I am a 26 year old male having hbsag and hbeag=+ve,hbv dna =1070 iu/ml(Taqman) but my LFT results are normal(sgpt=37,sgot=33).My doctor has asked me to take lamivudine 100 mg for 6 months or until it becomes -ve.My mom is taking lamivudine for the last 7 months after her hbv dna crossed 8 lacs iu/ml.Probably I have been infected from my birth.Is it possible for both of us to completely cure Hep. B after taking lamivudine.
what happens if u took lamivudine for 3 months for fHbsAg (no HbeAg) then stopped for 2 months and your LFT got worst, do you start the drug and complete for 6 months? or what do you advice me to do?
One of the three patients was participating in a famciclovir trial and the other two were receiving lamivudine therapy for active hepatitis B infection. All three patients had documented hepatitis B flares, and all had hepatitis B virus DNA detected at that time. All patients developed decompensated liver disease despite one patient having had a prior liver biopsy showing absence of cirrhosis.
Lamivudine 150 is meant for HIV patients or patients coinfected with HBV and HIV.Only Lamivudine 100 is usually prescribed for hepatitis b patients.But whatever be the dosage its not at all safe to be treated with lam. due to its high risk of resistance associated with it.Moreover it is also very weak as compared to the newer medicines like entecavir and tenofovir.You should change your doctor and see to it that your new doctor prescribes you entecavir/tenofovir.
HEPATITIS B
George had already had chronic hepatitis B for seven years by the time I first met with him. Drug medicine had not helped, and yet vitamin therapy had never been offered to him. Here is his account of it:

Your post is confusing. The usual definitive test for Hepatitis B positive is the HBsAg test. If you test positive for HBsAg then you are Hepatitis B positive.
In some rare cases, you may test HbsAg negative, but your viral load (hbvdna) is detected, then you have what is known as Occult Hepatitis B.
Most likely in your case, you tested hbvdna "negative" after being on Lamivudine, but you still tested HbsAg positive.

My doctor prescribed Lamivudine 100 mg once daily for three months. Pls advice can I continue with the drug.
About one year ago when I conducted Hepatitis B profile, I had NON RELICATIVE INFECTION but about one year on lamivudine I am now REPLICATIVE. Please what does this suggest? I am planning to stop taking lamivudine because it gives me so much side effect ranging from stomach discomforts and back pains and general weakness. The doctor I met this time related all these complaints to lamivudine.
hepatitis D is not a virus it is a kind of hbv parassite which uses hbsag to act as a virus, without hbsag there exsists no hdv
To evaluate how much kidney protection telbivudine confers, researchers monitored kidney (renal) function in 831 hepatitis B patients who received a combination of antivirals for 96 weeks, including:
Telbivudine and adefovir
Adefovir plus lamivudine
Adefovir plus entecavir
Adefovir alone
and entecavir alone
Among the five treatment groups, significant improvements in kidney function was observed in the adefovir plus telbivudine and adefovir plus lamivudine groups over the study period.

HBeAg clearance off treatment was demonstrated for interferon alfa- 2b. Lamivudine for 52 weeks versus placebo increased HBeAg loss at 16 weeks off therapy. HBeAg loss at 24 weeks post treatment was greater after peginterferon alfa-2a versus lamivudine.
HBeAg seroconversion was assessed in 36 studies. Lamivudine or adefovir increased HBeAg seroconversion versus placebo. Interferon alfa-2b64,83 increased post-treatment seroconversion.
HBeAg +ve HBV hepatitis and HBeAg -ve HBV hepatitis. Hence it is better to test for HBV DNA rather than looking at HBeAg.
Hence I would suggest you to consult your gastroenterologist and get these issues clarified.

I'm a hbv patient for more than two years, the results of my lab tests are as follows:
HBsAg=reactive
Ant HBs= non reactive
HBeAg= non reactive
Ant HBe= reactive
Ant HBc= reactive
HBv viral load = below detection limit.
ALT=26
AST=22
my questions, does this implies one of the following:
1. chronic HVB carrier?
2. acute HVB carrier?
finally, please help me interpret the results.
hello can i ask what other medicine for lamivudine?. because in middle east they dont have medicine like lamivudine in the pharmacy.
and lab result on 29-11-2012 shows viral load 11872iu/ml, 69095cp/ml, put on lamivudine 100mg for 3 months, lab result on 12-03-13 shows viral load 159iu/ml, 925cp/ml ask to continue with the lamivudine for another 3months before viral load test, i will do the test 2 weeks time, but since then i've not check the hbsag value, God in me, amen, believe, faith.
