Common Questions and Answers about Methadone dosing for pain

methadose

Avatar n tn hi, my husband is on 60mg of methadone (pill form) a day for chronic back pain. He's been on this regimen for 4 years now. If he runs out of his pills before he gets the new script how long will the last dose of methadone stay in his system and how quickly will the "dt's" start? I am asking because the doc had to resched his appt and he might run short and want to be prepared.
Avatar m tn I agree whole heartedly with geminigirl's suggestions. Please have a heart -to -heart with your prescribing physician. Different medications work differently for ppl. We could list all the most popular opiates for pain management but it would not tell you what's best for you. Some of the choices will depend on what is producing your pain. No one should have to suffer with poorly managed Chronic Pain. A simple change in medications or an additional med may help.
Avatar f tn My sister has been on methadone for over 6 years now. She was busting scripts for percocets several times a day until she got busted. She was taking at least 40 per day. Instead of jail she went into treatment. She still is on a very high dose of methadone, the last time I asked she was at 60mg. There are so many more issues with her treatment I have questions about. How long is methadone maintenance? It appears to me she has replaced her old habit with a legal habit.. I really worry about her.
Avatar f tn Hi there- are you asking for dosing information? We can't offer dosing information here but you can Google "COWS Scale" and that might help you.
653169 tn?1303446369 After your body adjusts to the methadone your doctor should manipulate the dosing to get you to the proper pain relieving amounts. How many milligrams of Methadone did your doctor start you on? And how much MS Contin were you taking? Methadone can be very effective for chronic pain, so hang in there. One of the positive aspects of the drug is it is a long acting, 24 hour medication. It doesn't agree with everyone, but it does help a lot of people.
Avatar f tn s normal for me. I am just looking for some withdraw stories for people who dosed down to 1mg from a clinic. Just wondering what to expect, if its going to be full blown bed ridden withdraws or if I'm just gonna be crabby and tired. I have a small son, so I need to be prepared, I am going to talk to my counselor this week about it to get some info, but looking for first hand stories. Thinking about taking a week vacation from work, but I want to take it at the right time.
Avatar f tn The problem lies with being on it for addiction AND pain control. Methadone maintenance for addiction is used with the intentions of eventually, and gradually weaning you off of it someday. Methadone for pain control is used without the need to "taper off" of it someday. I don't think it's an opiate blocker at all, as I take it when my body gets used to used taking either oxycontin, morphine, or fentanyl (my tolerance to the drug increases).
Avatar n tn ve been on methadone through a treatment facility and there are lots of women that are on methadone as well that just had babies recently and a girl that I have seen that is pregnant now many months into her pregnancy and she is still dosing methadone. So safely you can do it under a Drs care of course. Good luck..
Avatar f tn However, the pain-relieving effects are shorter than the pharmacological half-life, so that dosing for pain control usually requires multiple doses per day. Depending on its form, Methadone can also be known as Dimepheptanol. As with heroin and all other opiates, methadone tolerance and methadone dependence usually develop with repeated doses.
Avatar n tn I feel your pain, I have been on Methadone for 7 years, got up to 150mg down to 4mg now back to 20mg, while at 15mg the "machine" pumped out 2 bottles worth, which I had already taken while waiting for my sun. dose, which is when the nurse wondered where my bottle was and what did "I" do with it. Her Super then said she had put both doses in my cup instead of just 1, she was slacking.
480448 tn?1426948538 That is what your pain patients taht ahve been on methadone for longer than 4 months are experiencing. Since they are there for chronic pain issues the doses you are most likely prescribing don't go much higher than 60-80 mgs and even that is a high dose for any reason. Back when the first methadone clinics were opening up in NYC the ceiling dose was 60mgs only recently have we been seeing people at clinics on doses up to 500mgs, which is absolutely unnecessary.
734322 tn?1231796678 DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO GET OFF METHADONE I HAVE BEEN ON IT FOR 5 YEARS NOW AND I WANT OFF THE LIQUID HAND CUFFS..??
