Avatar f tn I also had my thyroid removed 2 yrs ago, making me Hypothryodism. Battling the effects of this everyday has now be compounded by the addition of a Beta Blocker. I ve been prescribed Propranolol 40 mg 3x a day for hand tremors. Since the surgery I gained almost 20 lbs, now that I m on Propranolol...I ve gained an additional 10 lbs in 2 month. I"m at my wits end, 5ft & now 185 lbs. Although the Propranolol has helped my tremors, I cannot afford this weight gain.

I had to quit my career (cosmetologist) I loved it and right before my migrianes randomly became daily I had an offer to become a redken color artist and do hair in big time hair shows up on stage with many famous hairstylist.
Avatar f tn I tried everything including Toprol beta blocker, and besides weight gain, horrible nightmares and cold hands and feet, I would have break thru episodes. I haven't had not one SVT episode since my ablation! best wishes.

Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism last august and have been on propranolol and methimazole since. I was taking four methimazole and now my specialist increased it to 5 and that really makes me sad. I'm gaining weight and feel so awful about myself. Yes i am feeling better which is worth alot but my hot flashes are insane. My pituitary gland is what the specialist refers to as "sleeping" and so I was wondering if you have any suggestions as to how to wake it up.
Avatar f tn ALSO, after 8 yrs on Abilify, had unexplained weight gain of 15-20 lbs. in spite of good diet, reg exercise. Now weaning off Abilify due to wt. gain and titrating up on Lamictal for obvious mood swings. Idk, Abilify worked well for me with Zoloft for approx 8 years. Good luck to you!
Avatar f tn Me again. I hadn't tested much in over a year- hoping this prior post link will work on this post to refresh anyone's memory who cares to look (Gimel- telus2 etc) https://www.medhelp.org/posts/Thyroid-Disorders/High-FT3--Low-FT4--suppressed-TSH-as-per-usual-tsh--test-result-question/show/3038791 As of just several years ago, I'd been taking 180mg of NP thyroid per day. I'd stopped taking propranolol in 2018 and was in the process of getting my numbers right.

I had my test done today and this are the results tsh 0.014 t4 free 1.17 normal range 0.70-2.00 t3 free 4.20 normal range 1.70-4.20 my old results were t3 free 20.00 t4 free 3.93 I know this is due to the meds but why is my tsh still to low if everything else strating to be normal. Is this normal?
2010625 tn?1329372056 Different people has different side effects. I take Abilify (its not Ambilify) and it hasn't caused any weight gain and helps with depression. Abilify has caused me to have akathisia (restless movements of legs/feet). I take propranolol for it and found that it also is used for anxiety without being a benzo. It is a beta blocker which is primarily used to lower blood pressure.
1668236 tn?1308156426 fatigue, tachycardia, palpitations, ^ systolic BP, shortness of breath, muscle twitches, eye twitches, heat intolerance, and restlessness.) Also, did starting Methimazole make you gain weight? I am really terrified about gaining a lot weight lol because I just lost 24 lbs and I don't want it back, ha! I am anxious to start feeling better soon. I have only had active Grave's for roughly 4 mos or so, but it has really put a damper on my housework and schoolwork.
1415174 tn?1453243103 I was wondering when u were on topamax did u ever get a sore throat or sinus infection? My neuro just added topiramate 25 mg to my 80mg propranolol for my daily migrianes. Avatar f tn I have all the same symptoms as you. My hair is thinning so badly, no sleep and the weight gain!! HYPERS are supposed to lose weight, ha ha. If anyone answers you, I would love to hear it.
Avatar m tn He takes the Propranolol now as we have tried Depakote(sleepiness and weight gain) and Topomax (recurrent kidney stones). He now uses Midrin and Indomethicin for migraine abatement which is sometimes helpful and at times has to use Stadol nasal spray. He takes an aspirin a day as he was having recurrent TIAs and the risk on Coumadin was too great. He tried Plavix(was allergic) and Aggrenox which increased the headache frequency.
988694 tn?1332359479 I should add that what the doctor gave you will have a "downer" effect and more than lkely all the side effects you read about. Weight gain is a real issue, I gained 100 lbs between Elavil and undiagnosed Hypo at that time. The beta blockers saved me. You can get long acting ones or regular ones are cheaper....a tiny headache until your body gets used to it :) about a week.
Avatar m tn There's weight lifting and there's weight lifting. I'd probably lay off the full squat and throw-up-bucket routine. Hopefully some here or elsewhere with varisces can chime in with their own experiences with weight lifting. Avatar n tn I suspected that this started in late 2020 when I start losing weight. I lost a total of 25lb, and I am currently weighing at 125lb and I am 5’5. Things got bad when my 19 years relationship ended in March. Before the diagnosed, I thought I was just going to breakup with weight lost, sleepless, anxiety, nights, and rapid heartbeat. Once I was diagnosed, I was relief, but my anxiety and sleeplessness didn’t go away. I was on 10MG Propranolol as needed basis.
Avatar f tn I have a history of migraines for about twenty years. I quit smoking 7 months ago, and started propranolol 20 mg once a day. I gained 30 pounds. My whole body is sore and Im having episodes where my upper body and sometimes legs just feel so heavy and tired I feel like Im going to pass out. Had a Head CT, Head and Neck CTA, CBC, EKG all were normal. Is it related to migraine? ER doctor said it is anxiety. Oh I stopped celexa five months ago because I was extremely fatigued.
667913 tn?1242700488 Cortizone makes me gain and become huge, and I do mean huge. Well, if I do not have the SI injection he will cut of my meds. If this injection does not work, then he wants to do a radio something or other. I feel that I am being held medically hostage over my meds. I will go through withdrawls if do not have the injection. Even my family dr feels I am being pressured, and says I should find a new DR. I really do not want to go through all of that again.
Avatar f tn I read that too much potassium doesn’t work well while on propranolol because while on it the body does not excrete potassium as normally and you can get levels that are too high. Could this be the cause or is there an adjustment period while taking propranolol? I’ve been drinking pomegranate juice and cherry juice, 4 oz of each, with breakfast this past week. These are very high in potassium. Something is making me feel very strange and I’m hoping it wears off.
