I used both, and found that side effects are similar; tiredness, weight gain, and a slow pulse. Side effects are more pronounced as the dosage is increased. I had dosages from 25mg to 200mg. daily. Other reported effects are loss of libido, tightness in the chest, itching, irregular breathing, and irregular heartbeat. If you have any further questions, I'd be happy to respond based on my experience with the drug.

I did see some information regarding an interaction between metoprolol and this product, but it pointed to an increase in metoprolol bioavailability, which theoretically shouldn't adversely impact the PVC burden? Anyone have any input or knowledge.. Even similar personal experiences with this?

I did 2 days on 40 mg of Propranolol and I had the same side-effects than on the metoprolol... and I guess it's not side-effects but anxiety symptoms that I experience. Also when I return on the Propranolol for 2 days at a bigger dose, my blood pressure and pulse rate wasn't under control at all, heart rate was in the high 80 sit at rest and 150 and more just walking in the house...

I had taken Toprolol when much younger and in normal sinus rhythm (then it too was 50mg SR) and it had no side effects that I can recall, I was still running for exercise. You might want to discuss using a calcium channel blocker to lower blood pressure. In all my comments are made with no knowledge of "diovan" and its side-effects. Good luck in finding a way to keep the BP normal, that is an important issue.

Has anyone had experience with side effects from metoprolol after using awhile? I've been on a minimal dose (25 mgs bid) for over 6 months now. I didn't seem to have any side effects to speak of until recently. I do also have positional vertigo. Not only has this gotten worse as of late but I have become unsteady on my feet and dizzy quite often. I had to get a ct scan for tumor in my neck and it was just horrible!

Yes, sadly that is true. There is a 25mg tablet. It took some trial and error before they could find a dose that was right for me. He may have to do the same thing. I take 50mg 3 times a day rather than taking a 100mg tab in the morning. I would almost nod off when driving. Have him talk to his doctor about changing his dose, breaking down the dose over the course of the day or maybe even changing the med to some other.

any one out there uses metoprolol for blood pressure and heart rate it seems to work but dont like the floating feeling i get

He was suggesting it had fewer sexual side effects. Maybe the Cialis will be enough to override any sexual side effects from the Metoprolol so I won't have to switch, but still curious whether I should ditch it for the Cardizem to at least try it. I don't have high blood pressure, just tachycardia and the metoprolol really helps keep that in check. Should I just stay on metoprolol and try the cialis and see how it works or should I try the cardizem?

Hi folks! As many of you know I am on metoprolol tartrate 25 MGs b.i.d. for my PSVT. Even though I'm on the lowest dose I do get quite a bit of side effects as far as being overtired and dragging. My cardiologist now has started me on verapamil because my BP has been running high. I'm just afraid this is going to make me even more tired and dragging. Is anybody on this combo and if so how have the side effects been?

ve been on this BB for a couple of years and my body has adjusted somewhat and lowered the side effects. It also seems that the intended effects/controls are also diminishing, too bad as that means a higher does or new med may be in my future.

By the way. I am on 75mg per day of Metoprolol, and have been as high as 200mg with no side effects except sluggishness at the high dose. I'm fine at 75mg and have taken it for 10 years, Now that I reread your post, do you think you're having syncope as a result of the medication of because the of Vtach?

Both drugs have the same side effects and together and one or the other or both create what I can only describe as chaotic turbulence in my chest and pain in my left arm when the second drug kicks in.. My cardiolgist now wants me to add a blood thinner (xarelto) to my meds menu. Who else has this problem with taking both diltiazem and metoprolol? Is it wise to mix a beta blocker and a calcium channel blocker.

I take metoprolol and I have had hardly any side effects. It did make me alittle tired but I got use to it. Everybody is different when it comes to meds and side effects. For expample musikbox could not tolerate metoprolol and was switched to atenolol. For me it was the opposite. I could not function on atenolol and had to come off of it and I am having no problems with metoprolol.

Hello everyone. I had sexual side effects from taking Metoprolol Tartrate. Are there any BP meds that I can take that do not cause these effects? I have heard of some that I could speak to my doctor about. But I wanted to ask here to see what advice I get from this forum. Thanks so much.

I seem to have developed a fast heart rate and high blood pressure though since the proceedure but I am controlling them with 360 mg of cardizem cd and 100 mg of metoprolol daily and I feel good. I've noticed that I'm also seeing hair loss since having the proceedure. Has anyone else experienced this kind of side effects after having cardiac ablation ?

Has anyone developed Arthritis like side effects? I started taking Metoprolol (25 mg) in Feb of 2012 and suddenly in August my right hip began to develop severe pain. I did not relate this to being a side effect so had tests which showed "minor Arthritis and small tear in Labrum. The joint specialist started physical therapy and the hip finally got well enough to get off crutches and only use a cane by December.

I recently had an exacerbation of svt requiring adenosine and an increase in my maintenance metoprolol dosage. I essentially lost a day of memory and have been forgetful and foggy headed. Just wondering if this is normal. I can't get any doctor I have seen to address this.

My son has severe asthma and uses a separate steroid inhaler (Flovent) and uses his ventolin inhaler for emergencies.

This works well to control my tachy....but, has bad side effects of anxiety, restlessness and agitation. I lookd up Bystolic..and it has none of these type side effects listed. I was going to ask my doctor to change to Bystolic. Has anyone here had any success in changing over to Bystolic from Metoprolol ?

My cardio gave me some samples of 10 mg coreg to take once a day and a prescription to fill if the side effects from the metoprolol do not get any better. The side effects from the metoprolol have gotten a little better, though as I type this my heart rate is 52 bpm. Does any one have any comments on the pros and cons of carvedilol versus metoprolol? I'm not sure I want to switch if the side effects will be the same. Does anyone have experience with metoprolol?

If your BP is on the low side, the effects you feel when standing or bending over are a common side effect from many beta blockers. How much Metoprolol per day are you taking? This drug will slow your heart down, and make it slower to respond to high level of respiration and physical output. I had to adjust my training regime once I began it. I warm-up longer than I used to, and start slowly.

There seems to be conflicting information out there regarding how metoprolol (and selective beta blockers) effect potassium levels in the blood... I know that non-selective BB can raise levels, but not sure how selective BB effect potassium levels. The reason I ask is that I like to have a high-potassium diet to control my palpitations, but wonder if I need to be careful how much I intake...

I am now on Toprol XL - a very small dose, and it makes my pvcs lessen and even go away. It is a pretty safe drug and you must try and take the smallest dose possible. Write again and let me know how you are doing.

I now take 50 mg once a day, and I take it after my evening meal. I think it still has some unwanted side effects, but not too bad, no more dizziness when I stand up quickly, well not most of the time. I believe Metoprolol, like all/most medications, are tolerated differently by the using population. Some have little or no side effects, some just can't take it. This is something that will have to be worked out for your specific case to get the best results There are alternatives.
