Avatar m tn Does anyone know how propranolol effects exercise? I do triathlon and train using a heart rate monitor. I am wondering if I would be able to progress athletically given my heart rate would be lowered substantially?
Avatar f tn I read that too much potassium doesn’t work well while on propranolol because while on it the body does not excrete potassium as normally and you can get levels that are too high. Could this be the cause or is there an adjustment period while taking propranolol? I’ve been drinking pomegranate juice and cherry juice, 4 oz of each, with breakfast this past week. These are very high in potassium. Something is making me feel very strange and I’m hoping it wears off.
Avatar n tn As Per pubmed The effects of diltiazem hydrochloride, a vasodilator often used to treat hypertension, and beta-blockers (pindolol and propranolol hydrochloride) on lipid metabolism and carbohydrate metabolism were assessed by measuring serum levels of total cholesterol, high-density-lipoproteins (HDL)-cholesterol, triglycerides, and glucose in patients taking these drugs for three months.
Avatar m tn Hey guys, I was recently told I have SVT and have some questions as I've never heard of this before. Before I get into the questions I should tell you my story: I'm 22 years old and the past 4 months for me have been awful. It all started when I felt my heart skip a beat in early june. Immediately after it happened I lost my breath and my heart started racing. I got really bad anxiety and had a panic attack.
1475202 tn?1536270977 However reduction in portal hypertension is possible through the use of nonselective beta blockers, particularly propranolol and Nadolol. These medications reduce portal pressures both by decreasing cardiac output and by producing splanchnic vasoconstriction. Several studies have shown that nonselective beta blockers decrease the risk for first variceal hemorrhage by 40% to 50% when compared to patients taking placebo.
Avatar m tn re taking Propanolol and there does seem to be some benefit with moderate exercise. Intuitively it would seem that strenuous exercise is not a wise thing to do if you have banded esophageal varices. "In summary, the results of the present study strongly suggest that propranolol therapy adequately protects from the deleterious effects of a moderate physical exercise on portal hemodynamics in cirrhosis.
Avatar f tn I have a history of migraines for about twenty years. I quit smoking 7 months ago, and started propranolol 20 mg once a day. I gained 30 pounds. My whole body is sore and Im having episodes where my upper body and sometimes legs just feel so heavy and tired I feel like Im going to pass out. Had a Head CT, Head and Neck CTA, CBC, EKG all were normal. Is it related to migraine? ER doctor said it is anxiety. Oh I stopped celexa five months ago because I was extremely fatigued.
Avatar f tn Usually before exercise (as my heart rate got a little high during exercise when I was nervous, and I got palpitations) or when being stressed because it had a great effect preventing panic. My panic attacks stopped completely when taking propranolol, and I never had a racing heart. So, propranolol has often great effect on the fight/flight response. What it doesn't work against (at least not in my case), is that nagging, uncertainty-like kind of anxiety.
Avatar n tn I read Sertraline reacts with Propranolol. It makes Propranolol more toxic and can give me low BP and bradycardia. Recently my BP was a bit high (140/90) and pulse rate was 72. Shall I take the psychiatric medicines and how should I schedule the medications without suffering a lot?
1258608 tn?1269552597 Take plenty of fish oil and b complex , exercise! Get a healthy diet. Better yet talk to your doc. MAybe he needs to adjust or change youer meds.
1124887 tn?1313754891 I am already treated with a low dose metoprolol (25 mg) which I assume would lower the blood pressure to some degree. And when I am really stressed I add 5-10 mg or propranolol. My cardiologist gave me both, and he did not care which one of them I used, as long as I did not take more than 100 mg of metoprolol or 160 mg of propranolol. But I tend to get bradycardia if I take more than 25 + 10 mg and it triggers more PACs so I try to be careful. My resting heart rate is 50.
290624 tn?1202328875 I was told to expect some racing and weird beats post-ablation and to take it easy on the exercise for one week but that's because of the incision site. I did light exercise two days after the ablation and was running a week later. Your heart has been irritated and needs time to heal so a few irregularities is pretty normal.
Avatar f tn At this time my blood pressure was at a healthy level and I was not experiencing tachycardia without reason (ie exercise). The last time my blood pressure was recorded as healthy was in December. Not long after, on new years day, my father suffered a stroke* (albeit a minor one). This, in conjunction with the separation, was quite hard on me. At this time my sister began living at my mother's, as I remained with my father.
