Premarin and breast cancer risk

Common Questions and Answers about Premarin and breast cancer risk

premarin

Avatar f tn The thought today is NOT to take it at all or if absolutely necessary the lowest dose for the shortest length of time. It does increase your risk of developing breast cancer and most Dr.s choose NOT to prescribe at all. I would have a serious discussion with your Dr. about this if I were you. Regards .....
Avatar f tn I had complete hysterectomy at age 24 and went on HRT till the age of 50. I never gave birth to children. Had 7 misscarriages. Have fibrocystic breast. Had reg mammograms for 22 yrs. Although 3 yrs went by before my dr and I realized it was time. I had my mammogram 2 days ago and they called me this morning setting me up next week for spotcompression, sonogram and told me not to worry! Sorry a little late for that. Estrogen only, ( premarin 1.25 for 8 yrs) then 2.
Avatar f tn I have called the radiology group that I always go to and ordered the last 2 mammos, spot and ultrasound to take to the breast specialist. Is that enough info?
Avatar m tn I took the 1/2 pill with great caution as my mom took premarin for many years and ended up with breast cancer which eventually took her life 5 years ago). I have been tortured since stopping my premarin regime. I don't think I have had a full nights sleep since - in fact last evening the first wake up was at 3:38 and then I had 5 more flashes before I finally got out of bed and started my day with more flashes. My gen practioner has suggested prozac ... sorry but that seems a bit severe.
771665 tn?1235155092 My ovarian oncologist wanted to give me the estrogen as he said my reduced brain function was the worst he had seen. However my breast cancer oncologist wanted to make sure it didn't impact on my previous ER+ breast cancer so she suggested also giving me the Tamoxifen as well. Both of these oncologists work together. I don't now if my ovarian is also ER+ but if it is, this was rather is stupid thing to do, giving me estrogen.
Avatar f tn He did not prescribe any type of progesterone for me to take but told me to go ahead and take the Premarin. Advised me that I should see a gyn--which I already did and they did not test my hormones at all. I have terrible hot flashes every day, insomnia, anxiety and mood changes. All of which I thought was monopause. I don't know what to do. I am so scared and confused. I had an echocardigram done and the cardiologist said there were some abnormalities.
691935 tn?1421027090 Well, that stinks. Sorry this is such a hard adjustment for you. Does your doctor have any supplementation ideas? You don't want cancer . . . so if the risk increases greatly, that is reason to get off the premarin but I'm sure your body is craving the hormone! Hope you are doing okay. Oh, and I have ringing and the sound issue in my ears from time to time. I have inner ear tube dysfunction. I've had it long before menopause and my hormonal issues.
Avatar n tn Thank you for your reply. I guess the possibility of the mass being an ovary bothers me because I am BRCA II positive and am at high risk of ovarian and breast cancer. I don't think I am worried about it being cancer because a recent ultrasound showed the mass was smaller and doctors have assured me that it is not cancer. If I have a retained ovary and I am 51 years old, wouldn't the ovary be producing less estrogen at times/some months?
Avatar f tn Most reports say that estrogen alone does not cause breast cancer, but if one does get the cancer, the estrogen feeds it and makes it grow faster. Guess that is what happened to me. My cancer showed up between yearly mammograms. It was aggressive lobular, 5 CM , 14 nodes positive, making it stage 3. I am in treatment now (Chemo) and doing fine. After my mastectomy---All my tests, xrays, scans, showed no cancer there. I hope you do well also. Hang in There!
2176548 tn?1340677817 Anyone who has been on Lupron, Premarin and Medroxy ever experience sore breasts and increase in breast size? My boobs have gotten bigger and are like constantly sore!!! Hurts to take off my bra!! Please help!!!
771665 tn?1235155092 partial mastectomy, 24/35 lymph nodes removed and all clear except cancer in entranceway to 1st lymph node I had chemo, radiation, and then Tamoxifen for 5 yrs. In Dec 2007 diagnosed (totally separate) ovarian cancer; stage 3, aggressive clear celled, totally hysterectomy, fatty curtain removed, specks (1/2 size grain of rice) in right diaphram. In Dec 2007 CA125 count was 874. I had two 2 types/chemo via I.V.
Avatar n tn I am 73 years old I can feel the lump on the bottom of my right breast. It feels hard and kind of like a chord I discovered this 3 weeks ago. I had a breast exam 3 months ago and nothing was felt. based on the size could it be this was caught early? I also have been taking premarin for many years. My questions are how likely is this to be cancer. could it be a fibroid tumor or is that unlikely? Should I start lining up a oncologist what should I expect?
