Avatar m tn http://www.hepatitis-central.com/hcv/cirrhosis/propranolol/exercise.html There is much more detail in this article. Note that this study focussed on MODERATE EXERCISE while taking PROPANOLOL and not an activity like weight lifting.. I would guess that you're taking Propanolol and there does seem to be some benefit with moderate exercise. Intuitively it would seem that strenuous exercise is not a wise thing to do if you have banded esophageal varices.

Avatar m tn then through the liver then back to the heart. Scar tissue in the liver (cirrhosis) can interfere with that blood flow, causing pressure to build up in the portal vein (portal hypertension), and the spleen to enlarge (splenomegaly). As the spleen enlarges, it traps more and more platelets. (The amount of platelets in the bloodstream is reduced because the spleen is busy trapping them).
89592 tn?1391274422 I have a new gastro, my previous gastro has retired. I was dxd in 2012 with cirrhosis after the previous gastro found 2 grade 2 non bldg varices. I am on 100 mgs propranolol am and 100 mgs propranolol pm. Now I have a new gastro who has mentioned scheduling an egd and suggested if have varices, he would like to band them. My last EGD was done in 2012. I have rheum arth along with sjogrens which does a number on my throat anyway along with the other overlapping r/a issues.
Avatar m tn Have you had complications from your cirrhosis? Such as ascites (fluid build up in the abdomen), swelling of the lower legs, ankles and feet, bursting varices (vomiting blood), Hepatic encephalopathy (forgetfulness, confusion, getting lost in places you know, stupor or coma)? Do you take any drugs to treat these complications of cirrhosis? Diurectics, Lactulose, Xifaxan, Nadolol or Propranolol?
29837 tn?1414534648 The effects of different types of adrenoreceptor blocking agents on portal venous pressure were studied in patients with cirrhosis and portal hypertension. Oral atenolol (selective beta 1 blocker), propranolol (non-selective beta 1 and beta 2 blocker), and prazosin (alpha blocker) were compared in three groups of eight patients. Haemodynamic measurements were made before and after two or three and eight weeks of therapy.
Avatar m tn Patients with more advanced cirrhosis should take only ½ of the recommended dose. In fact, for patients with cirrhosis, acetaminophen, when used as described, is the preferred medication for the treatment of pain. " http://www.cpmc.org/learning/documents/cirrhosis-ws.
Avatar n tn I usually have high blood pressure. I'm on propranolol to control it, a very low dose of propranolol at that, but for the past few days, my blood pressure has been exceptionally low. My heart rate too, for example this morning my blood pressure is 112/66 heart rate 61. It's been like this the past few days, heart rate as low as 54 and blood pressure as low as 100/59. What's up with this?
Avatar m tn He has advanced beyond fibrosis to the point his liver is now scared (cirrhosis). Without getting too complicated… a person must first have cirrhosis. And cirrhosis causes something called Portal Hypertension. It is Portal Hypertension that causes varices. That is why varices are a common complication of cirrhosis of the liver. Varices can not be seen by an ultrasound. Varices are diagnosed by a procedure called an Endoscopy.
Avatar f tn I have been given propranolol to take as I have had continuous palpitations since monday and my heartrate has randomly shooting up in the 100's (not related to posture!!) These will also help with my bp, it has been creeping up. I have had these in the past but was more recently on bisoprolol. Which is more common for POTS symptoms? I was in A&E last night and back at my GP's this morning. I have been refered back to the cardiologist who is going to see me in november.
Avatar f tn A GP that specialises in headaches suggested Propranadol in 2013, I have tried other things he suggested first so I explained this to my new regular GP & he said I could give them a try.........no checks what so ever! Anyway I got a BP test done at the chemist & read all I could & have decided to start taking them, I am on 20mg twice a day intending to work up to 40 mg twice a day.
4155003 tn?1351614311 ive bin on propranolol for about 12weeks & weaned myself down to 10ml every other day, i took 10ml propranolol 52hours ago & not going to take another one as im ready to stop. when will it be fully out my system?
Avatar f tn 4 days ago pcp changed my beta blocker from propranolol 40mg twice daily to metprolol er 25mg daily d/t low pulse in 40s- 50s. Been on propranolol for 22yrs for PVCS. She had me just stop propranolol and start metoprolol, been experiencing shakiness, occassional pvcs, headache, nausea, pulse still 45 - low 60s at rest and with exertion 70-90. Should she have tapered propranolol or will the metoprolol block the more serious withdrawal symptoms ie: HTN, chest pain ect.
1473047 tn?1286961232 Hi All ! Got D bad News am now a member of your clan , Think I got it in way back in 1982 a long time ago. Have not started treatment yet. My biopsy says I'm at stage 4 ,I'm gutted. finished my hep A and hep B shots, hope to start treatment early next year. The only good news seems to be my genotype 3, but because I'm the wrong side of 40 & stage 4 cirrhosis my chances are much lower ??
89592 tn?1391274422 I was dxd with cirrhosis in 2012. I am 69 and have had hemorrhoids since 1998..had stapled hemorrhoidectomy in 2011. I also had a colonoscopy a couple years later and the gastro performed laser coagulation. all was well for a few years than had rectal bleeding again. I was told I have impressive rectal varices. These bleed quite a bit..bright red, dripping into toilet, and on tp. I have been to the er many times and they end up sending me home. It always stops spontaneously.
15493140 tn?1689515999 I was diagnosed with early cirrhosis in 2008 I was diagnosed with esophageal varicies in 2012 which I had banded. I also have some lower leg edema. I did have some amount of ascities which have improved since my hep c was cured and is no longer noted on my ultrasounds which I have every six months. Yeah I’ve learned way more then I really wanted to know about liver disease.
Avatar m tn Either I have two newly-developed hardened bodies near the base of my penis, or they've been there all along and I never noticed them before. They do not seem to be structured in a vein-like manner; rather, it's two symmetrical lumps, on of either side of the center-line of my penis...the only word I can think to use is like a "buckle" across my penis from left to right, or vice versa. If I squeeze either of the lumps with any force, it is quite painful.
