Avatar f tn Actually it is quite common for a doctor to prescribe Propranolol tablets during the first few weeks of treatment after overactive thyroid has been diagnosed. From a medical website, regarding treatment of overactive thyroid: "Beta-blockers may be used in the first few weeks; these drugs quieten down the symptoms of the overactive thyroid, by blocking the adrenaline-like effects of thyroid hormones. Propranolol tablets are the most frequently used.
Avatar f tn no iam not on any medication other than propranolol for racing hart i did have blud tests with a specialist but didnt ask wot they were for other than that they were to do with my thyroid thankx from jox
Avatar f tn Until now it races sometimes. If your thyroid is overactive it could Definately be a cause - but perhaps adding to it, are you anxious about the operation in 6 days and may be that's part of it? In any case I wish you luck with your operation and I am very sorry to have read about your loss.
1504778 tn?1321394645 i couldnt figure out what was wrong with me and finally found a doctor who said he thinks i have hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid) going for blood tests tomorrow to find out forsure, but ive realised i get random little aches in my heart area , mostly when i lay down and id ont no if this is normal or my bodys just adjusting to them?
Avatar f tn My specialist has never used the term Grave's disease. Just overactive is what she calls it. Said my thyroid was 3 times it's normal size. I take 5-5mg of Methimazole a day and 1-120mg of propranolol a day.The results I gave you is all the lab would give me. Is there something else I should be asking for when they give me the results?
Avatar f tn went to GP as I can hardly walk and feel lightheaded and he sent me for an xray on my knees and told me to stop taking thyroid tablet for a month. I was taking it since November one tablet a day at 20mg - just wondering if you have come across this as you seem to have researched thyroid alot. This just seems to be endless and once again I think people think it is all in my head!! all I will say is I WISH it was...
Avatar f tn Hi, I had RAI for graves last year as well. After RAI treatment, the thyroid can 'dump' some of its hormone causing hyperthyroidism again which is why they probably have you on PTU, which suppresses thyroid function. This dump doesn't last long, at least it didn't for me (1 month). I was told that RAI doesn't kill the thyroid but strips it of its function, so some of the cells are non-functioning.
Avatar n tn Other causes include the use of some drugs (such as amphetamines, caffeine, corticosteroids, and drugs used for certain psychiatric disorders), alcohol abuse or withdrawal, mercury poisoning, overactive thyroid or liver failure. Tremors can be an indication of hypoglycemia, along with palpitations, sweating and anxiety. Some forms of tremor are inherited and run in families, while others have no known cause.
Avatar m tn In the space of about 1 month I lost half a stone for no apparent reason, so I turned to the internet to look for reasons why this might be. Overactive thyroid is one of the things I came across so I looked into it more and some of the symptoms ring a bell; Mood swings, Sweating, Tiredness, weight loss regardless of increased appetite, sleeping poorly, shaky hands (sometimes) and that my heart occasionally feels like it skips a beat.
Avatar f tn Here are some the common symptoms of a Hyperthyroid condition (I am no expert just a fellow person with a Hyperthyroid condition) You may only have a temporary overactive thyroid condition and actually not have thyroid disease hard to tell with out more data.
Avatar n tn I understand the frustration. Are you are beta blockers? I took propanol for two weeks to settle my heart rate while we waited for the methimazole to kick in and slow down the hormone production. It helped a lot.
Avatar f tn which drugs is best for me now.on carbimazole and propranolol but have stopped as I confirmed been pregnant.
Avatar f tn It is most often used to treat hypertension, agina, and abnormal heart rhythms but it is also helpful in controlling the fast heart rate and other symptoms of an overactive thyroid gland. Propranolol also helps to reduce the palpitations, sweating, and tremor of severe anxiety and is also used to prevent migrane headaches. STOPPING THE DRUG Do not stop the drug without consulting your doctor. Abrupt cessation ( suddenly stopping the drug) may lead to worsening of the underlying condition.
Avatar m tn Free T3 is the biologically active thyroid hormone that largely regulates metabolism. Free T4 is a prohormone available for conversion to FT3. Your FT4 is at the top of the range, suggesting that perhaps you are still somewhat hyper. You really need to also test for FT3. More importantly please tell us about any symptoms you have currently.