Avatar f tn I am scheduled to have a hysterectomy soon. The doctor wants to take my ovaries. My mom and both of her sisters have had hysterectomy's. My mother and 1 aunt had early onset of Alzheimers. both took premarin. I have read and studied that HRT's like premarin have a high risk of dementia and heart disease? since my dad had heart disease and most of his siblings and family have had heart problems I am worried. I have Endometrosis and also prolapsed Uteris.
Avatar f tn Women with complete hystos do need paps for what u've described can and does happen!I've had high risk HPV cryo, colps and LEEP but have all my plumbing.Google these topics for complete description of procedure.I have NO idea what the Premarin cream will do and hope someone jumps in here whose had similiar to help u!
Avatar n tn The Premarin (conjugated estrogen tablets) you were taking did not cause your breast cancer, but could have provided an added stimulus for the growth of your cancer.
Avatar n tn With my family history (Mom having had Leukemia twice, breast cancer and melanoma, 2 of her sisters having cancer - 1 breast, 1 lung, her Dad having died of bone cancer and my brother dying of kidney cancer) they are concerned on what they will find when they get in there and feel that more surgeries may be needed in the future.
Avatar f tn ve been on and off of Premarin and Estradial since that time. From the beginning I was warned by my physician of the possiblity of breast cancer associated with estrogen, especially since I was so young when I started taking it. During an annual visit, the nurse practicioner felt a lump in my breast and scheduled me for a digital mammogram . After reviewing the images, the radiologist suggested an ultrasound.
Avatar n tn 4cm which makes you low risk for endometrial hyperplasia and uterine / endometrial cancer. And just to help ease your mind, if you would have abnormal cells (endometrial hyperplasia), it can take years for it to develop into cancer. As far as the fibroids, they are extremely common and typically do not require any intervention. And yours are tiny so I wouldn't see why they would need to be addressed. Did you end up having the endometrial biopsy?
681148 tn?1437661591 My cousins are related through both sets of parents, so my risk is the same as theirs is of developing this rare form of breast cancer. They are more closely related than ordinary first cousins, since they are double first cousins. The symptoms I've had myself recently had me frightened. I'm glad I had the mammogram, so my anxiety level is greatly reduced now that I know nothing abnormal showed up in the test.
Avatar f tn I was suppose to go for exporitory surgery for the mass that was found on my right ovary but they found it to be cancer and opted, with my consent, to do a total hysterectomy. My doctor, who is a OB/GYN, preformed the surgery and after placed me on Premarin. I was worried after finding out all the health issues around premerin, especially the blood clots, since my mom died of that several years after her hysterectomy.
414018 tn?1268611672 Hi, just wondering if anyone on here as had to go through a medical menopause in order to stop the production of estrogens which is what some breast and ovarian cancers feed off? I started one using a nasal spray at the start of teh year but did not last the month as it literally sent me crazy. Due to an increase in my ca125 i now have to start it again trying a tablet instead. Any experiences shared would be greatly appreciated.
1514006 tn?1290398635 t want to say anything because my boyfriend lost his wife to breast cancer. He brushes off my MS symptoms and calls me lazy and always in pain SOMEWHERE, and there are people alot worse off than me. Maybe he's right, but I'm a little scared.
476359 tn?1207838908 I had been reading past comments (not sure if it was this sight) about a rare, very aggressive, very resistant breast cancer that has no lumps but is in a sheet, and causes a burning sensation in one or both breasts. I was starting to think that all of the vitamins, low fat foods, broccoli, apples, etc. was for naught. Thanks for allaying my fears!! Also, thanks for the idea to take away the pain. I was trying cold compresses, but it wasn't helping. I'll try heat.
Avatar n tn I was told it was safe to take premarin and then move over to estrodial (which is a bioidentical hormone). I was stage 1A.....I have since developed what they think is an ovarian remnant cyst that could have very well been brought on by the HRT - estrogen causing it to grow. I have also been told to stay away from the over the counter remedies, as soy, black cohash, etc can mimic estrogen. There is a connection with ovarian cancer and estrogen.
Avatar m tn s CARE) done between 1994 and 1998 showed there was no increased risk of breast cancer in current or former users of birth control pills. Two newer studies (2011) confirm that oral contraceptives are not associated with breast cancer–specific or all-cause mortality. In general, most studies have not found an overall increased risk of breast cancer due to the use of oral contraceptives.
