Dave, I treated rather aggressively I believe; my formally assigned Pegintron dosage was 150 µg/week or roughly 1.5 µg/kg/week. However, with my doctor’s tacit approval I increased that by injecting the entire vial as I drew it up; perhaps as much as ~204 µg/week.
I imagine pcds is using Pegasys if her dosage is 180 µg/week? I think Pegasys is a ‘one size fits all’ injection.
I am on my 4th week of pegintron(80mcg)/ribavirin 800mg.....i have hep c 1b and weigh 54kgs,
i have doubt that my doseis sufficient to attain an svr in 8wks time.........
they use different interferons than we do and im trying
to compare their dosage level and side effect level to ours. one study i looked at said that a dose of 30 micrograms/week of IM interferon beta-1a was well tolerated but a dose of 60 micrograms/week caused severe flulike symptoms and elevated liver enzymes. im assuming that this type is similar to infergen, really strong.
it seems like pegasys and pegintron dosages are somewhat similar.
My doctor switched me to 80 mcg Pegintron wirh same dose of Riba. Can someone please tell me if its OK for me (in terms of chances of achieving SVR) or advise something better?Thanks.
I wanted to see how many are on this form of peg and to see what dosage you've been prescribed and your body weight?
Unless I'm mistaken and triple tx dosing is different than SOC, dosage is weight based.
This is why different people take different amounts.
You might ask your doctor to change your treatment protocol somehow; different type of interferon (Pegasys to Pegintron, perhaps). The last time you did the treatment were you fully compliant with meds; did you take the ribavirin and interferon on time as scheduled? It might benefit you to increase ribavirin dosage if possible, dependent on blood values.
In short, something should probably change in regards to your medication to expect a different outcome the second treatment.

While logic might lead one to assume that a dosage customized for each individual would deliver safer and more effective results, the data does not completely support this view. The conflicting evidence already in existence clearly indicates that more adequately funded, large, impartial, well-designed studies comparing the two pegylated interferons are needed.
you are 67 kilos and your dose should be 1000 riba if you taking pegintron. If you are on pegasys I believe the program is different.
Your hgb is not low enough to be concerned, if it goes under 10 then you should be given procrit rather then a dose reduction to keep the level between 10-11 hgb. I believe that the recommended weight based dosage for riba is 12 mg per kilo, at 800 you are at 11.94 per kilo, at 1000 you are at 14.

I read your post from Feb 7th regarding no difference between Pegintron vs Pegasys saying that both meds can cause Zero viral load, but people that were on pegintron usually had worse side effects and ended up stopping treatment after 12 weeks due to safety reasons.
