Avatar f tn If your urologist was correct that your malfunctioning kidney was the cause of your hypertension in the past and your kidney function to this day remains normal, it would seem there should be an excellent opportunity to get off of medication no longer necessary to your body. But there is another question- it is five years later now... have you advanced in that time into your senior years?
Avatar n tn I have been told that both Metoprolol and Carvelidol are beta blockers used mostly in the tratment of CHF. What are the advantages of using Coreg instead of Toprol for the treatment of CHF. Does Coreg have a bigger or better effect in increasing EF and protecting heart function from progressive deterioration? Is Coreg contraindicated for people with mild kidney impairment? Thanks for your reply to this posting.

Avatar n tn We did some tests, ultrasound, nuclear and MRI and now they are saying they want to do a kidney biopsy. Right now I'm on blood pressure medication Norvasc, Metoprolol and the diuretic Lasix. Thing is they said they would see me in 4 weeks and assign me a Nephrologist then who will discuss whether or not to do the biopsy. One question I have is why wait so long? Why do they not want me to see the Nephrologist sooner? Also what is my prognosis? Can this be reversed?
Avatar m tn METOPROLOL, PLAVIX, COZAAR, ISOSOR MONO-SULFATE,VYTORIN, AND OF LATE, RANEXA. THIS LAST ONE, RANEXA, WORKS VERY WELL WITH ME IN STOPPING THE ANGINA I WAS GETTING WHICH WAS BECOMING ALMOST CHRONIC. IT ALLOWS ME TO EXERCISE AND FUNCTION ALMOST AS WELL AS BEFORE. HOWEVER, I REALLY LIKE TO EAT A !/2 GRAPERUIT IN THE MORNING AND THE MANUFACTURES SAYS YOU SHOULD NOT TAKE GRAPEFRUIT PRODUCTS WITH RANEXA. i WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY. IS IT DANGEROUS IN THAT LIVER, KIDNEY OR OTHER ORGAN WOULD BE DAMAGED.
Avatar f tn You'll have days as well that are good and some that are not so good. I had my kidney function tested about 3 weeks ago and he said everything was fine. Of course I'm afraid to believe him ya know. I am supposed to keep in touch w/ my urologist but I haven't seen him in a while. -But I wonder if you will need to switch out that blood pressure medicine. That certainly would be an easy fix! I bet they do especially when you tell them you have been noticing the edema.
Avatar n tn I am able to get up and go to work (as a teacher) and function at a normal level on a daily basis. My doctor's name is Blair Grubb and he is connected to Toledo University's College of Medicine. He is an expert in the autonomic dysfunction field and is simply a genius (He has patients coming to him from other countries-- that's how good he is). Dr. Grubb ,and his cohorts, did a controlled study on pregnant women who have NCS.
Avatar f tn If you had a cardiomyopathy involving CHF your EF% would be low and there would be lung as well as kidney issues to go along with that. At your age it would be very unusual for you to have CAD because a woman's hormones protect her for heart disease due to her ability to carry and deliver children. Once menopause hits, it's a different story. I would certainly consider the angiogram because it is obvious if your doctor wants this to be done and wants you to start taking beta blockers.
Avatar m tn The HCTZ (hydrochlorothiazide) is a good blood pressure medication and would certainly be reasonable to continue as long as your kidney function and lab tests for electrolytes are ok. If you have blurry vision, headaches, chest pain, or shortness of breath with blood pressure that high, you need to get to an emergency room ASAP!

