Metoprolol side effects anxiety

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol side effects anxiety

toprol

Avatar n tn Per the instructions that came with the prescription it says to take exactly as directed (which is daily) because of serious side effects (heart attack, stroke). it's basically just to help calm down my heart rate. the bottle says "take or use exactly as directed. do not skip doses or discontinue" so now i'm nervous to use it if i feel that i need it.
443862 tn?1238003039 Is anyone taking metoprolol? It's driving me nuts! I do have anxiety disorder. And of course knowing they gave me this to lower my heart rate makes me nervous. And with my anxiety disorder I am taking my blood pressure every hour. I know that doesn't help. But dealing with the metoprolol, it has dropped me to 88/55 at times, today 112/73, then 93/55 then 142/70. I get hot flashes, shakes, tingling arms, a general feeling of panic when I see my reading is low or I feel the shakes....
Avatar m tn I did 2 days on 40 mg of Propranolol and I had the same side-effects than on the metoprolol... and I guess it's not side-effects but anxiety symptoms that I experience. Also when I return on the Propranolol for 2 days at a bigger dose, my blood pressure and pulse rate wasn't under control at all, heart rate was in the high 80 sit at rest and 150 and more just walking in the house...
1464004 tn?1384139333 Has anyone had experience with side effects from metoprolol after using awhile? I've been on a minimal dose (25 mgs bid) for over 6 months now. I didn't seem to have any side effects to speak of until recently. I do also have positional vertigo. Not only has this gotten worse as of late but I have become unsteady on my feet and dizzy quite often. I had to get a ct scan for tumor in my neck and it was just horrible! I had vertigo and dizziness for hours after just from laying flat for 10 minutes.
Avatar f tn metoprolol side effects.... well, I guess they are real, but you learn to live with it. The side effects are easier to live with than a resting rate of 150 and then going up and up from there. When they were trying to control rate with JUST beta blockers... I took 200 of propranolol and 300 of metoprolol and occasional 100 of labetalol here and there. It helped but it worked a LOT better when other classes of drugs were added. Since the point is to slow you down, it generally SLOWS you down.
Avatar f tn He also said anxiety/depression are NOT side effects of metoprolol. Has anyone else experience anxiety/depression while on metoprolol, especially on high doses? BTW I take metoprolol for IST.
Avatar n tn I used both, and found that side effects are similar; tiredness, weight gain, and a slow pulse. Side effects are more pronounced as the dosage is increased. I had dosages from 25mg to 200mg. daily. Other reported effects are loss of libido, tightness in the chest, itching, irregular breathing, and irregular heartbeat. If you have any further questions, I'd be happy to respond based on my experience with the drug.
Avatar m tn beta blocker aka toprol - same drug ! lots of side effects from this drug - more side effects happen if your on the Generic from ! You named all listed side effects for this drug - the stool issue is diffrent so could be a interaction with another drug your on ? it sounds as though your not tollerating this drug at all . and should be changed to something diffrent. with less side effects - you could be allergic to it ?
Avatar f tn So, my cardio put me on 50mg of Metoprolol and gave me 1mg Ativan to take as needed. Well, the Metoprolol was hell getting past the side effects, but I did it just to not have my heart pound so hard and loud out of my chest. I used less and less Ativan as time went by. I still had some palpitations (rare) and some occasional "thuds" in my chest. I was told this may happen DUE to the Metoprolol. I was also told to by my psych to take 20mg of Prozac.
Avatar f tn how was it you stopped after five years? your cardio said you should stop? What happened next?
Avatar m tn I am on Metoprolol 100 mg/day. I feel good no side effects at all, never had. It was fine from the beginning. Before I was on Coreg . Same, it was fine. I do not think you have any side effects from medications at all. You do have anxiety. You should work on that. There are healthier ways to work on that instead of taking prescription drugs. It can harm you many ways on the long run.
Avatar n tn Unfortunately, the side effects will probably not abate, and weight gain is indeed a very common side effect. You should speak with your cardiologist about ablation as an option.
443862 tn?1238003039 And its not Metoprolol that helps anxiety. It's actually Propranolol that treats stage fright and performance anxiety, which is a b2, not a b1 blocker. Just some thoughts.
Avatar m tn I am 38 year old.I was diagnosed of high BP(170/105mm/hg). I was prescrbed metoprolol 50mg and amlodipine 5mg. I have been taking this medine for a year. I have been regularly checking my BP ever since. It comes to 130/75mm/hg within a month. But Still I am taking the same dosage. My worry is : Is metoprolol and amlodipine safe to take?Since I am 38 only what would be its long term effects. That is taking the drug for over 30 years? Finally whether the dosage may be changed? Please help.
