The Italian study compared Pegasys with PegIntron in a prospective, randomized, open-label, single-center trial in 320 treatment-naives. Ribavirin was dosed the same for both arms: 1000 mg/day for patients 75 kg. Median HCV RNA was about 600,000 IU/ml. 66% were genotype 1 and 33-41% were genotype 2-3.
Overall SVR rate was 68% for Pegasys and 54%. For genotype 1-4, SVR was 55% for Pegasys and 40% for PegIntron.
1st dose reduction of PegIntron is to 1 mcg/kg/week, 2nd dose reduction (if needed) of PegIntron is
to 0.5 mcg/kg/week.
If platelets go down below 25,000 the standard protocol says to stop all treatment.
There is a way around the platelet issue if the center will do it. That is platelet transfusions and/or Promacta/Eltrombopag a drug that can raise platelets. But these are temporary fixes so they would be need to be done (transfusions) and taken (Promacta) over length of treatment.
Hi: Started 5th week (PegIntron, Incivek(telaprevir) and Ribavirin. Want to share some things I've learned.
Got "Sea Bands"- to help make nausea go away(just put them on, see how they do).They're simple, just accupressure, no chemicals.
By now you know you must eat w/ the Incivek; and UGH- supposed to get 20 Grams of fat at that time.. This is challenging for me, got ginger snaps & cream cheese- Also noticing that pot pies(chicken pot pie by Banquet or Marie Callender.
An interferon without all the side effects of Pegusus or Pegintron. Looks very interesting. I am thinking about participating.

You had a low starting VL and I'm not surprised that your doctor was so enthusiastic at your rapid response. He won't have to watch you suffer for so long. I also recently read the Rebetol label Bill is referring to and if it's on the label, it must be a good recommendation. Drug companies have to prove everything to get the FDA label language changed. Your doctor's opinion at 24 weeks is more important than any other opinion.
s how most of us see it), Pegasys is not weight based, whereas Pegintron is. If one is overweight, Pegintron seems to be the way to go. Talk to your Dr. I switched from a gastro to a hepatologist in my 6th week of tx. My hep dr. told me (a little late) that he would have started me on Pegintron due to my weight. Something to consider and hopefully others will back this up with data.

In a 28-week treatment regimen in which patients received 4 weeks of PEGINTRON(TM) (peginterferon alfa-2b) and REBETOL(R) (ribavirin, USP) prior to the addition of boceprevir (800 mg TID), the rate of sustained virological response at 12 weeks after the end of treatment (SVR 12) was 57 percent (ITT).
My doctor switched me to 80 mcg Pegintron wirh same dose of Riba. Can someone please tell me if its OK for me (in terms of chances of achieving SVR) or advise something better?Thanks.

Among subjects with detectable HCV-RNA at TW8 who had attained undetectable HCV-RNA at TW24 and completed at least 28 weeks of treatment, the SVR rates were 66% (45/68) in VICTRELIS-RGT arm (4 weeks of PegIntron and REBETOL then 24 weeks of VICTRELIS with PegIntron and REBETOL followed by 20 weeks of PegIntron and REBETOL alone) and 75% (55/73) in VICTRELIS-PR48 arms (4 weeks of PegIntron and REBETOL then 44 weeks of VICTRELIS with PegIntron and REBETOL).