Avatar f tn s (every other beat) for about 9 hours a day and I too have the exercise problem, my doc says that I should try to start out slowly. I have been using my Wii to play games to keep the weight off, nothing strenuous. I have been out of work on disability for almost 11 months and I have not gained any weight.
Avatar m tn So I was put on amlodipine 10mg and Propranolol 40mg on 1st July 2016. This helped lower my blood pressure to around 115/68. Only problem is that it makes me feel quite tired after little activity like walking. After complaining about this tiredness to the doctor yesterday, he changed my drugs to 100mg Losartan (1 tablet per day) and 25mg Atenolol (2 tablets per day).
Avatar m tn I just had a follow up with my psych doc and asked her about the hot feeling and sweating and she said it definitely can be from the Zoloft and also from excess underlying anxiety.
220028 tn?1301336634 so stopped and look my blood pressure(and pulse at this time) and my blood pressure actually fell. It went down to 89/61... then about 5 mins after stopping exercise rose back up to like 112/71.. I am on a beta blocker( 12.5mg metoprolol ).. should this not keep my pulse lower then what it got up to(and this was like less then a min..)? Does the beta blocker lower bp during exercise, or rather is suppose to? I thought it was odd..
3122467 tn?1342138836 To deal with it, I take a beta blocker, propranolol, and it works beautifully. Not only does it take care of the akathisia it also treats anxiety. Once i ran out of propranolol because it hadn't arrived from the mail order pharmacy and the akathisia came back so I know two things... I still have it and propranolol stops it.
Avatar m tn The fact that your blood pressure drops (and hence heart rate increases) after exercise is caused by dilation of blood vessels during and after exercise, and is normal and common. It follows the same (or rather reversed) mechanism as described above. Your pressure sensors notice that your blood pressure is low and speeds up the heart to compensate.
Avatar m tn I do think that I experience a lot of stress as a result. My exercise regime has been lacking as of late, and I should pick up regular exercise (and am slowly doing so). My diet is perfect (I avoid sugars and salts) and I don't drink or smoke. Here's my background: I have had high blood pressure readings at the doctor since about the age of 16. I did an ECG many years ago that came out clear.
Avatar f tn If so, what measures can I take? Can’t take NSAIDS. I take Tylenol 8 hr once a day. Drink cherry juice, exercise on a bike and drink lots of water. I use magnesium chloride pain cream too. I’m 74. I take propranolol 10mg 2X a day & olanzapine 2.5 once a day. I have also been under Extreme financial stress. Could my problem be cortisol from stress? Could that be what is making me hurt not just in my joints but muscles also? Your wisdom will be appreciated!
Avatar f tn I got my period on 2 may this month and it was very light like a red/brownish and only lasted 2 days approximately and my periods normally last up to 5-6 days and are quite heavy. 2 weeks later I have come back on again this time seems normal I'm quite heavy. Has anyone else had this problem or similar and would you say it's something to worry about I just want to talk to people with the same situation so I feel comfortable and can kinda put my mind at rest a little.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with PSVTs 5 years ago at age 35. I take 10mg of propranolol daily and it has worked just fine to keep the arrhythmia at bay. Lately I have been trying to run a little faster when I exercise, and I am wondering if a medication adjustment might be in order. I am not trying to do anything crazy; I just want to run a 5K in less than 30 minutes. About 20 minutes in, my heartrate gets to the high 170s.
Avatar f tn re not also busy diagnosing and treating the flu and heart problems and body pain etc. So theoretically they become much more expert in it and the interactions between drugs and things like quitting smoking and also in the appropriate drugs to prescribe for a certain condition. Beta blockers, for example, have only been found effective for social anxiety, which doesn't mean they don't work for some people for other things but that's not their main use in anxiety treatment.
612551 tn?1450022175 This morning it was pushing a bit high and now at 9 AM after two cups of regular coffee, some physical exercise, walk and work on a deck for painting...sitting now for 20 minutes my HR is low 89s, pretty good. I'll continue with one a day and continue to monitor. I use a finger Oximeter to measure my HR and my oxygen saturation, purchased this about a year ago to help identify obstructive sleep apnea.
Avatar n tn I also take the Propranolol twice a day for my heart. The Propranolol was prescribed for my heart and never for anything else. Now I am currently taking Propranolol in the morning along with Paxil, at night I take Propranolol again. I take the Klonopin is taken as needed twice a day.
