Avatar n tn There is marked tenderness with guarding in the midepigastrium, but no peritoneal signs. I suspect ACUTE PANCREATITIS based on both the symptoms and the physical examination. To test this I would check his serum for amylase. Does that sound right?
Avatar f tn This causes the enzymes to irritate the cells of your pancreas, causing inflammation and the signs and symptoms associated with pancreatitis. With repeated bouts of acute pancreatitis, damage to the pancreas can occur and lead to chronic pancreatitis. Scar tissue may form in the pancreas, causing loss of function. A poorly functioning pancreas can cause digestion problems and diabetes.

Avatar n tn For a little over a year, i have been experiencing what I thought was just an anxiety symptom. I will urinate and then, by the time I have wiped and am pulling my pants up, I feel like I have to go again, but nothing comes out (maybe a drop or two). I do this up to 3 times. This doesn't happen all the time, but usually about 1x day. In the fall, I began having intermittent pains in my left side that I can only describe as similar to a stitch in your side that you get after running.
902019 tn?1249865014 Usually have done well with prednisone for the various flare-ups but with AIP, still recurring symptoms and the elevated IgG4 periodically. Next step may be Imuran. Is there anyone out there who has had good results with Imuran for autoimmune pancreatitis?
Avatar n tn Other than that her symptoms go more with pancreatitis. Pain above her left ribcage that goes to her back - pain about her shoulder blades. When we saw the Dr.he had a complete blood work report in his hand and it showed raised amylase (131) and lipase levels (718) which I always thought showed pancreatitis. When I questioned him he said some people just have high levels and it is normal for them. I don't buy that.
Avatar m tn I have only two symptoms of pancreatitis and do not have nausea, headaches, jaundice, fatty stool, vomiting, constipation, low B/P, rapid heart rate, fever, sweats or an inflamed pancreas 4. The pain location minus the banding effect to my back is located directly on top of the location I had a pyloric stenosis surgery (and two consecutive repairs) 5. The pain can start immediately when I eat and at night.
Avatar f tn Usually pancreatitis can only be diagnosed with a combination of clinical signs such as vomiting, abdominal pain and fever along with a positive results for a specific blood test (probably the one your veterinarian had sent in), and confirmation with an abdominal ultrasound. In the meantime, you and your veterinarian should keep an open mind, and always ask the question, "What else can it be?", especially if your dog is not getting better.
Avatar n tn The CT interpretation calls for further investigation and describes the mass as having undefined borders and the fat tissue around it as having elevated density (not sure about the terminology, this is my poor attempt to translate from German, since the test was done in Austria). He is 65, has no other relevant symptoms as far as we can tell, but we are all very scared it might be cancer. Can you please tell me how likely that is. Thank you.
Avatar n tn also I'm concerned about her overall health as a result of such dramatic weight loss, her symptoms include profound backpain, fatty stools, nausea, vomitting, presently these symptoms are being managed with codeine contin 100mg b.i.d. and digestive enzymes. At present my mother's follow-up includes occassional follow-up by dietician, should she have bloodwork done also her blood sugars have been elevated however no followup in regards to this.
Avatar n tn from years of worrying), match up quite a bit with chronic pancreatitis. I am not experiencing weight loss or diarrhea. I'm going to call my Gastroenterologist to see if I can get squeezed in. But, naturally, I'm terrified. Can any other illnesses also come across with these symptoms? Also, medscape has those depressing mortality figures. It sounds like I'm dead meat if I have this. One article said there is no treatment yet I hear of people who end up having surgeries.
Avatar n tn Any help in identifing what might be causing my husband to have the following problems would be greatly appreciated! He presented to the ER on Sept 15th with severe epigastric pain. Lipase was 11,000 & amylase was 5,331, liver enzymes normal, glucose normal, and triglycerides normal, Other abnormal labs included RBC 3.96(L), HGB 12.0(L), HCT 34.7(L), lymphs 15.1(L), ABS monocyte 0.6(H). He was admitted with acute pancreatis. Put NPO/given IV's and pain meds and sent home in 4 days.
Avatar n tn The location of your pain sounds very much like where mine was located before my first attack of acute pancreatitis. I now have chronic pancreatitis. I also had the yellow stools, either fatty or so oily that they would float. Also had the weight loss and inability to eat. Back ache is also a common complaint, but not everyone gets it. You need a second opinion.
