Avatar f tn Hello everyone. I had sexual side effects from taking Metoprolol Tartrate. Are there any BP meds that I can take that do not cause these effects? I have heard of some that I could speak to my doctor about. But I wanted to ask here to see what advice I get from this forum. Thanks so much.
Avatar f tn Hi, How are you? Metoprolol side effects usually include dry mouth, constipation, heartburn, vomiting, diarrhea, decreased sex drive, impotence, or difficulty having an orgasm, headache, drowsiness, tired feeling, sleep problems or anxiety and nervousness. (ref: http://www.drugs.com/metoprolol.html) Nipple pain and tenderness have been documented but very rarely. Other factors that may have an effect may include hormone changes.
Avatar m tn I'm on 75mg, and was on as high as 200mg, with zombie like effects. 100mg did me good though. Metoprolol is known for depressing heart rates. I don't know about Antenolol, but perhaps this is a lower dose and is having less of a side effect. By the way 100mg. did not affect my libido.
Avatar n tn Known side effects of Coreg include fatigue, sleep disorders, dizzyness, and GI pains. (See for example SK Beecham site on Carvediolol). My wife uses Coreg and suffers from all these side effects. What are good counter measure drugs or non-drug therapies? What are most severve and cautionary drug interactions with Coreg? Thank you.
Avatar n tn Hello, I have frequent PVCs, a holter moniter registered 5000+ in one day (and that was a good day). On my last EKG, my Dr. said there was some question about a long QT interval, she said it was nothing to worry about, she didn't even mention it at the time (also, I have had yearly EKGs for about 3 years running, no mention of long QT interval). She also found my TSH levels were high. She put me on 40mg of Inderal, which helps the PVCs.
Avatar n tn I have tried one a long time ago,(1983) and didn't like it because it made me feel sluggish. Could you comment on a beta blocker that you think is ok, and maybe has few side effects? If there is such a thing. Also ,I just started taking one each, potassium and magnesium pill a day, on the suggestion of this forum. Could be too early to tell, but it seems to be helping. Is this phsyco-symatic on my part or is there something to this as well? Thanks.
Avatar n tn Dear Kim, Thank you for your question. Stomach discomfort can occur with beta-blockers but it is usually in less than 1% of people who take them. Here is some general information about beta-blockers. As far as specific advice we recommend following the advice of your physician. Beta-blockers are used to treat high blood pressure, angina (chest pain), heart attacks, heart rhythm problems such as atrial fibrillation and more recently heart failure.
Avatar n tn has put me on Toprol-xl 25 gm a day. What is this medicine for and the side effects. My blood pressure is fine so is the heart beat.Have high chlorestol, runs in the family, had quad by-passes 21 yrs ago, am on zocor 80 grams a day.
Avatar n tn Toprol XL is a long acting version of metoprolol. This drug is a beta-blocker. Potential side-effects of beta-blockers include fatigue, problems with diabetic control, and impotence. Q: It seems that the better physical shape I stay in the less I have a problem with A.F. Could exercise have an impact? A: There is no known effect of exercise on atrial fibrillation (AF). Q: Is a pacemaker an alternative?
Avatar m tn This may cause blood pressure to fall excessively and heart rate to increase, especially when you rise from a sitting or lying position. The risk of other side effects such as dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, headache, flushing, nasal congestion, heart palpitations, and priapism (prolonged and painful erection unrelated to sexual activity) may also increase.
Avatar n tn _ Dear Colleen, Thank you for your question. Both betaxolol (brand name - Kerlone) and carvedilol (brand name -Coreg) belong to a class of medications called beta-blockers. This class includes the following other medications: generic (brand name), - propranolol (Inderal), atenolol (Tenormin), Labetalol (Normodyne, Trandate), metoprolol (Lopressor), pindolol (Viskin), Nadolol (Corgard), and sotalol (Betapace). These drugs work by binding to a receptor called the beta receptor.
Avatar n tn My physician did not want me to cut the dose and I would like to know what side effects I should be on the look out for? What also is the length of time it takes to ween one off the medication and how should this be done? Thanks for your help.
2203249 tn?1338994046 However, because WHVP measurement is not widely available, most clinicians aim to titrate the dose of beta blockers to achieve a resting heart rate of 55 beats/min or a reduction of heart rate by 25% from baseline. Unfortunately, beta blockers have some significant side effects, so often the dose is simply adjusted to a maximally tolerated dose. The most common side effects reported are lightheadedness, fatigue, shortness of breath, and impotence in men.
Avatar n tn Thanks a lot., Thank you for your questions. In general there are no long-term side effects from atenolol. I am not sure why you have put the weight on. Have there been any other changes in your lifestyle or eating habits? What type of weight loss programs have you tried? Here is some general information about beta-blockers.

Avatar n tn Posted By CCF CARDIO MD - CRC on April 15, 1999 at 15:22:40 Dear Ronald, Thank you for your question. Beta-blockers (i.e. atenolol) and calcium channel blockers (i.e. cardizem) can interact with each other and cause a slow heart rate. What does your heart rate usually run? What type of palpitations do you have and do you have any symptoms from them?

Avatar n tn Some patients who take beta blockers suffer from lethargy and impotence, but those are rare side effects. However, if the PVC's are not bothering you too much, it may be better just to stay on your current medications and try not to focus on the PVC's. The PVC's will not be life threatening to you, but certainly may be a nuisance. Finally, it's quite normal for PVC's to cease with exercise. Overall, I suggest that you speak with your physician again about this issue.

Avatar n tn A2 inhibitors (which I'm on), ACE inhibitors, and calcium channel blockers (which I'm on), seem to have far less side effects. But they are more expensive.
