Metoprolol and performance anxiety

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol and performance anxiety

Avatar n tn Beta-blockers affect the heart and circulation (blood flow through arteries and veins). Metoprolol is used to treat angina (chest pain) and hypertension (high blood pressure). It is also used to treat or prevent heart attack. It seems to me if you have high blood pressure the medication should be taken regularily and not as needed. I don't know the effect it has on chest pain.

Avatar f tn When they were trying to control rate with JUST beta blockers... I took 200 of propranolol and 300 of metoprolol and occasional 100 of labetalol here and there. It helped but it worked a LOT better when other classes of drugs were added. Since the point is to slow you down, it generally SLOWS you down. When I was on THAT much, I felt like I was nailed to the couch. Now, instead I take coreg as a beta blocker and diltiazem, and flecainide and lisinopril.
503727 tn?1210442710 I feel so unstable, and when I say unstable, I mean I feel like I cannot control anything and my panic and anxiety can just take me over. But have you ever noticed that even in the middle of the worse anxiety attack, if your in public with friends or something, you will aways excuse yourself properly before running off? I notice I do that, it's weird. Some may not, I dunno. The most important thing is that you are not alone and you are not crazy!
11671086 tn?1420330602 I tried to ignore it and thought maybe it was anxiety. I was always able to get out of my SVT by bearing down so I didn't think it was really an issue. But it came to a point where I was scared to workout or even bend over quickly because that would cause it. Finally got a 30 day heart monitor on and had the sort SVT episode while on it, HR jumped up to 260bpm. That got me to a electrophysiologist which recommend an ablation.
Avatar f tn I still have some performance anxiety, and I did get hard a couple of times on it, but nothing major like I was expecting. Haven't felt much all day. I take Xanax for anxiety, and also Metoprolol for tachycardia. I get nervous when I anticipate sexual activity because of fear of not being able to perform. I also have some ED issues. Question..I'm on a 30-day trial of 5mg a day of cialis.
Avatar f tn You are loosing your erection because you are watching yourself -- performance anxiety. The way to overcome this is to take intercourse off the menu for a while. But to do this your will need to have a regular partner.
Avatar m tn but now the doctor wants me on toprol? He said I can continue swimming but my performance won't be as good. And that I might have to drop quinapril if my bp goes too low. I will be taking 30mg (the lowest dose).
Avatar f tn Hi Insidescoop1, Thanks for your comment - it was very interesting to read about your experience. I definitely do have anxiety issues (and OCD) and can get extremely worried on top of my frequent periods of generalised/background anxiety, but the symptoms rarely if ever happen when I'm consciously anxious, so my thinking has been, "If it doesn't happen when I'm extremely worked up, but does happen apparently randomly, how can it be caused by anxiety?" But I don't know.
Avatar n tn I think everything is over and I clean up. I walk out of the toilet and in about 2 minutes time the stomach cramp and the fainting sensation comes back (I've fainted only once to date from this and was out for about 15-20 minutes). 6. When I get back to the toilet I have a really violent Diarrhoea episode in pure liquid state.
Avatar f tn Hello and hope you are doing well. Metoprolol is a beta blocker and hence is likely to slow down the heart rate. The ejection fraction is a useful measure of left ventricular performance. The normal range is 63-77% for males and 55-75% for females. It reflects the pumping capacity of the heart. There could could be a cardiac arrest due to ventricular arrhythmias, but unlikely to be due to bed rest. Don’t venture to discontinue your antidepressants without consulting your doctor.
Avatar m tn In my experience, nonselective beta blockers are better to manage anxiety-induced palps, and they also remove some anxiety. Selective beta blockers (like Metoprolol) only works on the heart, have less side effects (such as SOB with heavy exercise because the lungs don't open as much as they should, propranolol blocks this effect to some degree, this is not heart failure by the way).
Avatar f tn Zocor 10mg Topiramate (Topimax) 50mg 2 q d. Wellbrutrin 300mg 1 q d. I would appreciate any help.
116881 tn?1189759423 Main point, it is prescribed by a medical doctor, I would then assume it is reasonable. I think the dose level you are taking, 25mg or less, is so low that there is not "shock" to you body by stopping, or starting suddenly. If you were on 50mg or more per day for a period of time (how long, I don't know but suggest more than a month) it may be necessary to cut back by half until you are at 25 mg for a few days before stopping completely.
692515 tn?1228898831 However, I believe you cannot stop taking suddenly as there would be a surge of adrenalin, of which the BB inhibits, and could spike heart rate and perhaps blood pressure. I believe that is why they tell you to gradually reduce dose if are thinking about discontinuing.
Avatar n tn I had stress test which was reported as negative for signs of ischemic change and i was on for about 10mins so told angina unlikely but told i could keep on 25mg atenolol as it probably would not do me any harm and seemed to be reducing palpiations. My chest pain has continued but g.p thinks it is combination of anxiety and costochondritis. In last few weeks i have had mild oedema of both legs and am feeling bit tired my g.
Avatar f tn Many of us find that drug therapy doesn't do much to prevent episodes. I was on Metoprolol for 6 years, and although it helped converting them, it did nothing to prevent them. I was getting 3-5 episodes per month. Until you can see someone, log your events, date, time of day, heart rate, and duration; any other symptoms. This data is valuable in helping your doctor diagnose you. Typically, an EKG will usually show nothing if you aren't in SVT at the time it was taken.

Avatar n tn In fact, I have had a bout since being on the Toprol. I think anxiety an caffeine are larger factors for me and I will do my best to control them. I don't know what the root cause of my Afib is, but I think its quite possible the long endurance exercise history might be a factor. I know three other bike racer/runners who have Afib problems. One is my younger brother whose exercise history parallels mine. His was successfully ablated at Cleveland Clinic a few years ago.
1298588 tn?1330322581 Inderal is supposed to help not only with arrhythmia's but it's an anti anxiety med or anxiety performance (mushy brain today so I can't remember) and my cards dr said there were 5 or 6 that do can with both.
405614 tn?1329147714 I'm having trouble walking, my head shakes back and forth, my hands are shaky and clutzy, and my trunk wobbles and jerks. I see my PCP tomorrow and my Neuro on Thursday. Has anyone had any experience with getting tremors to calm down? Should I try some diazepam, or just wait it out and see what my doc says tomorrow? My neuro didn't see my tremors my last 2 visits (I didn't see her until April 8, after my tremors had lessened).
Avatar f tn But this month I have to give three public speeches and I worry about my adrenaline from performance anxiety starting up the PSVT and making me look like a fool in front of hundreds of people. Hope that doesn't happen.
Avatar n tn sometimes I don't even want to get out of bed in the morning to face the day because I know I'll get the irregular heartbeat which depresses me. I might add I've had depression problems all my life and severe anxiety. Think anxiety could have anything to do with the irregular heartbeat? Anyone -- please answer me, or if you want, contact me at: ***@****. Thank you!
Avatar n tn i have discovered that because of my anxiety i feel itchy and get rashes around my neck chest, and if my anxiety is really bad every where else..all i can suggest is numerous baths. it doesn't rid the itchy feeling but it calms the feeling at least for a while.
Avatar n tn I resumed most of my activities in 6 weeks, and a year and a half later, I can't tell from my athletic performance that I ever had any problem. I take 150 mg of Avapro and 75 mg of metoprolol daily to lower my BP and peak arterial pressure, I notice only minimal issues (lower HR, slightly lower VO2max) from the drugs. I do not lift any weight that is heavy enough to make me really strain hard (e.g.
