Avatar f tn She gets severe joint pain. She woke up a few nights ago in pain because her knee had swollen and she could not move it. The week before it was in her ankle and toe. At six years old, if the medicine is causing severe side effects, what is the next best treatment? There are no surgeons in this area to handle this kind of surgery for a 6 year old and I'm not convinced that RAI for my little girl is the best option either.
Avatar f tn I have a history of migraines for about twenty years. I quit smoking 7 months ago, and started propranolol 20 mg once a day. I gained 30 pounds. My whole body is sore and Im having episodes where my upper body and sometimes legs just feel so heavy and tired I feel like Im going to pass out. Had a Head CT, Head and Neck CTA, CBC, EKG all were normal. Is it related to migraine? ER doctor said it is anxiety. Oh I stopped celexa five months ago because I was extremely fatigued.
Avatar f tn She is on 15 mg of methimazole a day and propranolol 4 times a day. At first the levels were not coming down. At our last visit her T3 has moved from a 15.9 to a 7.1. We were very excited to finally see the levels coming down. If her levels are coming down, why does she demonstrate such strong Graves symptoms still...tremors, heat intolorance, eating a lot, nightmares, very moody, joint pain, staring, inability to focus.....

Avatar f tn can propranolol be used for migraine prophylaxis in a patient with heart rate of 60 and family history of diabetes
Avatar f tn It seldom causes symptoms in the early stages, but, over time, untreated hypothyroidism can cause a number of health problems, such as obesity, joint pain, infertility and heart disease. The good news is that accurate thyroid function tests are available to diagnose hypothyroidism, and treatment of hypothyroidism with synthetic thyroid hormone is usually simple, safe and effective once you and your doctor find the right dose for you.
Avatar f tn re not also busy diagnosing and treating the flu and heart problems and body pain etc. So theoretically they become much more expert in it and the interactions between drugs and things like quitting smoking and also in the appropriate drugs to prescribe for a certain condition. Beta blockers, for example, have only been found effective for social anxiety, which doesn't mean they don't work for some people for other things but that's not their main use in anxiety treatment.
Avatar f tn She had me just stop propranolol and start metoprolol, been experiencing shakiness, occassional pvcs, headache, nausea, pulse still 45 - low 60s at rest and with exertion 70-90. Should she have tapered propranolol or will the metoprolol block the more serious withdrawal symptoms ie: HTN, chest pain ect.
Avatar f tn I suffer with severe joint & muscle pain. I have muscle wastage in my calf muscles, more on the lhs. I suffer with tremors, stomach pain and ibs. It also feels like something is stuck in my throat! I have high blood pressure & reflux. I can barely walk, I am a 46 yr old female & feel like my life is at an end! Avatar f tn I read that too much potassium doesn’t work well while on propranolol because while on it the body does not excrete potassium as normally and you can get levels that are too high. Could this be the cause or is there an adjustment period while taking propranolol? I’ve been drinking pomegranate juice and cherry juice, 4 oz of each, with breakfast this past week. These are very high in potassium. Something is making me feel very strange and I’m hoping it wears off.
Avatar f tn I take it daily however it is along with other meds too. Usually treating migraines and/or anxiety is not a one-thing-fix-all. And even if something worked on you in the past may not work today and vise-versa. You can definitely ask about it, it won't hurt. But, my suggestion is to just let your doctor how bad it is and let him/her choose what to give you next. Remember, treatment is a marathon, not a sprint.
Avatar f tn Wow - I am SO glad that I found this blog. I have felt so alone and helpless over the past six months. I returned from Cambodia in March sicker than hell. Besides being careless with the water and what I ate over there, I also got bit by something that left a red circle around it.
Avatar n tn My husband was told after testing by an Internist that he has Hashimotos. He seems to be hyper more often than not as he experiences symptoms of arrythmias, tachycardia (has been cardioverted x1), heat intolerance, trembling hands, hyperhidrosis, etc. However he also goes through periods of fatigue, has joint pain, thin hair and eyebrows, fertility issues and I'm starting to believe he's been depressed for some time. His Dr.
Avatar m tn Does anyone know how propranolol effects exercise? I do triathlon and train using a heart rate monitor. I am wondering if I would be able to progress athletically given my heart rate would be lowered substantially?

Avatar n tn I take propranolol for Tremors from taking Gabapentin. I wanted to know if propranolol has withdrawal symptoms because I am weening off all meds to see if my new symptoms were caused by all the meds. I want to add meds as needed for Fibromyalgia.
Avatar f tn I laid down on the floor and my head started to ache and the pain spread up into my chest and neck. It felt like I was paralyzed from my chest to my jaw and I could barely talk. I started shaking and my vision was blurry. My husband called an ambulance and they took me to the hospital. By the time I got there I started to feel better and my heart rhythm was better but I felt terrible.
3122467 tn?1342138836 To deal with it, I take a beta blocker, propranolol, and it works beautifully. Not only does it take care of the akathisia it also treats anxiety. Once i ran out of propranolol because it hadn't arrived from the mail order pharmacy and the akathisia came back so I know two things... I still have it and propranolol stops it.
Avatar f tn ok so the past few weeks ive been having extreme anxiety, tingling in fingers, arm pain, back and chest pain on and off (pressure, sharp pains, anything you can think of i've felt it), panic attacks. saw a cardiologist on tuesday, said i had a normal echo. last year and nothing would drastically change within a year, and normal ekgs and holter monitor recently. he also prescribed me propranolol , which i'm terrified to take because it drops BP and your heart rate.
Avatar f tn I got my period on 2 may this month and it was very light like a red/brownish and only lasted 2 days approximately and my periods normally last up to 5-6 days and are quite heavy. 2 weeks later I have come back on again this time seems normal I'm quite heavy. Has anyone else had this problem or similar and would you say it's something to worry about I just want to talk to people with the same situation so I feel comfortable and can kinda put my mind at rest a little.
Avatar f tn I ran out of Arthrotec last week, which I take for joint pain/swelling, and discovered yesterday that I had one pill left...so I took it, because I had a lot of writing to do for a final exam and didn't want my hands to be killing me all the while...and when I got back from the exam, I noticed that it was even harder to breathe and swallow than it normally is, I had turned very yellow (especially my face and feet), and I had a light-red rash on my arms, chest, and upper thighs.
Avatar n tn I also take the Propranolol twice a day for my heart. The Propranolol was prescribed for my heart and never for anything else. Now I am currently taking Propranolol in the morning along with Paxil, at night I take Propranolol again. I take the Klonopin is taken as needed twice a day.
667913 tn?1242700488 Beta blockers are the most commonly prescribed preventive treatment for migraine and are considered very effective. Propranolol is the most widely used beta blocker for migraine. Some of the older beta blockers like Atenolol and Metoprolol have been assocated with weight gain. Topamax is anticonvulsant drug but also a widely used migraine preventive medication. It does take some time to show its effect. Topamax causes weight loss. Other options include Methysergide and Depakote.
Avatar f tn In the end, NOTHING could control the levels and I had RAI and TT in 2008.
Avatar n tn Usually, propranolol (beta blocker) is suggested for prophylactic treatment of migraine. Acute or prompt treatment require over the counter pain killers and triptans. Avoiding the triggering factors of cluster headache might help you in order to prevent its recurrence. Hope it helps.
