Does anyone know of a doctor who will prescribe me methadone in low doses for my fibromyalgia. I've tried all kinds of pain meds, including natural and methadone is the only drug that gets me out of bed.
Yes Suzi, I had lots of back pain. All sorts of strange joint conditions. For one week I could not straighten my left leg. Hang in there it should pass.
I know pain mgt docs often perscribe methadone and oxy together I believe to help offset the addiction-methadone is essentially a medication used to help stop withdrawls from heroin but has pain-relieving proerties to it.Supposedly without the "high" (although there are plenty here that will attest otherwise).Not sure if this answered your question?Do a little research on the health pages as well as read some of the other posts...there is much to be learned hre so stay with us!
BTW, forgot to ask, were you on methadone just for pain? Curious because I've been using subs for pain as well as dependence myself.
Your problem could also be also that the methadone is blocking the breakthrough pain med. I have been on methadone for that reason. (Because I have severe pain but was also addicted to pain meds, opiates.) The methadone blocks all opiates so it's a waste of my time and money to even try any longer. You should do a little research on methadone. I'm surprised your doctor gave you an opiate breakthrough pain med while on methadone.
i feel ur pain..sometimes up to 3 weeks before u really feel lots better with methadone wd....like said there r things to help u do this..have u communicated with ur dr?
if u read thru the health pages there is several articles on methadone wds..these r personal accounts from a forum member,,in reality methaodne is just another narcotic that lasts a bit longer to wd from if u have been on it for a while..as is suboxone

My best friend was started on Methadone to manage completely debilitating chronic pain that is the result of multiple, major, back-to-back abdominal surgeries. Tonight marks the fourth full day of her being on Methadone, and she's really not feeling any better. How long can it take?

I'm on110mgs of methadone a day.I'm getting surgery very soon for my gallbladder. I've been in pain for months now i just want it out.I'm scared i will be treated different from other patents that aren't on methadone by doctors.the thing i am wondering is will my methadone block other pain medications the doctors give me.Ive had other surgery's and i know ill need them.I'm scared they will deny me the proper medications for pain because of my past.
TN is not a methadone friendly state. My pain management specialist had me on methadone for 12 years after trying other optoids with no success. I regained about 70% of my ability to function and good pain relief. I was able to go back to work after a year in bed. With the controversery over the increase of methadone related deaths my doctor decided to wean me off methadone and put me on pain patches, then morphine, then oxy everything.
If methadone is suppose to be a pain killer why doesn't it block pain? I have been on it for 6yrs. at a dose of 195 per day- I recently had a surgery and the doctor refuses to give me pain pills because he says methadone should block all my pain.
The trick to using Methadone for pain is to keep the dose low and not go up. Methadone is a long acting pain reliever and works very well if you do not over use it. In the beginning it may take a week or so to get the drug into your system and working properly. I also found out with the pain relief I can do some stretching exercises to strengthen the muscles around my spine to quiet the pain I get from degenerative spine disease.

I found out the doctor I got here runs a pill mill and when I asked questions, he dropped me. Social Security won`t help, welfare won`t help, free clinic won`t help and the doctor that put me on methadone just called and said he won`t take me back. hi, my husband is on 60mg of methadone (pill form) a day for chronic back pain. He's been on this regimen for 4 years now. If he runs out of his pills before he gets the new script how long will the last dose of methadone stay in his system and how quickly will the "dt's" start? I am asking because the doc had to resched his appt and he might run short and want to be prepared.
