Avatar m tn I have been advised to undergo surgery for reconstruction of ACL and repair of Miniscus .I had this injury 5 years ago after that had occassional pain and had a fall about 3 years back while playing football with kids . I have reservation in undergoing the surgery for my knees purely on my prsent mental state .I am yet to accept that I am fine and not sure about my condition(post CABG) I am not able to plan anything lontime .
182884 tn?1259312906 If anything, the reverse would be true because a more recent injury will still have swelling that ideally needs to disappear before an ACL reconstruction can be performed. An older ACL tear means the leftover ACL parts would have dissolved over time, there'll be less to clean up on the inside of the knee, and there is no injury swelling to deal with. The ACL reconstruction procedure is the same regardless of how old the injury is. And your age does not prevent you from having ACL surgery.
Avatar f tn I had reconstruction surgery on my knee over 2 years ago. They took my hamstring for my new acl I had part of my lateral meniscus removed and 8 holes for micro fractures. I fell off a semi-truck at work. I now have chronic pain. There is not a day that goes by I have no pain or swelling some days are worse than others. I was told that my pain from surgery will be no longer than 6 months and now it is 2 and a half years. Is this normal after this kind of surgery?
Avatar n tn Also, I was considered nearly 100% healed after my initial ACL reconstruction in 2001. It does not always pop and never has until the injury this May. I never had difficulties with the knee after my surgery until that day. The popping, grinding, and pain in my knee has been been directly related to the injury on May 11.
Avatar m tn 5 years and then as luck would have had it, I again injured the same knee while playing. MRI scan revealed that it was an ACL tear this time. So I got the ACL reconstruction done with the doctor using my hamstring as part of the process. To make things worse again, I broke my ACL again after 2 years. The doctors are saying that this this may not be very common but at the same time it is not too uncommon as well. Professional sportsmen break their ACL almost every season (though I doubt this).
Avatar f tn about six months later, after a lot of pain and swelling, and being told by residents that the pain was normal-they saw the hardware was backing out on its own, the screws were protruding about a half-inch from where they were originally placed, flush with t he bone. They srgically tried to remove the hardware, got five or so out, then abandoned the rest because two broke off upon removal attempts.
Avatar n tn Those with active lifestyles but acute ACL deficiency and those with chronic ACL deficiencies that result in functional instability that endangers the menisci. Keep me informed if you have any queries. Bye.
Avatar m tn Thanks doctor for your reply, my age is 40 and right now i can not make my leg straight and lock the knee it stays in bend position. i am more eager to know my knee will be normal after surgery?

Avatar n tn hello pempen. Can you tell me why your ACL was not reconstructed? If your ACL is torn completely, you will require ACL reconstruction. I don't know why was it not done? or you are planing to do it later? Do get it done soon, otherwise you will get many problems in later life. Without your ACL being reconstructed, walking will have a lot of instability pattern especially walking uphill, etc. Also kicking bike, playing football , etc will not bepossible. I still don't know .
Avatar m tn In the mean time, my PT prescription has changed as a result. I did have ACL reconstruction using allograft surgery on my left knee in 2001 as well as lateral and medial meniscus repair. All of this was revealed to both the doctor and PT both verbally and on the entrance paperwork. So my question is how am I supposed to recover from an ankle injury if there is an accompanying knee injury. Why was this never checked??
Avatar m tn The anatomy of knee or knee joint configuration would have changed after the knee fusion surgery to do any sort of surgery after that. Yes I think an orthopedic surgeon experienced in knee replacement after knee fusion could possibly with difficulty could have done it. Keep me informed if you have any queries. Bye.
Avatar f tn I'm a 23 year old Male, tall and athletic build, who has had 4 knee surgeries. The first two were complete acl and miniscus (both sides of left meniscus) reconstructions and the second two were done in later years to remove further scar tissue and damaged meniscus that continued to get worse. I am now 9 years out from my initial acl reconstruction and my knee couldn't be feeling any worse.
Avatar f tn What can be reason to reduce flexion of knee joint after ACL reconstruction surgery even after post operative physiotherapy, draft was taken from hamstring .
Avatar m tn Consult an orthopaedician for evaluation and you might require an arthroscopic exploration of the knee joint and ACL reconstruction under regional anesthesia. Xray of the leg including knee joint is of course required to rule out bony fracture. You can take over the counter NSAIDs, apply hot fomentation etc for supportive therapy. Hope this helps. Take care.
