Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol side effects metoprolol tartrate side effects

1933354 tn?1323366434 Keep in mind that when you switched from Toprolol ER (Metoprolol Succinate) to Lopressor (Metoprolol Tartrate), you lost the timed released advantage. If you were taking 25mg. pills of each medication, you are loosing a great deal of the latter drug's effectiveness as the day wears on. The half life of Metoprolol Tartrate is only 3-7 hours. So you must take it at least twice a day for it to be effective the entire 24 hour period. Also 25mg., once a day is a a very small dose.
1347434 tn?1282595378 My biggest fear is that it won't control my NSVT like the Nadolol does and I'll have breakthroughs. I'm also worried about side effects. Do any of you take Metoprolol? If so, how does it make you feel? What dosage are you on? Have you ever changed from one Beta Blocker to another, and what is the transition like? Thanks!
443862 tn?1238003039 Sorry Flycaster305 but I couldn't disagree more. I'm on Toprol and have had simililar issues including SOB and near syncope and the panic comes after the symptoms not before. The "panic attack" is the most over-relied on explanation in medicine. Far too often we just accept this **** from out health professionals unquestioning and "live with" the side effects. My average blood pressure was 140/90 and on 25mg/day it often in 88/58 and that is TOO low.
1198633 tn?1341185988 Yes, these are common side effects with metoprolol tatrate . You should report these side effects to your doctor, there are other meds they can try that may be better tolerated.
1464004 tn?1384139333 If your BP is on the low side, the effects you feel when standing or bending over are a common side effect from many beta blockers. How much Metoprolol per day are you taking? This drug will slow your heart down, and make it slower to respond to high level of respiration and physical output. I had to adjust my training regime once I began it. I warm-up longer than I used to, and start slowly.
Avatar f tn I had been on Metoprolol Tartrate .25 2x day for over ten years. No really bad side effects other than drowsy in a.m. Did gain weight about 25 lbs through the years, but I don't really blame metoprolol, but blame over eating. On Weight watchers now and have lost 14 lbs. I was Prescribed metoprolol and aspirin after diagnosis of 50% blockage in main heart artery to reduce BP and prevent angina. Then After 11 years started getting rapid heart beat.
Avatar n tn I used both, and found that side effects are similar; tiredness, weight gain, and a slow pulse. Side effects are more pronounced as the dosage is increased. I had dosages from 25mg to 200mg. daily. Other reported effects are loss of libido, tightness in the chest, itching, irregular breathing, and irregular heartbeat. If you have any further questions, I'd be happy to respond based on my experience with the drug.
1608566 tn?1298200468 My husband has been taking metoprolol tartrate 50 mg Tab after heart surgery 1 week ago it is making him very tired and he has no appetite is this normal
Avatar m tn About 6 months ago I had a brief spell of a-fib that caused a chain reaction of doctor visits, cariologist visits, tests that all came out normal. My cardiologist put me on metoprolol tartrate 25mg twice per day. Although he told me it was a benign drug I have many side effects including fatigue and drowsiness, some dizzyness, and loss of sex drive and ED problems. The side effects were really hampering my ability to function throughout the day.
Avatar n tn I am taking metoprolol tartrate 25mg twice and day because my heart rate was a little high when I saw my doctor 122 bpm. I was on 50mg twice a day, but my doc cut it due to side effects. I'm still suffering side effects, stiff arms, legs, and depression. I am also having some difficulty with my blood sugar, stays low. I feel like all I do is eat, when I asked my cardiologist he said to talk to my general practitioner.
Avatar f tn Hello, I am going to be applying to receive a medical marijuana card for treatment of my Tourette, severe anxiety disorder and PTSD. I take 25mg of Metoprolol Tartrate every morning solely for anxiety to slow my heart rate down (I tend to get anxiety episodes where tachycardia is the main symptom). I’m wondering if anyone (preferably a doctor, of course) would know if medical cannabis would interact with beta blockers, such as Metoprolol Tartrate.
1464004 tn?1384139333 Hi folks! As many of you know I am on metoprolol tartrate 25 MGs b.i.d. for my PSVT. Even though I'm on the lowest dose I do get quite a bit of side effects as far as being overtired and dragging. My cardiologist now has started me on verapamil because my BP has been running high. I'm just afraid this is going to make me even more tired and dragging. Is anybody on this combo and if so how have the side effects been?
Avatar n tn I took 2 different versions of metoprolol, Toprol (metoprolol tartrate) and Toprol XL (metoprolol succinate). The second one is the extended release version. Toprol made my symtoms worse but Toprol XL worked fairly well in controlling my conditions, PVC's and PSVT. I was taking 50 mg a day in both cases. The only thing that affected me was a slight feeling of dizziness at times and some mental fatigue.
