Common Questions and Answers about Pancreatitis and symptoms

pancreatitis

Avatar f tn DOCTORS SAY I HAVE PANCREATITIS. HERE ARE MY SYMPTOMS: NAUSEA,VOMITING, FEVER,UPPER ABDOMITAL PAIN, AND WEAKNESSAFTER I EAT. WAT DO YOU THINK MIGHT BE WRONG?
Avatar n tn I have had acute pancreatitis and now have chronic pancreatitis, so maybe I can answer some of your questions. Some symptoms of pancreatitis include a swollen and tender abdomen, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, sometimes a fever and rapid pulse. Weight loss is frequent. The nausea, pain and vomiting often follows a meal of some sort, and can be triggered more severely by foods heavy in fats. Often there is pain in the abdomen and between the ribs at the base of the sternum.
Avatar n tn In addition, make sure your gallbladder is checked out. When the GB starts having problems it can take the 'pancreas down' and cause symptoms the doc attribute only to the pancreas. Before starting to think the worst, make sure you rule out other issues. And make sure you stick to a diet that 'agrees' with the guidelines of trying to handle pancreatitis. It can take a heck of a long time to start to feel decent.
Avatar f tn Hi, understand your concern. With pancreatitis usually the lipase and amylase values are increased many folds. And if chronic the imaging studies will usually show pancreatic fibrosis. In the absence of these findings its unlikely that you have chronic pancreatitis. The other causes for the pain could be infections of the bowel and bladder, prolapsed intervertebral disc or inflammatory diseases of the colon. So, if your symptoms persist discuss these options with your doctor. Regards.
Avatar n tn about 4 weeks ago i had to take my mom to the ER because she was suffering from severe stomachache. It turned out to be acute pancreatitis. She was admitted in the hospital and stayed there for 3 weeks. She's been out of the hospital for 2 days. I am really worried because she looks really tired and she says that she has stomach pain as if it was sored. I wanted to know if these are normal symptoms after an acute pancreatitis ?.
Avatar n tn You probably do have pancreatitis. So little is actually known about this disease. The doctors probably say it is not pancreatitis because your pancreatic enzymes are not elevated. What noone seems to realize is they may not be elevated even during a pancreatitis attack. The enzymes elevate in the bloodstream when the ducts are blocked and the enzymes cannot reach the first part of the small intestine (duodenum).
Avatar n tn Since all your lab works and imaging studies are otherwise normal and you never had any bout of pancreatitis before, a wait and watch policy is likely to be the best course of action for you. Also, the risk of surgery to pancreas is high, so since the side branch lesions are usually harmless, a wait and watch policy is adopted for most lesions less than 3 cm which do not cause dilatation of the main pancreatic duct nor have a solid mass or nodule within them.
Avatar f tn I have chronic pancreatitis and this disease is very hard to diagnose and be diagnosable with! The thing that is hard with it is, which you have experienced, your scans can look normal and blood tests also and you still have pain, nausea, fatigue and the whole pancreatitis everything! The ER will not do anything about this because nothing is showing up on any of your tests and according to the its not an "emergency" so get to a GI fast!
Avatar n tn Vet called today, said Ozzie's level are over 1'000 on lipase count and that makes it sure it is pancreatitis, che chronic version. Having had a look at internet, none of the symptoms agree with what he does. He does not, vomit, reject food, loose stool.... He is overweight, sleeps well on his side, likes his food, not too bouncy, but he is 11, had 3 leg operations due to "clicking of leg when on walk" sorry forgot the name of it.
Avatar n tn BTW, you asked in your first post if anyone had ever had pancreatitis. I wanted to clarify to you that I have had three acute pancreatitis attacks and I now have chronic pancreatitis. Swelling in my abdomen was very visible in the area affected, and that area was particularly painful to pressure. The pain was excrutiating all throughout the abdomen, behind the sternum, through to the back anyways, but any pressure on the swollen area was even more intense.
Avatar f tn (not my insurer). From their CT scan I was told I had pancreatitis, lipids and amylase where also high. I followed up with my insurance provider's GI specialist and an ultrasound, they were unable to provide me with any diagnosis..
Avatar n tn I'm not stupid, in that I know for a fact that this is what is causing and/or making my symptoms worse, but here is my question. On several occasions I have stopped drinking completely for as long as 5 or 6 days, and felt my symptoms get a little bit worse each day. Not exactly the intended plan. The only thing that seems to make this awful pain disappear in fact is having a few drinks. Why is that? Is it the "pain relieving" effect of the alcohol?
Avatar f tn My chocolate lab "Skip" is about 10 years old and developed pancreatitis for the first time. We took him to the doctor he never vomited or diahrea until the day after he got to the vets office. His amalyse was high like 8000 and his glucose and white blood count low but we got an ultrasound to make sure not cancer. He started to show improvements with the IV and antibiotic. Now a week later he is starting to decline and the vet has tried everything.
Avatar n tn About two years ago I developed chronic pancreatitis. Some people can have an acute pancreatitis attack, recover, and never have any problems again. I wasn't one of those lucky ones. The chronic pancreatitis is here to stay.
Avatar n tn Wellness Simple (salmon, not lamb) and Wellness Stews are what I feed my dog with pancreatitis. He has chronic smoldering pancreatitis and is 15 1/2 years old. He is a terrier mix but it's obvious there is schnauzer mixed in his bloodline. His lipase level was >6000 today but renal function is normal except BUN a tiny bit above normal. Creatinine was 1.7 (high end of normal). He is having normal stools and has a great appetite and is not vomiting.