Avatar m tn Creatinine has been found to be a fairly reliable indicator of kidney function. Coreg (beta blocker and ACE inhibitor) can/will dilate vessels as does an ACE inhibitor, and is sometimes used for heart patients. Discuss the options with your doctor. Hope this provides an insight for you.
116881 tn?1189759423 It did slow my Heat Rate (HR) down a bit, but not too much. Subsequently I've move to a generic Metoprolol and have taken as much as 100 mg twice a day...that has side-effect, read what the pharmacy gives you for information on side effects there are many. Most suffer from fatigue and some dizziness with high dose, but few symptoms with low dose, to me low is 50 mg or less. Some can't take it at all. If you like the taste of espresso you may be able to get a decaffeinated.
Avatar n tn Many people who reach remission do relapse. Metoprolol can be stopped once your levels stabilize and you are not having cardiac issues. You should have a baseline Liver function test before beginning any ATD's. You will also have periodic liver testing throughout the time you are on ATD's. Liver issues are not common. You can take an antihistime to help with itchyness. The itch should go away and may be a temporary reaction.
503727 tn?1210442710 As soon as I get into a place I get so dizzy and my vision is all messed up. I get so hot and sweaty and my heart races. I want my life back. I still dont believe that its just anxiety causing all of this. I feel like I have something else wrong that the doctors cant find even though i have had bloodwork, mri, ekg, and they were all normal. I started taking .25mg of xanax once a day. still dont feel any better yet. So if anybody has any help please give it to me.
Avatar n tn He is a Type I Diabetic with ESRD and hemodialysis. Previous Kidney transplant that went into failure 1 yr ago. 390388 tn?1279639813 I switched to taking it in the AM along with my Triamterene/HCTZ, and Metoprolol instead of mid-day.....in which it was dropping my HR into the low 60's. I'm just so wiped out feeling anymore. I hope my body adjust soon...... And realllllly hope they can also figure out why I'm in so much pain all the time. Mainly with my back; but, my stomach and all over body pains too. I feel like a real mess anymore. Sigh In case anyone has been reading my post.
Avatar f tn If you truly have high blood pressure, a cause must be found. Your doctor may want to check kidney function, heart function, thyroids, stress hormone levels, etc. If no cause is found, lifestyle modifications may help (stress reduction, exercise, healthy food, etc.) How high was your BP and heart rate at the ER?
Avatar m tn Those at highest risk of coronary artery disease and its complications are (1) smokers (2) diabetics (3) those with poorly controlled high blood pressure (4) patients with high cholesterol (5) those with significantly reduced kidney function. Associated medical conditions can also increase your risk of heart complications, and include obesity, obstructive sleep apnea, anemia, and disease in other blood vessels (so called ‘peripheral vascular disease’), among other things.
Avatar n tn The sensation is as if my head and neck are throbbing with pressure and I have to stop walking or slow down and stop and stand still for a minute or so to make the sensation stop. Sounds are muffled in rhythm with the pulsations and I sometimes feel as if I will pass out, but never have. There is no pain. I have been checked throughly by my GP, a cardiologist, and an electrophysiologist and none of them could find a cause.
Avatar n tn I think everything is over and I clean up. I walk out of the toilet and in about 2 minutes time the stomach cramp and the fainting sensation comes back (I've fainted only once to date from this and was out for about 15-20 minutes). 6. When I get back to the toilet I have a really violent Diarrhoea episode in pure liquid state.
808904 tn?1307061409 04. So I guess I am doing ok...liver and kidney function were fine. At first I thought the kidneys might have something to do with the bp #'s but nope. * am such an anxious person..I really appreciate your response. Means a lot.
9043033 tn?1401350253 I do know that if I don't take them I swell all over, especially my right leg and foot and my hands and face. Do other people have this problem and if so, what should the diagnosis be for all this? By the way, I'm a 62 yr. old female.
Avatar m tn So, as long as you aren't having any symptoms I would say get your blood pressure as low as possible. Of course your doctor will have to monitor your kidney function closely making sure that they are getting enough perfusion pressure. As far as the heart rate goes. I am not sure why it's high. You may have some type of tachycardia worth evaluating further.
Avatar n tn Not sure if I should eat certain foods not to interact with MMI and Metoprolol? How soon b4 meds correct Thyrotoxicosis? So badly want 2 stop beta blocker. This attending endo is playing nasty revenge game with meds very angered and hurt by his ignorant/dismissive treatment with any question(s) I want to address w/him. Thnx 4 listening 2 my questions/concerns Dr. Lupo, not many out there like you. Not sure where to complain about this particular attending endo dr.
1124887 tn?1313758491 78% RV function: Normal LA dimensions and function: Normal RA dimensions and function: Normal Slim, well functioning valves with no sign of dysfunction and regurgitation Aortic outflow velocity: 1,2 m/s PA pressure: Normal Impression: Normal echo study. Avatar n tn I take 175 mg of Metoprolol a day and 120 mg Cardizem CD now. They have seemed to mask the PVC which I still can feel faintly everyday. I also can't sleep, loose weight, and the Doctors answers are always here take another pill. I just want some one to think outside the old persons box and treat me as a young person with 40 years to live.
Avatar n tn It was 5, which still sounds high for someone like me who was avoiding potassium and has normal kidney function. the wbc was up to 3.9 but here's the weird part, my liver function, ALT(SGPT) was up -- 77. I don't drink, do drugs or have any other risk factors for liver problems. How does this relate to the heart? well , here are my questions: 1. I have a history of super sensitivity to many drugs. could 25 mg. of metoprolol 2x a day cause liver problems? 2. could it cause leukopenia? 3.

Avatar f tn Attacks could last minutes or hours and any combination of symptoms would happen. And in between attacks, my heart would regularly do many strange things - tachy, brady, irregular rhythm, extremely forceful beats, 'flip-flopping' feelings, etc. I also sometimes experienced a sensation of the heart stopping and restarting - immediately after the restart I would feel a MASSIVE, uncomfortable surge of adrenaline and the heart would beat very fast for a little while.
