m having less success finding out about long-term side-effects-in particular, rapid weight gain. I noticed the bloating quite early in my treatment, especially in my face and abdomen. My concern is that the bloated abdomen has been joined by swollen ankles, calves, hands, wrists and breasts. The most worrysome is the abdominal bloating-I rarely gain much weight in my abdomen; it's usually in the butt/thighs/hips area! LOL!!

What I understand is that beta blocker have usually mild side-effects when they are give to people with high blood pressure... BUT in my case, my blood pressure is lower to normal only and rarely in the high range (only when i'm in a middle of a panic attack or in a situation where I feel trap).

ALSO, after 8 yrs on Abilify, had unexplained weight gain of 15-20 lbs. in spite of good diet, reg exercise. Now weaning off Abilify due to wt. gain and titrating up on Lamictal for obvious mood swings. Idk, Abilify worked well for me with Zoloft for approx 8 years. Good luck to you!

Hi, welcome to the forum, seroquel is known to be associated with weight gain. There is significant weight gain is seen, in such cases usually other anti psychotics are prescribed. The weight gaining effect of this drug will not persist after discontinuation. Any associated condition should be looked for. If there is a change in voice (Voice becomes dusky), weight gain, intolerance to cold etc. You need to get your T3, t4 and TSH level checked as it may be in initial phase.

I was wondering when u were on topamax did u ever get a sore throat or sinus infection? My neuro just added topiramate 25 mg to my 80mg propranolol for my daily migrianes. I wanted to stop propranolol as it cause rapid weight gain. 12 pounds in one week! It' seems to b working tho for my headaces but not worth the weight gain and Iv only been on it for 5-6 weeks. I just started topiramate and took my first one two nights ago and that same night was up all night hawking up mucus.

I should add that what the doctor gave you will have a "downer" effect and more than lkely all the side effects you read about. Weight gain is a real issue, I gained 100 lbs between Elavil and undiagnosed Hypo at that time. The beta blockers saved me. You can get long acting ones or regular ones are cheaper....a tiny headache until your body gets used to it :) about a week.

It also makes me tired which I can handle that one but not the weight gain, I have had problems with my back in the past and when I put on weight my back hurts. I have nerve pain in my face and just pain in my face, what would be the other options I can talk to the dr about today? Would another pill from that line of pills be the same? I am going to talk to him about treatment of the other pain in my face if he don't want to then send me to a pain specialist that can treat all the pain.

I have been on Lexapro several times over the last 4 years for 6 months to 2 years at a time. I am having problems with the sexual side effects and the weight gain. Depending on how old you are it could just be a weight thing. Normally early 20s you gain weight and again in mid-40s where it becomes hard to lose the weight. (I'm too lazy to check your status to see if you have your age so those things may not apply).

Thank u Annieinside.I went2my dr yesterday& asked about adding abilify(4me+my husband).She said yes it helps a lot but she will no longer prescribe it2people who dnt get it already because abilfy is apparently an anti -sicotic originally&thay make u gain weight(A lot&u cnt lose it).She said.she has1patient who cnt go w/out it.She weighed185 when she started taking it&I believe ahe said after2yrs the woman weighs over400lbs.

The weight gain no doubt is due to fluid retention which is one of the side effects. You might discuss changing drugs with your Oncologist as there are others available but keep in mind that they all have similar side effecfts even though you mjight not experience them to the same degree. Weight gain is one potential side effect of Cymbalta but it would also depend on your other medications and if they have this side effect as well. It would be worthwhile to speak to your psychiatrist about this and they could see how to adjust and/or change your medications as needed and also how this specific side effect could be addressed.

I used both, and found that side effects are similar; tiredness, weight gain, and a slow pulse. Side effects are more pronounced as the dosage is increased. I had dosages from 25mg to 200mg. daily. Other reported effects are loss of libido, tightness in the chest, itching, irregular breathing, and irregular heartbeat. I also had my thyroid removed 2 yrs ago, making me Hypothryodism. Battling the effects of this everyday has now be compounded by the addition of a Beta Blocker. I ve been prescribed Propranolol 40 mg 3x a day for hand tremors. Since the surgery I gained almost 20 lbs, now that I m on Propranolol...I ve gained an additional 10 lbs in 2 month. I"m at my wits end, 5ft & now 185 lbs. Although the Propranolol has helped my tremors, I cannot afford this weight gain.

t too low a dose actually, that is the standard dose for anxiety sufferers, a low dose would be 10mg/20mg. As for weight gain that is a side effect of propranalol cause it slows the metabolism but from what you have said you seem a very active person so as long as you continue to watch what your eating and exercise you should be ok.
