Avatar n tn I am 6' and weigh 200lbs. Doctors are stumped. Does anyone have any experience with symptoms of pancreatic cancer?
Avatar n tn Hi, From the research I have done, the chances are greater of you getting Diabetes Mellitus, pancreatic tumors, pancreatic cancer, cystic fibrosis, if you have been diagnosed with and have chronic pancreatitis. The symptoms of pancreatic cancer are similar to that of chronic pancreatitis except with jaundice (yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes) and dramatic weight loss. Go to your favorite search engine and type in Pancreatic cancer and it should bring up some useful sites.
Avatar n tn The endoscopy found mild gastritis. All other test are normal. The pancreatic specialist did not mention pancreatitis at the time and only prescribed nexium and sulcrafate for the gastritis. I am 67, and never had a previous bout with pancreatitis. Moderate beer drinker. How should I be treated?
Avatar f tn The only other test Ive had is a hida scan for the gb and it was abnormal, but not the cause of the pain. Anyone out there with insight?
Avatar n tn 1) It is possible for an enlarged spleen to cause some of the symptoms you describe. 2) Pancreatic cancer can be difficult to diagnose. A negative CT scan would make it less likely. Further testing can be done with an MRI or endoscopic ultrasound. 3) Cannot answer that without evaluation. Further imaging of the pancreas can be done with the aforementioned studies. If negative, pancreatic disease is extremely unlikely.
Avatar f tn They found through an abdominal ultra sound the tail is enlarged. I have a family history of pancreatic cancer. They request I do further testing. Is pancreatitis something you can get rid of or is it something that kind of hangs around and "flares up"?
Avatar f tn My chocolate lab "Skip" is about 10 years old and developed pancreatitis for the first time. We took him to the doctor he never vomited or diahrea until the day after he got to the vets office. His amalyse was high like 8000 and his glucose and white blood count low but we got an ultrasound to make sure not cancer. He started to show improvements with the IV and antibiotic. Now a week later he is starting to decline and the vet has tried everything.
Avatar n tn _floatind stool - Abdominal pain: - Back pain - Loss of appetite - Gastric reflux - Nausea _bloating Thank you
Avatar n tn This can evaluate for chronic pancreatitis, as well as possible masses or cancer of the organ. If inconclusive, a blood test for celiac disease can be performed, as well as an endoscopic ultrasound or ERCP. If cystic fibrosis is suspected, it likely would have presented earlier on in life. I would consider gene testing if that is a consideration. These options can be discussed with your personal physician.
Avatar m tn The fact that you are already experiencing various symptoms, without any evidence of a pancreatic mass makes the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer unlikely. The prevalence of pancreatic cancer at your age group is also quite low, so I really doubt that you have this condition.
Avatar m tn I have my CT scan tomorrow but won't have the results until Tuesday. Still nervous as heck about pancreatic cancer possibility until then. Is there any significance that this all started one morning when I woke up and my side hurt. Over the next few days I couldn't lay on that side but it has just got progressively better over a few weeks. I can now sleep on that side or any other way and the pain has got better. Do gallbladder problems tend to be hereditary?
Avatar n tn i was wondering if i can get some advice i read pancreatic cancer is a silent illness, i am 31 year ol from uk, i have had diahrrea most of my life and stomach pains. pale stools,(having a colon scopy done soon for this) i have been a smoker and a drinker too. few months ago, i became very weal dizzy and ill. still am, i am, i keep getting hypoglycemia symptoms, brainfog, i did faint once was taken to emergency hospital.
Avatar f tn I swear, I am now at the end of my fatty stool tether! I am absolutely scared stiff that I have pancreatic cancer, but due to my age (36), the doctor doesn't seem to be taking this seriously. Family history : dad had stomach cancer at 38 and mum had bowel cancer at 48. Today I asked to be referred privately for an mri of my pancreas, but he thinks I should see a GI instead (again!!). The NHS takes ages to get anything done. I waited nearly 6 months for my gastroscopy and colonoscopy!
Avatar n tn --- dark urine sign of jaundice -- poss symptomatic back pain -- possible enlarged head of pancreas -- terrible history of colon cancer in her family, which I understand can be a genetic cousin to pancreatic genetic proclivity -- one episode of vomiting a few weeks back Signs that are encouraging: -- pain was not in the center of abdomen and back -- no yellowing or signs of jaundice besides dark urine -- no bilirem (sp) in blood test -- no tumor/mass noted in ultra sound -- no ultras
Avatar n tn Early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer is difficult because the symptoms are non-specific and varied. Smoking and old age are definite risk factors. What is seen in your case probably is a mass in the pancreatic tail which is measuring 3.5cm as per your report. Also noted is increased density in the surrounding fat which is suggesting surrounding spread. Radiologically, undefined borders also indicate surrounding spread.
