The methadone will make you tired and this will last for a month or so until your body becomes accustomed. I tried it years ago and I could not stay awake at all no matter how hard I tried. I told my doctor that I just could not function on it and he changed it for me. Talk to your doctor as the others have suggested you may be having an allergic reaction besides the tiredness. I hope it works out well and you can find something else for your pain, some people just can't tolerate methadone.

I have been on and off pain meds due to a neck injury for years. I took myself off of the OXy's i was taken and been off for about 3 weeks. The doc gave me some darvacets and I THINK they are giving me shortness of breath. I also, take 1 soma350 a day now and two zanaflex at night to relax my twitches Has anyone else had these symptoms?

HI welcome to the world of methadone they dont tell you about im sorry hun about all you can do is get off the stuff to get rid of the side effects I was on it for 6 1/2 yr and lived in a sexless marriage it s u c ked I know of nothing that can fix your problem other then getting off the stuff if you need help with that I can help good luck and God bless........

im on methadone 25mgs a day. i started taking pain killers for chronic pain six years ago too and got extremely addicted to them. i went off of them in july and the pain got worse and the worse the pain got the worse the cravings got. so my doctor put me on methadone at a low dose to see if it would help with the pain. the good thing is it doesn't make me high or euphoric like lortab did and it has totally stopped my cravings.

Opiates effect everyone differently- and the side effects and half lives of the medication can increase interactions/side effects. That being said - it sounds as if your prescribed dosing is 1-5 mg OxyContin and 1-5 mg methadone tablet TWICE per day- is that correct? Then on top of your prescribed doses- you are self medicating by taking 2 or three times the daily amount in addition- you are TRULY lucky you have not wound up dead or in the hospital from overdosing.

I am 39yrs old and have been on methadone for approx 12-15yrs. This has proven to be the biggest life changing mistake i have ever made. I have not touched heroin for approx 10yrs,but between then and roughly a year ago,i also was addicted to valium,temazepam,and finally crack cocaine.

Just wondering if Methadone can be used indefinately for chronic pain control???? Have a friend that was just put on it and am worried that they may have to be on it for the rest of their life... And, if you are on it for chronic pain control.. do you have to increase your dose or does it just stay the same???

It really depends on the type of pain, but the side effects and potential for abuse are far less with subs, in my opinion. Nerve pain is not really helped by opiates, they just make me high enough to endure it. I know more people who died from methadone than any other drug.

are these the side effects of someone on methadone????cause i dont understand how i can be so talkative in the past and have such a strong personilty.. then turn into a zombie with no emotions, is this what happens after taking the pill for a while.. as i said im a 26 beautiful women.( i dont feel that way but i have men talking to me constantly,) get compliments daily.

Some pain meds worked but not for long periods of time. The meds for fibro had intolerable side effects for me. I have been on Methadone for 2 years now becuz i became pregnant and stopping pain meds would've put too much stress on the baby. She is 2 years old now.she's happy and healthy! My issue is that I have found out through my experience in taking liquid methadone that it helps my fibro pain for a long period of time..one dose lasts 24hrs!

t having to raise the dose to meet th epain need of their patient. And also methadone has shown to be a good pain med used for long term chronic pain relief becauuse of the above reason (and it's much cheaper). I do have to say you were on a heavy dose of oxy if i understand correctly..20mg 1 in the am, 2 in the afternoon and 2 in the evening.

I have been on methadone for pain quite some years and clonazapam for the past 3 or so for anxiety. About 2 or more years ago the methadone just quit working, I continued to see my Dr. telling him that I had pain, this was after going off of the methadone and trying suboxone for pain, when the pain would not go away the Dr. put me back on the methadone. 90mg. 30 three times a day. my clonazapam had the same thing happen, one day it worked and the next it stopped.

I guess I don't understand how people use Methadone for pain management IF they have to use a BT med. Doesn't Methadone block the effects of other narcotics? So how can BT meds work if they are blocked?

I don't know if there is one specific drug. A lot depends on how the drug effects you. I have heard methodone has little side effects but getting off it can be a horror story on it's own. There will be more experienced ppl on the forum that can better answer your question. I too am working with my CPC to find a long lasting pain med that "works" for me without side effects.

It could be very effective for you as it is for others like Sarajmt. If you notice side effects that do not resolve or are not tolerable you can always consult with your physician and stop (with his approval) the medication. I have always tried everything my physician has recommended. But these are decisions that no one can make for us. As Sandi (Dragon 1973) said and is always the case on this forum you should consult with your physician.

Some of those symptoms may be similar to withdrawal side effects of Incivek changing the effect of Methadone, so it may be hard to differentiate. And then there is the psychological component of both triple tx and Methadone to consider as you experience side effects. I personally used methadone for nociceptive pain for 12 years without incident, and received the best pain relief of my entire medical history (> 30 years). I rotated off because it was making me drowsy. However, I plan to rotate back when the tolerance to my current oxycodone therapy gets out of hand, for both pain relief, and to relieve chronic insomnia.

For some who get great analgesia from methadone, other medications can help with the side effects. For example, I used ritalin for the years I was using methadone. It kept me from falling asleep behind the wheel, and improved my ability to reason, greatly. If the methadone is a good pain reliever (for me, it was the best), ask your doctor if he/she would be willing to try a stimulant medication like long acting methylphenidate or Adderral XL to minimize your methadone side effects.
