Propranolol for headache

Common Questions and Answers about Propranolol for headache

inderal

Avatar n tn Hi, Thank you for your question. Usually, propranolol (beta blocker) is suggested for prophylactic treatment of migraine. Acute or prompt treatment require over the counter pain killers and triptans. Avoiding the triggering factors of cluster headache might help you in order to prevent its recurrence. Hope it helps.
Avatar f tn 4 days ago pcp changed my beta blocker from propranolol 40mg twice daily to metprolol er 25mg daily d/t low pulse in 40s- 50s. Been on propranolol for 22yrs for PVCS. She had me just stop propranolol and start metoprolol, been experiencing shakiness, occassional pvcs, headache, nausea, pulse still 45 - low 60s at rest and with exertion 70-90. Should she have tapered propranolol or will the metoprolol block the more serious withdrawal symptoms ie: HTN, chest pain ect.
1285921 tn?1271718059 I have suffered from migraine headaches for about 13 yrs now. 5 months ago I injured my back. I have allot of other pain issues as well including two bulging discs in my neck, fused ankle arthritis in my knee, tendinitis in my knee, bursitis around my ischial process, and I also suffer from peripheral neuropathy. Since the injury, even tho it is healed I have been experiencing migraines and other sever headaches, approximately 4 a week.

Avatar f tn For two months know ive had a throbbing headache and it wont go away and its doesnt feel better with pills....
Avatar n tn sometimes Tenex is also used in conjunction with stimulants to help control ADHD symptoms....first I have heard of inderal (brand name for propranolol) being used but makes sense...Always to remember to ask your doctor any questions about your meds and health care...the only stupid questions are the ones not asked....Also beta blockers are also given to help control migraines to regulate fluxs in BP...not because too high but slight changes can trigger migraines...
Avatar f tn To date I hvae been on three medications for my headaches (meloxicam, zomig and propranolol) but nothing seems to help. My headache has lasted for a month straight but it seems to be getting worse. My family doctor seems to think that I have sinus, tension and migraine headaches. The pain and sensitivity to light has become so bad that I have to sit in a dark and not move all night after a day at school. The pain is mainly behind my eye and on my nose bridge, then it spreeds to my forehead.
1243620 tn?1274790697 Does anyone take propranolol for anxiety and panic attacks? I've had crippling anxiety for my whole life. Antidepressants increase it to the point where I'm in such a state I almost pass out from hypervenitlating. I've heard propranolol is good for this, and is effective.
Avatar f tn in between i got bladder infection and some stomach prob my doc treated it. i usually took parecetomol for headache. but in start of march i feel change kind of headache like my scalp is numb. when i go for shopping my scalp got numbed i got watery eyes and runny nose. it heppens with me in home as well. i went to doc she said it is nothing ur using laptop too much may be it is because of laptop.my eye side is also -0.50. little week.
Avatar f tn I then had to take 500mg of Divalproex Sodium twice a day for two weeks. I then went to a neurologist where, once again, I got prescribed more medicine without a diagnosis. I took 120mg of Verapamil for two weeks and it again did nothing. I was also prescribed Bulatabil/Acetaminophen for a pain killer and I can't take it everyday but I have a persistent headache every day. It never goes away and its always a 5+/10.
Avatar n tn If the Propanolol was prescribed for you as well as the Sertraline, taking ibuprophen for your headache should not be a problem.
778037 tn?1377986200 Hi, Inderal is indicated for the prophylaxis of common migraine headache. The efficacy of propranolol in the treatment of a migraine attack that has started has not been established, and propranolol is not indicated for such use. The initial dose is 80 mg Inderal daily in divided doses. The usual effective dose range is 160 mg to 240 mg per day. The dosage may be increased gradually to achieve optimum migraine prophylaxis.
Avatar f tn I also do take the beta-blocker pindolol which has kept my BP at 125/70 for years. Shrink says very occasional and use of propranolol on top of pindolol should not be a problem but I still have concerns which I will run by my GP. I actually did receive a call from my pharmacy pointing out the risk of a low BP problem. So...I am wondering if anyone has used propranolol or has an educated opinion on both its use in ED and possible interactions.
Avatar f tn I feel very poorly. All of my doctors think the headache is not related, as it started out as a coital headache on May 6, but has not gone away.
Avatar f tn I know propranolol is used for PTSD...but what should I ask for in the pharmacy and what is the dosage? Are there any serious effect if taken without proper knowledge?
Avatar n tn Use of anti-inflammatories like indomethacin or ibuprofen or propranolol prior to sexual activity and psychological counseling for selected patients is helpful. Severe cases may need to get neurological pathologies like aneurysms and tumors to be ruled out by a neurologist after CT or MRI head. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar f tn I am a 46-year-old female who takes propranolol 10 mg twice a day for BP and HR. For the past 3 days, my blood pressure has run around 150/101 and I have this awful headache where I feel like my head is going to explode. I'm not stressed, nothing has changed diet-wise. I haven't missed any of my medicine. Should I call my doctor or is this normal and will work itself out?

Avatar m tn I used to take a slow-release Propranolol 80 mg every day, which caused severe tiredness and extreme fatigue, to the point that I was not able to think straight and sometimes could not even get out of bed. Apparently, Propranolol also inhibits the ability for you to burn fat, not to mention gastrointestinal issues. Depression is also significantly higher when taking Propranolol.
Avatar m tn My husband is 62 he never had high bp but recently its been slightly high, maybe causing headaches.. but from what i researched beta blockers for bp are harmful to the liver... does anyone else deal with headaches....
Avatar f tn I take propranolol for my blood pressure and keeps my heart steady when a panic attack comes around. For my anxiety, the dr put me on celexa, propranolol, and Ativan. This combo usually works pretty well.
4155003 tn?1351614311 ive bin on propranolol for about 12weeks & weaned myself down to 10ml every other day, i took 10ml propranolol 52hours ago & not going to take another one as im ready to stop. when will it be fully out my system?
Avatar n tn weight for example. What is a perfect dose for an adult male would probably be too much for a preteen girl. It's important to talk to a doctor or poison control in case treatment is needed.
Avatar f tn Yeah, Propanolol has a chance of helping you. Not sure whether suggesting to the doctor what to try is the right approach, but you could always ask if you're a good candidate for it (assuming you've been checked out properly, diagnosed properly -- which often means an MRI and a long discussion of history, habits, possible triggers).