Avatar n tn Other causes of a pancreatic mass other than cancer can include a cyst, pseudocyst, infection or pancreatitis. I agree with the MRI to further evaluate for a cause. An endoscopic ultrasound may also help rule out cancer. These options can be discussed with her personal physician, or in conjunction with a GI doctor. Avatar n tn Have you had any symptoms like nausea, or pain? One of the first signs of cancer is weight loss because your body can't digest calories correctly. I lost 45 pounds during my illness. The fact that you haven't is a good sign that it is just a cyst. Reaccuring pancreatitis can increase your chance of cancer. Did your doctor do a CA-19-9 test?
Avatar m tn Or in some cases the common bile duct can spasm and that can result in a backup of bile and pancreatic fluids and that is result in pancreatitis. I know your both probably worried about money, but at the very least he should get his liver and pancreatic enzyme levels checked. If the pancreatic enyme levels are high, he may have to consider seeing a doc. I hate to say that, but believe me you do not want his pancreas impacted in any adverse manner.
Avatar f tn Are you on any replacement enzymes when you eat? Some of your symptoms sound like malabsorption from pancreatic insufficiency. Have you have any recent imaging - specifically an MRCP or endoscopic ultrasound? What is the time scale of the procedures that you had? What portion of your stomach was removed?
Avatar n tn My doctors at first thought it was cancer, and rushed me to a pancreatic cancer specialist in Seattle. I had 2 ERCPs done, but they just showed nacrotic cells. Because this disease is SOOOO rare in the US they didn't know at first what I had, but they didn't want to take any chances with me so they scheduled me for surgery. My Gastro dr did some research, ran an IGg4 and asked me to wait 2 weeks and started me on steriods.
Avatar n tn Also, my mother died from pancreatitis and liver disease which led to pancreatic cancer. There was an onset of other symptoms around the same time this started. I don't know if it is related but I will give you all the info in hope of it helping. Peripheral neuropathy. The saddle and perineal anesthesia went away but I still have pins and needles in bilteral legs and feet. Adrenal mass, extra-renal pelvis found on tests. Also during the midst of all of this I began having trouble swollowing.
Avatar m tn First, remember I'm not a doctor. However, pancreatic cancer is someone your age is almost unheard of. Does pancreatitis or gallbladder issues run in your family? Generally, if there is a serious problem with the pancreas, all your liver enzymes would be off the charts. I would ask for an abdominal CT which will give a better view of the pancreas. The elevated bilirubin definitely could be Gilbert's Syndrome which can cause jaundice when fighting off an infection or when stressed out.
Avatar n tn If pancreatic cancer is your concern, a Ca19-9 test can be done to check for this, but you don't appear to have all the symptoms, which I've pasted below. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PANCREATIC CANCER INCIDENCE Pancreatic cancer is now the fifth leading cause of cancer in the United States for both sexes and appears to be increasing in number, as the population grows older.
Avatar n tn I had my Gall bladder out in 3/99, right after that the symptoms of IBS began which I was disgnosed with in 2/00. I was also disgnosed with Diabetes in 1997 (A1C 6.0-6.3 2003). In 10/02 I asked to be put on an anti-drepressent(effexor)(not for IBS). 12/02 I started getting nauseated every day with upper abdominal pain, this has now gone on for over a year. While I was on the effexor I did not have any of the IBS symptoms, I went off the effexor in 11/03. 1/03 Pelvic ultrasound normal.
Avatar f tn by lymphoproliferative disease such as lymphoma or histiocytosis; by pancreatitis or pancreatic cancer; by sarcoidosis with cutaneous involvement (seen in up to 20 percent) and by many other causes. And lists causes of erythema nodosum In about 30-50% of cases, the cause of EN is unknown. EN may be associated with a wide variety of diseases, including infections (e.g.
Avatar n tn From everything I have read about tumors of the pancreas, the prognosis is grim. If this is cancer, why has he not had other symptoms, and why has it not changed size? My question is what could this mass be? If it was cancer, would it have changed size in any way over the course of 4 years? Should we have the mass needle-biopsied via endoscopic ultrasound? I believe my dad should have the mass removed regardless of what it may be. What will the surgery entail?
Avatar n tn Unfortunately, the drs haven't ruled anything out at this point - really frustrating!!! at one point my stupid gastro told me i *might* have pancreatic cancer!! and then it was pancreatitis!! both were totally wrong. and then i was dx with IBS. do yourself a favor, get a good dr who is well versed in diagnostics. i've wasted thousands of dollars and i still don't know what's wrong with me.
Avatar n tn However, my Amylase continues to be elevated and I am concerned, as is my doctor, about chronic pancreatitis leading to pancreatic cancer. I do not drink Alcohol and have not for 20 years. Can you offer any ideas for cause of the pancreatic enzyme elevation and treatments?
Avatar f tn This causes the enzymes to irritate the cells of your pancreas, causing inflammation and the signs and symptoms associated with pancreatitis. With repeated bouts of acute pancreatitis, damage to the pancreas can occur and lead to chronic pancreatitis. Scar tissue may form in the pancreas, causing loss of function. A poorly functioning pancreas can cause digestion problems and diabetes.
