storm was.
Avatar f tn However, approx a week or two after RAI the body will be getting rid of extra stored thyroid hormones, not producing hormones, but stored, in which there may be hyper symptoms experienced, not a storm! and in which only last approx a week. If you are aware of this and are careful not to exert yourself like cardio exercising or stressors, as not to tax your system any more than necessary, you should be ok. I don't remember going through this myself.
1454777 tn?1288839052 My eyes,,,,,,,,,,my eyes felt peeled back, and it was like I was in a weird zone. My mom told me that it may be a thyroid storm. That day I did see a doctor, she was pressing on my thyroid, while she had me try to swallow water. I am not sure what I am anymore, Hypo or not. I do know that I have several goiters from an ultrasound last week. I just want to know if anyone else has had this experience.

1232907 tn?1367471737 Low ferritin can cause negative reaction like palpitations, nervousness, and anxiety in someone starting thyroid hormone replacement. Someone described it like being shot out of a cannon. It is therefore imperative that ferritin not be at the bottom of the range before starting thyroid hormone medication." If you haven't been tested for ferritin, Vitamin D, and B12 then you should request those, along with Free T3 and Free T4.
Avatar n tn You get over medicated. Too much medication. I have been over medicated before and became hyper years after my TT. You could also have re growth of remaining thyroid tissue. It has happened, rare, but it does. If you are getting hyper symptoms please let your doctor know. That is why you need to make sure you get your levels checked periodically.
1413042 tn?1281770262 The endo has asked for another blood test in 2 weeks time. So, should I discontinue Propranolol or take it for 2 more weeks? Or try to wean off? Would there be any adverse effects if I stop it now? How much heart rate & BP is reduced by Propranolol? Will I get hypotension if I continue with Propranolol? Please suggest.
Avatar f tn Will an abortion put me at risk for a thyroid storm? I am on medication. I also understand that I am not the first women out there that has done this because of hyperthyroid/graves disease.
Avatar m tn If, at any time, you feel that you are in a medical emergency with these symptoms, you should go to the nearest ER or call 911 as these can be symptoms of thyroid storm, which can be very dangerous. If the symptoms continue, you should call your doctor and request new blood work... I'm not sure why he would completely stop the medication vs lowering the dosage...

Avatar f tn Also be aware that Anti-thyroid meds can change your levels very quickly so that you go from hyper to hypo in no time at all. Get her tested every 2 weeks if I was you until things start to stabilise. I had RAI done in June 08 and havent looked back. I too have Graves and was hyperthyroid.
Avatar f tn these drugs quieten down the symptoms of the overactive thyroid, by blocking the adrenaline-like effects of thyroid hormones. Propranolol tablets are the most frequently used." It is likely your doctor will follow up with you in the coming weeks and monitor your levels and decide what to do after that. Once your thyroid levels are under control, you chances of conceiving will greatly improve.
2179775 tn?1337729186 My doctor thinks i am having a thyroid crisis, or thyroid storm. Can this be?? I realize i should now be in hospital, but i hate hospitals and will be last resort, my only relief is to get to sleep, which is pretty impossible. I also have intermittent rashes, vommiting, or trying to, and a terrible feeling of anxiety. Please give me some advice, this is the most awful feeling.
Avatar n tn I am not a Dr by any means, but I thought if you were going into a "Thyroid Storm", you would need medical treatment ASAP!!?? I dont think "thyroid storm" just hits in the evening and then eases up and comes back every night. I truly feel Thyroid Storm is a life threatening medical emergency that needs treatment right away..