Avatar n tn Then 3 weeks ago I went back into AF and the hospital did a blood test for the thyroid, although throughout all this process my GP had tested and stated my thyroid was fine. The hospital test revealed a TSH of 0.03 and suggested I return to the GP who again tested and now states I have T level of 26. I feel anxious and unwell, not sure which comes first if I have an overactive thyroid, is it causing AF or could the AF and amiodrone have caused the thyroid?
1413042 tn?1281770262 The endo has asked for another blood test in 2 weeks time. So, should I discontinue Propranolol or take it for 2 more weeks? Or try to wean off? Would there be any adverse effects if I stop it now? How much heart rate & BP is reduced by Propranolol? Will I get hypotension if I continue with Propranolol? Please suggest.
Avatar f tn Up until 10 days ago my concerns have been: chronic diarrhea that came after a bout of Cdiff, but might but might be colitis related. Migraines, since puberty, but changed recently in type, and one constant headache for 8+ weeks now, that the think may be due to intracranial hypertension due to a CT scan that showed a "partially empty sella" ( where the pituitary sits). A DVT 2+ years due to Factor V. 10 days ago I noticed a lump on the right side of my neck.
Avatar f tn 40 I am also wondering about how long will i have to take the propranolol. what has to happen for me to stop taking it. I am not a patient person and would love for all this to just go away. any info would be great.
Avatar f tn So I know that those two hormones (seratonin and estrogen) are off. So I go to the doctor and they ran a blood test finding that my thyroid is overactive. My doc also had me do an ultrasound and found that my thyroid is "inflamed." Because of my nervousness at the doctor's, my heart races, and she knows this, yet she prescribed me beta-blockers, which I find absolutely ridiculous.
Avatar f tn Nothing is ever easy or promised with Thyroid disease. Were you tested for Hashimoto's as well when you were tested for Graves? Sometimes people with Hashi's will start out with hyper swings from nodules and inflammation. Just a thought. I also cannot understand why your doctor is checking TSH only on the last test. Free T4 and Free T3 are the active levels of thyroid hormone in the body. TSH is a pituitary function test and should not be the only test used.
Avatar n tn Hi, No.. you won't die! I used to have an overactive thyroid too. You can't have the surgery until your thyroid is controlled with the meds. It might take some time, mine took about 1 -2 years. You might need more medication? Also try to eat lots of foods that will suppress the thyroid like broccoli.
Avatar f tn What is the difference between and overactive thyroid and suppressed? Do symptoms change with each?
1308034 tn?1337644984 (They can originate in the SA node, the atria, or in another node, the AV node, that transmits the signals from the upper heart chambers to the lower heart chambers.) It is less common for thyroid disease/meds to cause ventricular dysrhythmias, but it can happen. PVCs can also occur in NORMAL, HEALTHY PEOPLE WITH NORMAL, HEALTHY HEARTS.
Avatar f tn She is on 15 mg of methimazole a day and propranolol 4 times a day. At first the levels were not coming down. At our last visit her T3 has moved from a 15.9 to a 7.1. We were very excited to finally see the levels coming down. If her levels are coming down, why does she demonstrate such strong Graves symptoms still...tremors, heat intolorance, eating a lot, nightmares, very moody, joint pain, staring, inability to focus.....
Avatar m tn but what about all the other... and his PRIMARY CARE DOCTOR wanted him seen for an overactive pituitary... which could be an ademona...? and his kidney levels concern me too... HELP?!
Avatar f tn I just got a call from my regular doctor this morning saying that my blood test work which got done last week showed an overactive thyroid. Again. This was just a routine check up so I'm seeing my endo doc on Thursday. Last time I got my tests done were in April when they showed an slight overactive thyroid. I was prescribed beta blockers. Before that, almost a year ago, I went through a phase of an overactive thyroid that lasted about a 3 months. After this period, my values were normal.
Avatar n tn Since thyroid disease does not discriminate, thyroid blood tests can be run on any age child. You should talk to you pediatrician. Malfunctioning thyroid can cause growth and development issues.