Avatar n tn In November of last year I had an ERCP where they didn't find any stones in the bile duct or anything but ended up with Pancreatitis and hospitalized for 4 days and out of work several weeks. Then the pains subsided and other than having terrible Acid Reflux I didn't appear to have any problems. Then out of the blue last Friday around noon time I started getting terribly nausiated. I thought that I might be coming down with the flu.
Avatar m tn My cat was DX w pancreatitius & met all symptoms for a few weeks / the meds worked but it got bad. Then a big turn happened. He started eating & now won't stop! His constant meowing is driving me crazy.he lost weight whwhen really sick. He is still underweight but why does he demand food 24/7? I'm so stressed out I can't think straight. Upset too if his DX was wrong we spent so much $$ on labs/meds. Now I'm not sure/don't think he has it! Help.
Avatar n tn Hi, The doctor does not know what causes me to have chronic pancreatitis and SOD. It is believed I had this before I had my gallbladder out and no one thought to check for that. Also, I went on a DRASTIC diet and exercize program. Dropped 42 pounds in 2 months. But, some of that could be the pancreatitis too. I do not drink so that was never a factor. Pancreatitis can he heriditary. And also, mine may have been made worse from the gallbladder being so bad.
Avatar f tn my dog has had pancreatitis 2 times he is 8 yrs old and he hasnt shown symptoms in 2 yrs. we got a kitten over the weekend and the dog ended up eating the cat food a couple of times. now he has diahrea and i have seen a couple blood drops by the poop. Is there something i can do for him other then take him to the vet. It is the same exact symtoms as last time so i really dont need to pay a couple hunred dollars for them to tell me what i already know.
Avatar n tn This is not a question, but may be a helpful lead to those who are experiencing symptoms that sound like pancreatitis or at least, trouble with the pancreas. From my experience, doctors tend to dismiss looking further into problems with the pancreas. I'm unsure WHY. I was told that a CAT scan would find my problem, but it did not. Only when I was referred to a gastro doctor and he did an ERCP, was the problem with the pancreas found.
Avatar f tn Sorry you are in the same boat cause this boat is slowly sinking! LOL =) I called and requested copies of my tests so I could "google" what is there since his consultation was so vague. My blood sugar is high but he said no big deal. I am not a diabetic and have never had problems with my sugar.
Avatar m tn i am a 27 yr old female, with more pancreatitis attacks then i can count in the last year and a half. ive been accused of a frivilious life style which is so far from the truth. ive had every test known for this condition. in the last 2 months i was put on a protien suppliment to replace my emzymes that my pancreas produces. in the first 2 wks i lost 20 lbs, had no appetite, liquid bowel movements, dizziness, fatique, discoloring of the skin, and more symptoms i can even list.
Avatar n tn I suspect ACUTE PANCREATITIS based on both the symptoms and the physical examination. To test this I would check his serum for amylase. Does that sound right?
Avatar n tn My dog had acute pancreatitis over the weekend and I took him to an emergency vet on Sunday and to his vet on Mon. They both kept him overnight, IV, blood work, meds, and his vet did a rectal x-ray and abdominal x-ray with barium to look for obstruction. He found dirt/sand. My dog ate cat poop covered in dirt. He is at home now doing fine and I have him on a bland diet of canned white chicken and brown rice only. However, his lower abd/belly is a little distended and hard.
Avatar n tn Did the vet say an ultra-sound should be done. My dog had all the symptoms of pancreatitis - and we found out when it was too late that he had eaten a piece of rubber - and it was lodged in his intestines. It didnt show up on an x-ray ... but did when i decided to take him for an ultra-sound. Unfortunately, Willie was too weak, and passed away.
Avatar m tn Or in some cases the common bile duct can spasm and that can result in a backup of bile and pancreatic fluids and that is result in pancreatitis. I know your both probably worried about money, but at the very least he should get his liver and pancreatic enzyme levels checked. If the pancreatic enyme levels are high, he may have to consider seeing a doc. I hate to say that, but believe me you do not want his pancreas impacted in any adverse manner.
Avatar f tn I was so scared after being dx with severe pancreatitis and doc told me to either stop eating or get to hospital . I stopped eating for 4.5 days and my levels went back down to 45. 2 weeks later back up to 250 .. now I am pending a new test result. I don't have the severe ab pains that I have read about : but what I do have it back pain ..
Avatar m tn also,,,chronic pancreatitis is just that,,,chronic,,and ongoing,it only gets worse, and will continue to over the course it takes,,so i doubt thats your issue, and thats A GOOD THING.
Avatar f tn hi i have been having pain under my mid rib cage for almost all my life around 20 years ago i went to the er for the pain xrays showed my gall bladder was enlarged they admitted me that night and removed it the next morning the doctor said it was badly diseased but i still continued to have the pain my stomach doctor said i have barretts esphogus and did a nissen wrap to avoid cancer it failed and i had to have another that also failed so the third surgery was a bad one they had to remove half m
Avatar n tn In July of 2011 I became very sick. "Out of it", lethargic, sterrorhea, and one particular episode where I had an electric shock feeling in my mid abdemon for several seconds. After this moment, I felt horrible with moderate left side discomfort and generally feeling like I had the flu. Having an MRI which didn't reveal anything significant, I later went for EUS. Doctor indicated CP and life began with Creon. I have taken max levels of Creon 24K x 8/meal and sterrorhea remains.
