Why does methadone cause such weight gain, and how can you combat this. I exercise daily, I eat very little and yet I cannot lose weight. Some days when I work out I get cold sweats and it feels like my dose is wearing out, then I take a break and calm down and everything is fine. Last time I was on methadone I put on 45 lbs and was completely inactive, I want to avoid those issues this time. Vitamins? Food diet? Does anything prevent the constipation and weight gain?
I have gained 50lbs while on methadone as I know now weight gain is common among mmt patients. I have been eagerly awaiting for the weight to come off but as of yet I haven't lost a lb. I know everyone loses their methadone weight in different ways but I was wondering if anyone started losing the weight as they tapered down? If so, around what mg were u on when the weight started coming off? Or did most of it come off AFTER u stopped taking methadone?
i had read that up to 80% of people on methadone gain weight so i was just curious if any of the people that have been off it for a while had lost any weight.also i could sure drop about 30lbs so i was hoping that my quitting methadone would also help to lose some weight probably wishful thinking.looks like excercise is the only answer.
I was on methadone for 4 yrs(120mg) and gained 40-50 llbs. I was always an active and in shape type of person never going passed 150llbs and im 5'10". Once i started tapering it all came off and by the time i was at 3mg i was 140llbs. I also exercised, took multi vitamins, herbs, whey protien and what gnarly said, no red meat seriously. Every time i eat red meat now i get a crazy upset stomach. As my gf says, theres no excuse to not exercise even if its light exercising.
The cavities may be a result of a sweet tooth,some people experience a carbohydratecravind and weight gain,but that weight gain may be a result of a better lifestyle and not as much running around.Methadone has been around since the second world war and has a lot of research done on it.I wouldnt blame it for any and all my problems.Why not go to a eye specialist about the eye problem.You can ask,and see if theres any correlation,who knows?
s the nature of the beast. Most people gain weight on Methadone but I never did. Then I got off of it 5 years ago and quit smoking and then gained a little. Methadone slows down digestion and make the GI trac sluggish and isn't a drug that's conducive to muscle tone. You could try to exercize more and eat less cabs and fats or go way down on dose or get off, which you may not want to hear.
ok thats more then my prego weight......145 lbs i went to doc ( now, i did mention this weight gain to my methadone clinic, and they did do blood work, but never said nada about nada too me) So i went to my P.C.M. doc that has NOTHING to do w/ methadone med im on. of course she knew i was on it, but didint like it, so i told her symtoms and she gave blood work....it came back

HI the weight gain is tuff to get around I switched sugar for sweet n low that helped a bit your best bet is get into a gym and work out ultimately its to get off the methadone but your problem is fairly common when your ready to come off the stuff look me up I can help good luck and God bless........
hi and welcome to the forum....well I to put a lot of weight on wile on methadone went from a slim 36in waist at 185 to a 44 in waist at 246lb it is very common to gain weight on this drug....for me once I got into the lower doses it started to come off.....it is different for everybody but it all boils down to metabolizem methadone slows that down with time it will come back up and the weight will start to come off.....eating right is only part of the equation...
I HEARD THE NEW STRIPS ARE GOOD CAUSE THE NARCAN CANT GET OUT LIKE THE PILLS, I WOULD SPLIT THE PILL IN HALF AND THATS WHAT CAUSED MY PANICK ATTACKS I GUESS, BUT I WAS TINY SKINNY AND NOW ON METHADONE IM SO FAT, NO ONE WILL BELIEVE ME THAT IM NOT PIGGING OUT, ITS JUST WATER WEIGHT!! I dont believe methadone has anything to do with weight gain or loss, its your life style that changes , your eating habits your activity level. Ive been off of methadone for over a year and ive lost 40 plus pounds , but was due to the change of lifestyle, i exercise and eat healthy . When i was on it i didnt care what i looked like so i didnt follow a strict regiment.