4407520 tn?1363011865 the pain is withdrawal pain from the methadone, or least i hope it is, i went to the dr for my stomach a few weeks ago and my x-ray looked normal, i havent had an injury and am pretty sure its just withdrawals, it like a constant ache, that only hot water or icy hot will kinda relieve it, and about the vicodin i can get 130mgs of liquid methadone for the same as like 10 10mg vicodin, the vicodin will last me 2 days, where as the methadone will last for a few weeks, im not going to the clinic any
Avatar m tn Kind of like Methadone (long acting pain reliever) and Percocet or Norco ( examples of short acting pain reliever commonly used for breakthrough pain). I don’t know much about Belbuca, but I believe it is similar to Methadone in the sense that it’s a long acting pain reliever and blocks euphoric properties other opiate have. It doesn’t change their effectiveness for pain. If Belbuca is expensive, you could ask your doctor if you can be switched to something more affordable like Methadone.
Avatar m tn Standard dosing with methadone indicates a 30-40 mg dose to start with....for opiate addicts some take the dose to over 120mg for maintanance............those are daily doses..not 3x a day.....
Avatar m tn I CAN NOT believe a doc would prescribe methadone for a freakin kidney infection! This right there is the main problem and why MMT is getting such a bad wrap. Methadone is strong medication and should be given only to recovery opiate addicts, cancer pts or other pts with a SEVERE dibilitating disease and only AFTER trying other types of medication for pain mgt. It floors me that he would prescribe it for a kidney infection, I don't care how bad of an infection it was.
Avatar n tn I came into a methadone clinic because I was starting a habitual use of oxycontin (snorting, 80mgs/day, for about 4 months). I feel like I should have never started using methadone, and I have been daily dosing for about a month a half now, and I have been at 50 mgs for about 3 weeks. I feel horrible going cold turkey, but I am wondering if this is possible for me right now.
Avatar f tn I am praying that someone can help me, I have been taking loratab 10 off and on since my back surgery in 2004 I take 2 sometimes 3 a day, more important I have been battling shingles and PNh pain, and the pain on my face , ears eyes..
Avatar f tn Thanks For your comment i think your probably right i was just curious that place said they use blind dosing meaning you dont know what they are giving only that its not m-done or sub its some short acting mystery drug i dont like somthing not bknowing what it is and ive done the methadone detox b fore and even though i can throw down some percs methadone was a whole new thing i did not tolerate it well at all even whith doses equvelent to what im on now BUt thanks for you comment
Avatar f tn I had no problems getting methadone there so I hope it works out for you I stayed on it for 6 1/2 yrs for pain control of my lower back I dont recamend that have them taaper you off if necessary go back to something else but I found my pain was a lot more manageable off the narcotics as do meny of our members if this clinic is not opening soon I agree with Jeremy go to a sub doctor I wish you all the luck in the wold with this but methadone is no way to live do your best to get off it God bless.
Avatar m tn well yes I do agree that it is trading one addiction for another, methadone or suboxone are much healthier for you as well as it being monitored by your doctor or a clinic. it is possible to quit an opiate addiction without things like methadone or suboxone but it is difficult and has a high failure rate. some people can do it and only do it once and stay clean for the rest of their lives while others like myself need the help of these medications to fully kick the habit.
Avatar n tn There has been 4 occassions now that my urine tests come back positive for methadone but no methadone metabolite. This has occurred even when I was getting dosed daily at the clinic. The clinic took all my take homes because they said if I was taking my methadone the metabolite would show up. I have never in the 6yrs in the clinic, ever missed a single dose. How is this possible? Please help me because I deserve my take homes.
Avatar m tn w/methadone experience around here. The dr. I am seeing said I could use the methadone as a pain killer, they just need to keep a closer lookout on the monitors, as they will be putting me under. Ibuprofen 800 is ALL I plan on taking, but I was wondering what people out there, detoxing off of methadone, did. Did you have to put off your surgery until you detoxed, or like the dr. I will be seeing said, "they will have to watch the monitors more often"?
