Avatar m tn http://www.hepatitis-central.com/hcv/cirrhosis/propranolol/exercise.html There is much more detail in this article. Note that this study focussed on MODERATE EXERCISE while taking PROPANOLOL and not an activity like weight lifting.. I would guess that you're taking Propanolol and there does seem to be some benefit with moderate exercise. Intuitively it would seem that strenuous exercise is not a wise thing to do if you have banded esophageal varices.

Avatar m tn If so an enlarged spleen is a complication that occurs because of the cirrhosis and the resulting portal hypertension. It is a condition that is the result of the cirrhosis and portal hypertension and not a condition of the spleen itself. There is no treatment for an enlarge spleen resulting from cirrhosis. Only when the cirrhosis is reversed can the enlargement of the spleen be resolved.

She had me just stop propranolol and start metoprolol, been experiencing shakiness, occassional pvcs, headache, nausea, pulse still 45 - low 60s at rest and with exertion 70-90. I also had a colonoscopy a couple years later and the gastro performed laser coagulation. all was well for a few years than had rectal bleeding again. I was told I have impressive rectal varices. These bleed quite a bit..bright red, dripping into toilet, and on tp. I have been to the er many times and they end up sending me home. It always stops spontaneously.
15493140 tn?1689515999 New user here. Have had fatty liver for many years. Recently ALT/AST mildly elevated. Seen a GI doc and got a liver biopsy. Biopsy showed cirrhosis. I have no noticeable symptoms. Never drank or done drugs. Anywho, my question is I have read several places that the diabetes medicine Metformin should not be used by people with liver cirrhosis. I am type 2 diabetic. I have not discussed this with any of my doctors yet because my appointments are a few weeks away.

Avatar f tn I take propranolol the dosage is up to your doctor it doesn't really make you tired although everyone is different but it doesn't me it's suppose to be for stress and anxiety but I don't think it helps very well you might consider ativan there isn't a medication that has propranolol in it there is a script of propranolol by itself it's not mixed with any medication
Avatar n tn Sertraline and other Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) inhibit a certain enzyme which usually metabolizes Propranolol. Due to this inhibition, Propranolol action may be enhanced. But it will not be appropriate to look at this isolated piece of information and ignore other evidences. We do have a lot of trials and reviews exploring the combination. There is no conclusive evidence which allows us to deem this combination unacceptable.
