Avatar f tn My chocolate lab "Skip" is about 10 years old and developed pancreatitis for the first time. We took him to the doctor he never vomited or diahrea until the day after he got to the vets office. His amalyse was high like 8000 and his glucose and white blood count low but we got an ultrasound to make sure not cancer. He started to show improvements with the IV and antibiotic. Now a week later he is starting to decline and the vet has tried everything.
Avatar n tn I am wondering if there is a correlation between removal of the gallbladder and the pancreatic cancer? I am not certain of what would predispose him to this cancer. Is it possible that removal of the gallbaladder stimulated caner cells in the pancreas? We are taking him to a surgeon to decide if the tumor is resectable. I am just not sure if at his age and with a heart that has undergone bypass surgery, he can handle surgery. Do you have any thoughts on the causes of this cancer?
Avatar n tn This can evaluate for chronic pancreatitis, as well as possible masses or cancer of the organ. If inconclusive, a blood test for celiac disease can be performed, as well as an endoscopic ultrasound or ERCP. If cystic fibrosis is suspected, it likely would have presented earlier on in life. I would consider gene testing if that is a consideration. These options can be discussed with your personal physician.
Avatar m tn The fact that you are already experiencing various symptoms, without any evidence of a pancreatic mass makes the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer unlikely. The prevalence of pancreatic cancer at your age group is also quite low, so I really doubt that you have this condition.
Avatar m tn I have my CT scan tomorrow but won't have the results until Tuesday. Still nervous as heck about pancreatic cancer possibility until then. Is there any significance that this all started one morning when I woke up and my side hurt. Over the next few days I couldn't lay on that side but it has just got progressively better over a few weeks. I can now sleep on that side or any other way and the pain has got better. Avatar f tn I swear, I am now at the end of my fatty stool tether! I am absolutely scared stiff that I have pancreatic cancer, but due to my age (36), the doctor doesn't seem to be taking this seriously. Family history : dad had stomach cancer at 38 and mum had bowel cancer at 48. Today I asked to be referred privately for an mri of my pancreas, but he thinks I should see a GI instead (again!!). The NHS takes ages to get anything done. I waited nearly 6 months for my gastroscopy and colonoscopy!

Avatar n tn Early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer is difficult because the symptoms are non-specific and varied. Smoking and old age are definite risk factors. What is seen in your case probably is a mass in the pancreatic tail which is measuring 3.5cm as per your report. Also noted is increased density in the surrounding fat which is suggesting surrounding spread. Radiologically, undefined borders also indicate surrounding spread.
Avatar m tn Hi! Do not worry so much about it. I do not think that you have a pancreatic cancer (your tests would show this, especially MRCP). You just had pancreatitis. Start eating 6 times a day taking small amounts of food. You will be fine. As for me - I too was in a hospital with pancreatitis. Certainly, it is very bad thing. My lipase level was high. This usually takes days or even weeks when lipase and amulase go down. So, do not worry too much.
Avatar n tn Other causes of a pancreatic mass other than cancer can include a cyst, pseudocyst, infection or pancreatitis. I agree with the MRI to further evaluate for a cause. An endoscopic ultrasound may also help rule out cancer. These options can be discussed with her personal physician, or in conjunction with a GI doctor. Avatar n tn We are really worried given the survival rate for pancreatic cancer, and wonder what you think of what little info we have provided. Anything you could offer would be much appreciated.

Avatar f tn what are the causes of of swelling in the common bile duct (aside a post gallbladder removal, which i dont know how, but my Dr is convinced it doesnt have to do with that) and could it relate to the pancreatic insufficiency or the nodes? My pancreatic elastase test was severely low @ 48 (>200 I'd normal) is this something that would warrant going threw more testing to find out why?
1351490 tn?1276989667 In 2008 the high calcium problem reoccurred, another tumor had completely cover the second parathyroid gland, it was removed along with two large tumors from the thyroid gland, leaving two small by Dr. Norman. Avatar n tn My grndmother dies from pancreatic cancer, my father has alcoholic pancreatitis, and my sister has pancreatitis. Many DR. we have talked with say this disease is NOT hereditary but I feel that in many cases it is. My father was an alcoholic most of my life, now recovered he has this lasting effect. His pancreas is severly damaged, the DR said if he drank again it would kill him.
Avatar m tn Or in some cases the common bile duct can spasm and that can result in a backup of bile and pancreatic fluids and that is result in pancreatitis. I know your both probably worried about money, but at the very least he should get his liver and pancreatic enzyme levels checked. If the pancreatic enyme levels are high, he may have to consider seeing a doc. I hate to say that, but believe me you do not want his pancreas impacted in any adverse manner.
