Prempro breast cancer

Common Questions and Answers about Prempro breast cancer

Avatar f tn My new doctor prescribed Prempro which is the synthetic version which can cause breast cancer, heart disease and a whole lot of other ugly things. I was hoping the doctor would adjust my bioidentical dosage, but instead wanted to switch me to synthetics. I am worried about OC with my family history. My Mom went through that ordeal and was very sick, but pulled through it. I pray that you and your family will do the same. It must be hard for them to know that you are sick.
Avatar f tn I read another article this morning in US News that tells that as HRT use continues to decline, the incidence of breast cancer and breast cancer precursors is declining as well. You can read the article at the following link: http://health.usnews.com/articles/health/healthday/2009/11/12/less-hrt-fewer-cases-of-possible-breast-cancer.
Avatar f tn Hi, I posted on Community, but really meant to ask my question here. I recently had a mammogram which showed findings of a cyst. I needed additional views, so I returned three days later for a second mammogram of the left breast only, and it showed a nodule. I had an ultrasound the same day which showed an 8 mm benign cyst and several other subcentimeter benign cysts, some with low internal echoes (what are internal echoes?

I've been on Prempro over 10 years and understand this could be the cause of the benign cysts.
Avatar n tn I thought the jury was out once again on whether Prempro (HRT) actually does increase the risk of breast cancer beause the study is believed by some to be flawed. The study was composed of mostly older women, who are at a higher risk. Also, I thought over the counter natural hormone remedies are not regulated by the FDA, thus they dont know if linked to breast cancer. This information might become outdated as I am writing this.
Avatar n tn My maternal grandmother died with breast cancer. I have a history of seizure disorder and on Dilantin. After 2 days of taking Prempro I decided not for me. I think I need Progesterone and would like to know if others use the cream and what brand. Or any advice appreciated. Thank- you.
Avatar f tn m not sure it is necessary to put yourself through this! And I do always worry about Breast Cancer links and supplemental hormones including and especially estrogen. There are some otc products that might help you better for hot flashes. This is all just my opinion.
Avatar n tn I have been on low dose PremPro for years and am a little worried about continuing with the breast cancer element but I am afraid to give it up and lose even more hair. I take a good vitamin, I am on thryroid, I eat right and have good lifestyle. I am afraid I will end up pitifully bald. Help?
Avatar f tn I dont know what apocrine metaplasia is, but the only findings of concern in my case was the ADH and LCIS, both of which have been found to increase the risk of invasive cancer. Good luck on your excisional.
Avatar f tn 40 is a little young to start Menopause, but not unheard of, it can happen. I started @ 49, for 1 year, I would bleed for 7 weeks, then it stop, started, did that for a year. I have not had a period for 2 yrs now. I started gaining weight a little weight in my mid section, I also got very depressed. I'm not a depressed type, always happy, not moody. I had to go on Prempro, it took 2 weeks, I was better.
Avatar n tn I am age 66. At age 50 my GYN put me on Prempro. I had no symptoms of menopause. He said that it will happen and I can prevent the discomfort of it by starting estrogen therapy. He was right, I have never had any of the things people talk about. What I am wondering, would I maybe not even had the symptoms anyway? I have been on it for 16 years now. My GYN has now prescribed a low dose, but how do I know if I even need it? I am basically healthy.
Avatar f tn I am taking Effexor XR and it has been a lifesaver for me. I am on Arimidex and was having hot flashes and was depressed after breast cancer treatment. I had been on it before and stopped taking it without any problem. I know everybody is different. It sure helped me!!!
Avatar f tn Recently the doctor changed my Prempro dosage from .45/1.5 mg per day to double that amount. Do you think the change in Prempro could change my thyroid levels? Should I request new thyroid blood tests or wait for my annual testing which comes up in 6 months?
Avatar f tn Some women choose to take prophylactic drugs if they develop atypical ductal hyperplasia, especially if their family members have a history of cancer. These drugs can help reduce the risk of breast cancer. More radically, a woman may opt for a preventative mastectomy.
Avatar n tn The good news is that it usually takes up to 10 years of uterine thickening to turn into cancer. So while cancer of the uterus is possible, most likely it won't be. But it still needs to be diagnosed and treated. Talk to your doctor about lower dosages of estrogen and progesterone that might not cause the bloating. Alternative choices are also available. Working with your doctor should end up with a good outcome for you that is both effective and comforable. Machelle M.
Avatar n tn i am 55 and i had been on birth control pills for 25 years to keep my periods regular now i went to a different Dr she told me i would not start menopause while i was taking the birth control pills so she put me on angeliq a hormone pill i started taking them and after 2 months my periods and after not having 1 for 6 months i started my period again which lasted almost a month i went back to Dr and she wants to put me on prempro i don't know if i should take the prempro or start taking my bi

237053 tn?1258828426 I heartily requested I be able to go on Prempro to my GYN. He had me do the standard hormone therapy first, then allowed the Prempro. I was on it for over ten years and I felt it was very positive for my MS not to have periods! Then came the big Prempro crash and controversy. I stayed on it anyway for several more years without insidence then the pedulum swung back and some people have resumed its use again.
Avatar f tn I have burning and itching in vaginal area and horrible dry skin that also itches. I have been told to go on Prempro by my Dr. Does it help? I still have a uterus and I am afraid of HRT after all the hype i have heard. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated that worked for all of you that have suffered with this! Thank you!!!
Avatar f tn I am 54 yrs. of age and have been period free for 8 yrs. Within the last year and a half I have been seeking treatment for horrible burning inside and out of the vaginal area. My doctor has done many tests and has said that I have vaginal atrophy (sp) and told me to use replens. She also recommended Prempro as I still have a uterus. I no longer have health insurance and can't afford the prempro and the replens DOESN"T work.
Avatar n tn It could be the prempro. Ask your doctor about going off of it for a few month and see if that helps. I heard that estrogen can cause congestion along with other medications. I too have non allergic rhinitis but mine is considered Vasomotor rhinitis.k I had this for 6 yrs. but I do not take any medication, just nasal steroid sprays and nasal rinses and it does not do anything. I even had sinus surgery - total ethmoidectomy, opening the ostia of the maxillary sinuses and partial turbinectomy.
Avatar f tn I just started prempro 4 nights ago, and my hot flashes (and subsequent clod flashed) and night seats have gotten worse, not better. I'm only (almost) 46 and was taking DHEA and Pregnenolone....and they worked well up until a couple of months ago. I up'd the dosage, and it still won't work for me anymore. I really REALLY didn't/don't want to take synthetics, but it all just became too much...nauseous too....want to cry all the time.
Avatar f tn I am currently feeling exactly as you were back in March. I just had my biopsies a week ago for two areas of microcalcification found on mammo. I have also had two prior biopsies that found fibroadenomas, slerosing adenosis and radial scar, all within the last 5 years-I'm 61. My sister died of breast cancer at age 50 in 1997 and my maternal grandmother also died of it. I have my follow up appointment Tuesday. Did you learn anything more about what I should be asking?