Avatar m tn Propranolol has a reportedly better shortening effect on Long Q than Metoprolol. Are you taking Metoprolol Tartrate? Metoprolol has a very short half life; typically 5 hours or so. In that time, half of it is metabolized. Physicians usually prescribe Metoprolol to be taken twice a day beca use of his. MetoprololSuccinate is the time release version, and that is taken once a day. In addition 25mg. is an exceedingly small dose.
Avatar f tn Hi all again, I am on tablets for my heart, as a few years ago my heart was beating irregular so the Drs at the hospital put me on Metoprolol Tartrate, in which I take a 50 mg tablet in the morning and another 50 mg tablet in the evening. It slows my heart down and is supposed to take away my palputations, and I did always have high blood pressure and this also helps.
Avatar m tn As soon as I start the Metoprolol, I start having side-effects that I didn't had while I was on Propranolol (took it previous the Metoprolol). My side-effects became more and more disturbing. Just to name a few, I feel VERY tired all the time, to the point that just taking a shower is enough to make me feel like I just run a marathon. I have difficulty to sleep and vivid dreams all the time when i'm able to sleep.
Avatar f tn So they released me on beta blockers once they got it under control. 25mg Metoprolol Tartrate. twice a day Its only been 2 days on this. But already these pills have me a little worried and im wondering if someone can ease my mind! However i will say this. for the first time in 3 months I no longer am aware of my heart rate 24/7 - You have no idea what a mental relief that is!! PLUS no more jumping/flutter/skipping beats!!! So, the problem? my heart rate seems really....
Avatar f tn Hello everyone. I had sexual side effects from taking Metoprolol Tartrate. Are there any BP meds that I can take that do not cause these effects? I have heard of some that I could speak to my doctor about. But I wanted to ask here to see what advice I get from this forum. Thanks so much.
Avatar m tn I have actually read some good stories about those who switch from Toprolol to Atenolol with good success but I also read some scary stories about how Atenolol gave more of the bad side effects of a beta blocker. It doesn't hurt to try however so I will remember to ask. Did you have to be on the same dose from Toprol to Atenolol?
Avatar m tn This is said to be a normal side effect.. But I want to start taking it at night to lessen side effects.. I read if you don't take it at the same time every day it can really send your heart into shock or something bad can happen.
Avatar n tn I had a list of over 68 side effects from this drug ! most were untold side effects ,that doctors never tell you about -or pharm companys will list. best to slowly ween off the med - and see if your (good) doctor will help you out in doing it ! it took me 6 doctors, before I got help with weening off the med. but thats due to the hmo I was with. Good luck and take it slow and easy !
Avatar f tn For my situation and for the type of palps I was getting I tried all sorts of meds and I came to the conclusion, for me, that there aren't any medications that could help, or, the side effects were as much a problem as the condition I was trying to make better.
612551 tn?1450025775 Following are my observations on day two of substituting Atenolol 25 mg twice a day for Metoprolol 25 mg twice a day.. both are regular, for Metoprolol it is called Tartrate, I think the Atenolol comes in only one normally longer lasting form. Today in the early afternoon, following my third 25 mg dose of Atenolol at about 9 AM, I noticed some dizziness when I rose from a time sitting.
Avatar n tn The cardiezem did not seem to help as I had taken a dose 1 hour before my afib actually began. I was struggling with side effects from Cardiezem and asked to have my medicine changed, so I was put on 50 mg Metroprolol Tartrate per day, but began to suffer some nasty side effects--headaches, dizziness, nausea, abdominal cramps, lucid dreams, runny nose, and my heart rate dropped from 75-85 bpm to 45 to 55 bpm's depending on what I was doing.
Avatar m tn Yes, Metoprolol Succinate is the timed release. It is also way more expensive than Metoprolol Tartrate. I switched long ago to the latter and saved a lot of money. A dose costs literally pennies. You have to remember to take it twice a day though. I take it at "5 and 5"; at rising, and at dinner, and it's easy to remember. Metoprolol has the same bradycardia effect as Atenolol, so that has to be watched.
Avatar n tn There are two type of Metoprolol, Tartrate and Succinate. With Metoprolol Tartrate, you take it twice a day, usually 12 hours apart. Maximum plasma levels occur about an hour after taking in and it begins to be metabolized. Typically, the dose is reduced 50% every 4 to 5 hours. This is why it's taken twice a day. Metoprolol Succinate is the time release version. It's taken once a day and is slowly metabolized throughout a 24 hr. period.
Avatar f tn Recently I tried going from 25mg per day to 12.5mg, and I felt the side effects. Some people are more sensitive to it than others, but any cardiologist worth their salt will tell you to be careful. I also get anxiety induced PVCs. Those are fun! So I can almost guarantee that they are due to stress, but it's always good to get a doctor's opinion for peace of mind. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn As both Metoprolol Tartrate and Citaprolam are metabolized in the liver, the Citaprolam can increase the effects of the Metoprolol Tartrate causing "bradycardia, hypotension, and complete heart block following the addition of a SSRI, subsequently requiring discontinuation of one or both agents and/or institution of a permanent pacemaker.
