Common Questions and Answers about Osteoarthritis in the neck

osteoarthritis

Avatar f tn I have arthritis in most of my joints, but I have more than one type of arthritis too. If you are looking for symptoms of osteoarthritis in the neck, they include pain, stiffness, tenderness, weakness, tingling or soarness in the arms, headaches and even balance problems.
Avatar n tn I grew up and throuhout that whole time since I was 12 or 13, I have been seeing chiropractor (same one) for 25 years now I think. My whole spine is osteoarthritis. My neck is the worse. My last MRI revealed two herniated disks, one pinching my spinal cord, but no one (two neurologists and one family practitioner) thinks there's anything wrong that needs surgical intervention. I have to live this way apparentally.

408795 tn?1324935675 I have extensive Osteoarthritis in my upper back and neck from an accident I was in over 20yrs ago. I had an accident and I broke my right leg and my left arm. As a result my right leg is slightly bowed and therefore around a half inch shorter than my left leg. As a result it has affected my back and neck. Lately my legs have been swelling and itching, mostly the left. I certainly feel it's all related to my right leg injury.
Avatar f tn I have osteoarthritis in my back and hips. The physiotherapist has given me exercises to help with the pain. Best thing is to keep active, if you can. Hopefully the ortho will help, and a rheumatologist, like I have seen, will help you cope with the arthritis.
Avatar n tn also i have osteoarthritis and degenerative disc throughout my spine. the surgeon who took 3 discs out of my neck told me that the osteoarthritis was congenital and he felt that the arthritis was so severe that it was grinding the discs away. i have been tested for numerous things but still have no answers.
Avatar f tn Most commonly, generalized osteoarthritis occurs in the spine, knees, hips, base of the thumb in the first CMC (carpometacarpophalangeal joint), tips of the fingers, and big toe. The wrists, elbows, and shoulders are typically not involved in generalized osteoarthritis. Other Facts About Generalized Osteoarthritis A gene defect that causes primary generalized osteoarthritis has been discovered. Generalized osteoarthritis develops spontaneously.
Avatar f tn This is the report from MRI Osteoarthritis in the left shoulder with cartilage erosion and mild joint effusion associated with osteoarthritis in the acromioclavicular joint with mild impingement over the superior surface of the left supraspinatus muscles. No ratator cuff tear or tissue retraction no muscles astrophy.
Avatar m tn The osteoarthritis may progress slowly over time. Strengthening the muscles that support the neck and cervical spine may lesson symptoms of pain and discomfort. ~•~ Dr. Parks This answer is not intended as and does not substitute for medical advice. Avatar n tn m in extreme pain in my neck and shoulder blades.. should i see a chiropractor?
Avatar n tn Although I have had 2 surgeries on my cervical spine for ruptured discs and lax ligaments (am now fused from C3-C6), I am now told that I have significant osteoarthritis at C1-C2 (atlanto-axial joint) Accupuncture did relieve a lot of the associated muscle spasms but I still get bone pain sometimes even at the base of my skull. I've also wrenched the left side of my neck twice in the past 6 weeks at work.
Avatar m tn I find it helps to wear a soft neck collar when the pain is bad. It helps your neck muscles not work so hard to stabilize your neck. The neck tension often leads to headaches. I remember my mom also used to use a home traction device that was attached to a door. The harness hooked under her chin and the back of her head, and gentle upward tension helped relieve neck pain. You can get these on the internet but i strongly advise you to check with your doctor first.
Avatar m tn Back in July 2013, I developed pain in both thumbs while playing my banjo. I had recently started new playing techniques on the banjo with both hands. I am 48 years old. I've been to a hand therapist and she believe it is some type of repetitive stress injury and since then I've only play a little and have used splints and exercises etc. I feel things have been getting better but slowly. Recently, I went to a sports medicine hand doctor and he had said I have osteoarthritis.
Avatar f tn My husband keeps getting recurrent pain in his neck. He has had to go to the ER a few times and x-rays were normal. He went to the dr. yesterday and she gave him Flexeril and Ultram but they don't seem to help the pain. Tonight I put hot, wet washrags (making them hotter slowly) and after waiting about 15 minutes, rubbed ben-gay on his neck and shoulder muscles. He says 'if I could just crack my neck, I think it would feel allot better'.
Avatar f tn But my question is could RA lead to OA - in the neck?! The chiropractor said no. My rheumy kinda mumbled it could all go together but didn't really answer.....
1422878 tn?1284584593 Have you undergone any neck injuries lately. Sometimes when people shift the discs in their back and neck the pain can radiate to one, or more of the limbs. It sounds nerve related, so a discogram may be something you should look into. I would try to identify whether or not your symptoms are trauma related. If you have reptured a disc, you will know as soon as you take the discogram, if not, I would see your GP and get an MRI. Did this condition begin when you awoke after a long night?
Avatar n tn I hurt all the time in just about every muscle , hips, legs, back, neck , shoulders, could this be muscle atrophy, or is it coming from the osteoarthritis that i have.
Avatar f tn When there are problems in the spine, nerves can be impinged and can cause problems in the arm and sometimes right down to your hand and fingers. The only way that you would know if you have osteoarthritis is if you had imagining done by way of an xray. Muscle spasms can also cause problems and a message can help to release and loosen those up. The only way to get a proper diagnosis and the appropriate treatment is to see your doctor and get the appropriate imaging and tests done.
Avatar f tn Thank you
Avatar m tn Cracking noises in joints results from either the tendon rolling over the joint or the release of a build up of gas within the joint.
Avatar f tn //www.healthline.com/health/neck-cracking#how-it-works. Is it okay to have this? Well, if you are in pain, it is best to see your doctor and to look for the underlying reason why. It also has been noted that there is an increase risk of stroke by cracking your own neck. The risk is small but real so would refrain from doing this. If it is happening with out your trying, your muscles may be tight. Your doctor may suggest medication or physical therapy to work to reduce symptoms.
Avatar f tn A less technical name for this condition is osteoarthritis of the neck, or degenerative disk disease of the neck.. The most common symptom is stiff neck which is most often one of the very first signs. Neck stiffness tends to grow progressively worse over time. Along with pain, cervical spondylosis can be accompanied by parathesias and muscle weakness in the neck, shoulders, arms and hands, and a syndrome called “numb, clumsy hands”. Dizziness may occur on neck movement .
Avatar m tn lately, for about the past two weeks, I have had a pain that is sharp in nature on the left side of my neck. Its not surface pain, but rather inside of the neck, closer to my esophagus than anything, but it feels very sharp. I have seen a chiro before about back/posture issues, but just wondering if anyone else has had this or not. Im 32 and in relatively good health.
