Avatar m tn The osteoarthritis may progress slowly over time. Strengthening the muscles that support the neck and cervical spine may lesson symptoms of pain and discomfort. ~•~ Dr. Parks This answer is not intended as and does not substitute for medical advice. Avatar n tn The pain of occipital neuralgia begins in the neck and spreads upwards to scalp, forehead, and behind the eyes. The pain is due to irritation or injury of nerves, pinching of nerves by tight neck muscles, compression of nerves as it leaves the spine secondary to osteoarthritis or tumors in the neck. Local inflammation or infection, gout, diabetes etc.
Avatar f tn I have had mild osteoarthritis in my right hand, of and on. Now I have knee pain, both knees, elbow pain, foot pain (orthotics (4 diff pairs) haven't helped). Not severe enough to take meds. Have been sleeping on a magnetic mat for 3 years. Doesn't seem to help. Have been going to osteopath, masseur, acupuncturist, nutritionist (treating inflammation). No real relief. Other issue (related?) is poor blood circulation (circulatory disorder). Not overweight (120lbs at 5'4.
11446628 tn?1418298480 I have osteoarthritis in my spine, from neck down. I also have pain in my knee and hands, and my fingers are twisting and have knots. My right knee has had pain and swelling for weeks, and this morning it's too painful to walk. I haven't injured it. Recent blood test didn't report rheumatoid arthritis. So what's going on with my knee, and with my hands?
Avatar f tn Hi shorty, It's possible to get rheumatoid arthritis at literally any age. Have you seen a rheumatologist? This is a specialist who focuses on autoimmune disorders like RA. With your athletic background there could be some osteoarthritis going on, as well. It's hard to tell until you've seen a rheumie, who will run a number of blood tests and probably do some xrays to have a look at what's going on.
6887703 tn?1385789354 After 10+ years of spine pain and 10 years worth of spinal injections without any lasting relief, trigger point injections, PT, water PT & Dilaudid for pain. In 3 weeks, (4 Feb. '19) I am having 3 level (L3-L4, L4-L5, L5-S1) spinal fusion for osteoarthritis and degenerative spondylolisthesis. My question is how long did the post op severe pain last and how long before you were able to manage on your own (I live alone with a cat but can/will get a home health aid)?
Avatar f tn My husband keeps getting recurrent pain in his neck. He has had to go to the ER a few times and x-rays were normal. He went to the dr. yesterday and she gave him Flexeril and Ultram but they don't seem to help the pain. Tonight I put hot, wet washrags (making them hotter slowly) and after waiting about 15 minutes, rubbed ben-gay on his neck and shoulder muscles. He says 'if I could just crack my neck, I think it would feel allot better'.

Avatar m tn Neck and back pain can occur due to other reasons and not just bone problems (degenerative diseases of the spine). Hence it is wise to get a doctor's diagnosis. I do find that having a massage does help to relax the muscles that are causing spasms, but this does not cure any bone problems. Even with bone problems you will experience good and bad days and even the severity can fluctuate within the day.
Avatar m tn Back in July 2013, I developed pain in both thumbs while playing my banjo. I had recently started new playing techniques on the banjo with both hands. I am 48 years old. I've been to a hand therapist and she believe it is some type of repetitive stress injury and since then I've only play a little and have used splints and exercises etc. I feel things have been getting better but slowly. Recently, I went to a sports medicine hand doctor and he had said I have osteoarthritis.
Avatar f tn What should i expect with this diagnosis? I have terrible neck pain and headaches and numbness on left side of body. I also have chiari malformation, ibs (surgery), asthma (pneumonia x1), and sinusitis (prior surgery). Should i see a rheumatologist?
Avatar f tn I have severe pain in the middle of my spine, xrays showed lots of arthritis, also in shoulders neck and knees.a simple task like pushing a broom is crippling.any idea what type of arthritis?
Avatar m tn Hello tx, thanks for reply. My 'lovely' disease has been described by docs as...degenerative disc disease or osteoarthritis. However, the latter I know to be more accurate...since, as I mentioned, it has spread to hips, extremeties etc. Meds I take are not slowing the progress at all. Docs just say..."no cure and try manage the pain with meds"...that's all. Have been on so many different types...and I suppose, like so many...
1672915 tn?1335220598 I am 5 mnths post op and still have unbearable pain in my neck, left shoulder that sometimes go down my arm, low back and right hip pain. Last mnth I had Mri's done and my surgeon said they look good. I went and saw a pain Dr. and he put me on a muscle relaxer that's supposed to help but so far it hasn't. I am having more pain now then I did before surgery and I am becoming very depressed. I am worried that when I go back to the pain Dr.
8317359 tn?1397621339 ve found some relief through integrative pain management techniques, specifically neurotomy (nerve destruction) of the medial branch nerves that innervate the diseased facet joints. This is an outpatient procedure where the doc uses a probe to ablate the nerves supplying the joints at specific levels using radio frequency energy. The procedure is done under conscious sedation and is over in 30 minutes. After a week of so of recovery, it can reduce my facet syndrome related pain by half.
1213000 tn?1280463161 I have osteoarthritis in the knees and neck and some nerve pain that has plagued me since a bout with Bells Palsy in the right front portion of the neck. These pains were controlled with Motrin -- prescribed at 800 mg three times a day. Now I am on Plasurgrel (new blood thinner) and diltiazem for BP and the doc says "No Motrin, No Nexium, No anything" for the other pain. Ok, I don't want to die but how do I handle the pain? I do not want narcotics.
Avatar m tn The regular arthritis pain increases gradually when the patient is walking and prevents walking altogether after about 15 yards. The grabbing pain is additional to the regular pain. The only relief for the pain is sitting. Lying down, getting up, standing, walking, twisting, reaching, any movement may cause the grabbing pain unexpectedly. It seems to radiate from the spine across the top of the hip and down the right leg.
Avatar f tn I have arthritis in most of my joints, but I have more than one type of arthritis too. If you are looking for symptoms of osteoarthritis in the neck, they include pain, stiffness, tenderness, weakness, tingling or soarness in the arms, headaches and even balance problems.