Avatar n tn Diagnosing pancreatitis is not straightforward since similar symptoms can be generated by other disease processes as well, and it is necessary to distinguish between these before appropriate treatment can begin. Ultrasound examination of the abdomen and identification of elevated levels of amylase and lipase (enzymes produced by the pancreas) in the mother's blood are usually sufficient to confirm the diagnosis of pancreatitis.
Avatar m tn they removed the pulip and tested it and said they did not do a clean cut and we needed a colon recession. after colon recession they sent sample to patholigest and said there is no signs of any cancer cells but some cells are to small to see so the surgery was still necessary and was not a mistake. i had problems after surgery blood clots, so they put me on blood thinner (cumanan).6 months after surgery i got pain in upper part of abdoman.
Avatar m tn He presented very reluctantly to emergency yesterday morning (after much coercing) with heart attack-like symptoms (chest pain, quick pulse, nausea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, fatigue) as well as a tender/swollen abdomen. He was seen by a Physician Assistant and once heart problems were ruled out, an abnormal lipase value suggested pancreatitis.
Avatar n tn Your words might shed a little light on something my mom talks little of. Dear emom, The most common causes of acute pancreatitis in the United States are alcoholic pancreatitis and gallstone pancreatitis. Many patients with so-called idiopathic (unknown cause) pancreatitis end up having microlithiasis (small stones or crystals in the biliary tree). There are many other causes of acute pancreatitis but they are less common.. I will list them for you.

Avatar n tn If this has been going on for years, then endoscopy should be performed (either a flex sig or colonoscopy) to evaluate whether there is inflammatory bowel or a mass that may be causing your symptoms. If those tests are negative, then irritable bowel may be the diagnosis. As for your stomach pain, causes includes dyspepsia (caused by an ulcer, GERD, or inflammation of the stomach or esophagus), gall bladder disease or pancreatitis.
Avatar f tn Many of the early symptoms of methanol poisoning are non-specific eg. headache, dizziness, malaise, generalized weakness, altered sensorium, acute mania, and paresthesias.
Avatar m tn Have you ever seen a healthy person with no immune disorders test negative at one month, then change at a later date? Are my symptoms of liver/overall abdominal pain and discomfort classic signs on acute hcv?
Avatar n tn performed an Upper GI Endoscopy w/ an ultrasound of the pancreas -- he found signs of mild pancreatitis and my stomach was inflamed. He took biopsies that ruled out Celiac disease, which a blood test has confirmed I underwent a sweat test, and Cystic Fibrosis was ruled out. The same doctor then performed a colonoscopy, and found no abnormalities (awaiting biopsy results) I have been on Ultrase -- an pancreatic enzyme -- for about a month.
Avatar n tn Has anyone that has had gallbladder problems experienced anything similiar to what I am going thru? (or does this problem sound like something else?) For the past 2 yrs I have had pain in the upper rt abd area that has varied from severe to mild. When the pain is severe I would definately describe it as "an attack". When the pain is bad I sometimes get pain under the right shoulder blade also and have a general feeling of not being well.
Avatar f tn Three years ago I was remodeling a house(tearing down walls, mouse droppings, mold, etc) and got an infection that didn't go away. The first symptoms were general flu like with an erratic pulse that would wake me at night and continued throughout the day. Since then I've not been able to breathe the same but recently it's become much worse.
Avatar n tn I'm having withdrawal symptoms I didn't expect. Light headedness, the runs, blood pressure going up, and general fatigue. Lots of fatigue. And some irritability. I am hoping that these symptoms begin to decrease soon. Well, they have gotten better than it was in the first 2 days. I am still wondering how long I can expect to have these side effects of withdrawal?
Avatar n tn My liver panel was also normal. Please, please...if anyone is experiencing the same symptoms or has in the past, I would be ever so grateful for some insight into what is wrong with me!! Thanks!
Avatar m tn I'm a 27 year old male, and have been having an increasing number of symptoms over the last 3 months. I don't know what I should do next or even if my symptoms are all caused by the same thing. Initially I had what felt like bad indigestion after eating lunch, with pain at the top of my stomach and in the left side of my chest (particularly in a small spot just inside and above my left nipple). I could feel my pulse on the left side of my chest just in the area that was hurting.
