Propranolol for stuttering

Common Questions and Answers about Propranolol for stuttering

inderal

Avatar n tn sometimes Tenex is also used in conjunction with stimulants to help control ADHD symptoms....first I have heard of inderal (brand name for propranolol) being used but makes sense...Always to remember to ask your doctor any questions about your meds and health care...the only stupid questions are the ones not asked....Also beta blockers are also given to help control migraines to regulate fluxs in BP...not because too high but slight changes can trigger migraines...
1243620 tn?1274790697 Does anyone take propranolol for anxiety and panic attacks? I've had crippling anxiety for my whole life. Antidepressants increase it to the point where I'm in such a state I almost pass out from hypervenitlating. I've heard propranolol is good for this, and is effective.
Avatar f tn I also do take the beta-blocker pindolol which has kept my BP at 125/70 for years. Shrink says very occasional and use of propranolol on top of pindolol should not be a problem but I still have concerns which I will run by my GP. I actually did receive a call from my pharmacy pointing out the risk of a low BP problem. So...I am wondering if anyone has used propranolol or has an educated opinion on both its use in ED and possible interactions.
Avatar f tn If so, would this explain my cog issues, and memory, stuttering etc. Problem is, when I saw this dr, I had no cog issues only tremors, no stuttering or vertigo, or ON, all that started like 1 month later, one sx after another. What do you think. Is someone stupid here or what? Or am I overreacting?
Avatar m tn I'm 27 yrs old & wondering if it's too late for speech therapy because of my age. I stutter sometimes & can't pronounce some words well. Like it's hard to make it come out. Feels like it's getting worse each passing year. When I was younger, I know I spoke better. Wasn't as bad like now. Thinking about speech therapy.
Avatar f tn I know propranolol is used for PTSD...but what should I ask for in the pharmacy and what is the dosage? Are there any serious effect if taken without proper knowledge?
Avatar m tn I am 16 years-old and have been stuttering for pratically all my life. I have been to a speech therapist for about 5 years but when i turned 15 she said that she can't help me aymore and I really have to push myself if Iwant my speech to get better. My parents told me that I got hit by a swing in the head at about 4 years old and it was an inch away from my eye. Ive been stuttering a lot lately and my head hurts(headaches). Does anybody have any advice or suggestions?
Avatar n tn My 3.5 yr. old son has begun stuttering. For a long time now (about 6 months or so) he's been repeating words, but I haven't been too concerned about this. However, over the last week or so, he struggles to get the first few letters out. For instance, he'll ask "wwwwwhhhere's the dog?". And I've noticed it often involves the "what", "where", and "why" questions. It doesn't happen all the time.
Avatar f tn I first stuttered last year, never in my life had i ever had difficulty communicating, i'm a talker lol. I also lost all my nouns, very weird to not be able to name anything or anyone. it was alarming and confusing to just suddenly start walking like a drunk string puppet, not knowing what something i've known for ever was called and on top of that stuttering and slurring the words i did find.
Avatar f tn The clinical presentation of stroke-associated stuttering is variable and it is important to rule out neurogenic stuttering which typically appears following some sort of injury or disease to the central nervous system such as with stroke. For proper evaluation, it is best that you discuss this with your attending physician or your speech-language pathologist. Treatment will depend on the underlying issue.
Avatar n tn Hi, Thank you for your question. Usually, propranolol (beta blocker) is suggested for prophylactic treatment of migraine. Acute or prompt treatment require over the counter pain killers and triptans. Avoiding the triggering factors of cluster headache might help you in order to prevent its recurrence. Hope it helps.
Avatar m tn I used to take a slow-release Propranolol 80 mg every day, which caused severe tiredness and extreme fatigue, to the point that I was not able to think straight and sometimes could not even get out of bed. Apparently, Propranolol also inhibits the ability for you to burn fat, not to mention gastrointestinal issues. Depression is also significantly higher when taking Propranolol.
Avatar f tn Our younger son and both his children stuttered a bit when they reached three years of age. It can be a sign of nervousness or anxiousness or even the fact that the brain is working faster than the mouth. Our son and granddaughter stopped stuttering after about six months; it was almost a year before our grandson stopped this behaviour (he is a bit more anxious than his sister or father). So, I suspect your son might be similar in his behaviour.
Avatar f tn I take propranolol for my blood pressure and keeps my heart steady when a panic attack comes around. For my anxiety, the dr put me on celexa, propranolol, and Ativan. This combo usually works pretty well.
390140 tn?1219883889 Have you seen anyone report stuttering or increased stuttering after using Abilify? Is there currently any research regarding Abilify and stuttering?
Avatar f tn And, yes, I have noticed some stuttering, but mostly when I am excited about something and try to talk too fast. I have been on these meds for about a month, and I do see the stuttering becoming less and less. For me, I think it is just part of my body adjusting to the new mix, and that it will go away. All I can tell you is that maybe the same will happen for you, and if not and it's really bothersome, go back to your doctor.
Avatar f tn Are you referring to stuttering? If so, it might ease your worries to know that both our son and granddaughter stuttered for a few months at about the age of your daughter. I think it has to do with the anxiety of growing up and leaving Mom for short periods of time - as school, sports, other activities, etc.
390140 tn?1219883889 My 8-yo son has been on Abilify for a year now (for impulsivity and aggression related to his Asperger's diagnosis). He just started to "stutter" about 2 months ago, and we wonder whether it is related to ths Abilify. I can't find much online relating the two, though.
4155003 tn?1351614311 ive bin on propranolol for about 12weeks & weaned myself down to 10ml every other day, i took 10ml propranolol 52hours ago & not going to take another one as im ready to stop. when will it be fully out my system?
Avatar n tn weight for example. What is a perfect dose for an adult male would probably be too much for a preteen girl. It's important to talk to a doctor or poison control in case treatment is needed.
Avatar f tn Yeah, Propanolol has a chance of helping you. Not sure whether suggesting to the doctor what to try is the right approach, but you could always ask if you're a good candidate for it (assuming you've been checked out properly, diagnosed properly -- which often means an MRI and a long discussion of history, habits, possible triggers).
Avatar f tn I have been given propranolol to take as I have had continuous palpitations since monday and my heartrate has randomly shooting up in the 100's (not related to posture!!) These will also help with my bp, it has been creeping up. I have had these in the past but was more recently on bisoprolol. Which is more common for POTS symptoms? I was in A&E last night and back at my GP's this morning. I have been refered back to the cardiologist who is going to see me in november.
Avatar f tn Because of my symptoms, my doctor is ruling out physical causes before diagnosing it as stress (which will be his diagnosis if my daily adrenaline levels turn out to be high). He put me on Propranolol for a month for anxiety and my other issues.
Avatar f tn Has any one ever come across speech difficulty, either slurred or stuttering speech, along with migraines? I have done research on the subject and have come up with the slurred speech issue with migraines but not stuttering and i'm trying to help my twin with her migraines and speech difficulties from ending her career.