Avatar f tn I'm a 27 y/o healthy female who has been on 25 mg of toprol for a week and a half now. Also, I had an AVNRT ablation done on August 6th which has produced some side effects like increased heart rate, dizziness and lightheadedness. The doctors put me on toprol to mitigate some of those issues. In any case, I am extremely fatigued to the point that my head feels like it weighs 50 pounds, I have weak spells, lightheadedness and all of that is creating some anxiety.
Avatar n tn But whatever you're on, heart meds have side effects and some of them are scarey. Most of the really scarey side effects (like heart failure) are almost ridiculously infrequent, still, they're so extreme that people need to know about them so that if they start experiencing the symptoms, they can stop the drug and call their doctor. Wikipedia probably won't give you the percentages of the side effects--go to the drug's webside or the PDR website and find out.
Avatar n tn I really dont notice any side effects at all and Im one of those freaks that monitors for every little side effect. this reallyhad none. I actually look forward to taking it because it does slow your heart rate down a little -- not a lot to where it would bother you -- and it does actuallyhelp with anxiety because it eats up the adrenaline surge you get with the scary skipping. Try a low dose to start. It hink youll be fine.
Avatar n tn Having heard some of the more extreme cases of the potential side-effects of metoprolol, I was wondering... a.) Am I likely to experience many side-effects at such a small dosage? (I'm assuming 12.5mg 1x a day is considered a low dose). b.) What is the likelihood that metoprolol can be helpful for the aforementioned symptoms, especially in such a low dose? c.) Is 12.5mg minor enough to be able to stop taking fairly easily? Could taking it actually make my conditions worse?
Avatar n tn All was finew/ the Metoprolol (no side effects) until late July when I started losing LOTS of hair (300-400 hairs per shampooing; "normal" shedding of 75-125 when not shampooing) and now my previously thick, shiny hair is thinning rapidly and dull. My eyelashes are also falling out, but not as rapidly as the hair on my head. (I also started having insomnia and leg cramps at night.)My MD is in the process of weaning me from the drug - 12.
Avatar f tn The side effects of Prozac seem like they would enhance the side effects that I am having from metoprolol. Have any of you taken this combination or similar and ultimately did you feel it was worth it? I just know I can't continue on like I am feeling now.
Avatar f tn I take Metoprolol, 25mg 2x/day for AFib, which began in 09. Side-effect symptoms began within 2 or 3 days of starting the medication in 09 and I just couldn't stand how it made me feel. I've been on it regularly since mid-2010 when AFib events began happening within a week or so of each other; it got scarier and scarier. I refused to take it before that because it caused such severe side-effects....
Avatar f tn This works well to control my tachy....but, has bad side effects of anxiety, restlessness and agitation. I lookd up Bystolic..and it has none of these type side effects listed. I was going to ask my doctor to change to Bystolic. Has anyone here had any success in changing over to Bystolic from Metoprolol ?
Avatar m tn of BB, but I can say Toprol (Metoprolol), which is taken at a much higher does, usually 50 mg or higher, can produce the side effects you describe. Some of us adjust to them over time. I take Metoprolol at a 100 mg per day level, and may go higher. In the beginning it cause a too low BP and caused some dizziness when I stood up too quickly (or just didn't take time to stand up). These side effects have passed, my BP in now near normal.
Avatar f tn Anyway to cut a long story short the other day I read the information piece of paper in the box of its side effects and read this.
Avatar m tn I'm considering the minimum dose of propranolol as prescribed by my doc, but i'm very cautious and wanted to know what it is like and what any side effects and withdrawl might be like. what can i expect when taking this? i enjoy working out so i'm hoping it wouldn't affect my weight lifting and cardio that i like to do. thanks in advance!
Avatar m tn I can't go for long walks without being exhausted, though today I was happy that I managed to get my heart rate up to 102 (at that pace it normally would have been at 118-124). I'm feeling tired often. Are these side effects temporary? I'm starting to wonder if my cardiologist will take me off of the beta-blockers. It kind of *****, because it has helped with the anxiety aspect of my health, but I can't deal with feeling run down all of the time.

Avatar n tn Some workouts are better than others and some will produce dizziness afterwards. Will the side effects of the beta blockers abade? Will I be able to regain my energy level and exercise tolerance? Is weight gain a common side effect of the medication? Is ablation a good option if the beta blockers continue to produce adverse effects and what is the success rate for PAT's? Thank you so much. I have learned so much on this forum.
