Common Questions and Answers about Knee pain diagnosis arthritis

Avatar f tn Pain on either sides of the knee is usually related to meniscal tears, injuries to the collateral ligaments, and even to arthritis. Pain in the back of the knee can be caused by arthritis or Bakers cysts (cystic accumulation of synovial fluid, also causes a swelling). So as you can see, arthritis can cause an overall knee pain. Ligament injury causes pain to worsen on walking, bending and stretching the knee.

Meniscii too if torn or injured, result in joint instability—that is you are not confident the knee joint will take your weight. Often the person feels a popping sensation on moving the joint.
Avatar f tn I have knee pain and swelling that comes and goes. I have been to an Orthopedic and have had x-rays and MRI. Nothing specific was noted in the x-ray and scan. The Dr suggested orthoscopic surgery to see what he might be able to do. I have not had the surgery. He also suggested I may have osteoarthritis. The pain will come with walking, sometimes very quickly and sometimes not much at all.
1041953 tn?1259072690 The surgeon warned my husband and I that in 15% of patients with severe arthritis, going in with a scope and messing around in the knee will result in an exacerbation of the arthritis and accompanying pain. Well, I fell into the 15% .....naturally! I also have the disease to a severe extent in my spine and in my hands. I see my rheumy again on 11/30, and am going to ask for x-rays of my hips because I believe that the arthritis has settled there as well.
Avatar f tn I am feeling pain in my right knee for 7 years now and all the doctors say they don't know the reason. One of my doctors did say I have bruising on the inside of my knee and gave me medication. After a few days, it wasn't working and the pain kept coming. I have a pain on the inside of my knee. It's constant unbearable pain. It hurts to where my whole leg gets numb and my feet gets cold. My knee also has this stingy feeling and they give out on itself.
Avatar n tn With no other symptoms and only a history of Psoraisis, you go in the line of Psoriatic arthritis, mild arthritis, past knee injury etc till diagnosed. Take care!
Avatar f tn About a month later my wrists started to feel better, but I started getting the same pain in my ankles, and my left knee. It really hurts alot when I walk or have to lift my knee. My knee almost feels swollen. I have never heard of a joint pain that moves around I am so lost. I am tired of taking Ibprofin and sleeping on a heating pad! I went to my primary DR. He took blood, x-rays and urine, but they all came back normal.
Avatar f tn I have pain in my left shin. It starts just below my knee and goes down to about 4 inches above my ankle. I have the pain when I'm sitting and sleeping. It can be bad enough to wake me at night. It's not a muscle pain but feels like it's the bone itself that hurts. I only have it in my left leg. I don't have the pain during the day while I'm working or walking only while sitting or sleeping. I do spend time on my feet at work but less than I used to.
Avatar n tn I have had extreme knee pain (to the point where I can now barely walk as it is), and I don't know what the problem is. In March 2008, I had an operation to help remove a torn miniscus, and the pain went away after physical therapy. Now it's back (been back for about 5 months), and in BOTH knees now, rather than just one. Went back to the same doctor that did the operation, and he gave me some anti-inflammatories that worked for a week then quit working.
1961313 tn?1326290364 Hi! Pain on either sides of the knee is usually related to meniscal tears, injuries to the collateral ligaments, and even to arthritis. So on medial side it will be due to medial meniscal tear. It can also be tendinitis due to inflammation of tendon at the knee joint. You will need X-rays and MRIs of the knee to find the exact. Treatment will follow correct diagnosis. Do consult an orthopedic specialist at the earliest.
Avatar f tn But the pain could also be due to other causes like Tendinitis, in which inflammation of the tendons can produce similar pain. Arthritis or bursitis can produce pain in the joints. Arthritis is inflammation of the joints. Bursa are sac like structures above and below the joints which helps in the movement of the tendons around the joints. These can get inflamed causing bursitis. Treatment can be initiated only after a confirmed diagnosis.
Avatar f tn Since high school, after running track for 4 yrs, (7 yrs ago) I hav had knee pain. In the last couple of years it has gotten worse, radiating to my hip. It happens when I've been standing or walking too long, or if I'm cold. Could this be a trauma induced osteoarthritis?
Avatar f tn It could be a ligament or cartilage problem or displacement of the knee cap or even arthritis. There are other medical conditions that can cause knee pain. Do you suffer from gout at all, is the knee inflamed and red or just painful? I would advise you see your doctor for a proper diagnosis. Your doctor may refer you for xray. I have osteoarthritis in both knees, but my right knee is the worst.
Avatar f tn Hello, I'm 14 years old and i have had pain in my knees, hips, and now on the side of my right shin. I started having pain in my left knee in December of '08. Then my right knee started hurting. Then both of my hips. MY hips are the ones that hurt the most now, not so much my knees anymore. I've been in ballet for 9 yrs also. I've had x-rays (sunrise, and lateral?), blood tests for arthritis but nothing came up.
Avatar f tn Over the past 4 days I have been experiencing pain/Throbbing in my right knee. I do not recall doing any activities which may have damaged it in anyway. The pain feels like it comes from underneath my knee cap, slightly to the right. It throbbs when I am sat down, and if i move my knee left or right whilst my foot is on the floor I get a very sharp shooting pain which makes me jump.
Avatar n tn Well just a couple of months ago my other knee started with the same problems. Just pain mostly. Then about 2 weeks ago I noticed my elbows were hurting. No swelling, but they get painful as they are today. Sometimes a couple of fingers hurt. Also, for the past few years my ear aches at night and I have to switch sides. The right side of my jaw hurts as well and I read that they were probably TMD.
Avatar m tn i am having a sharp burning pain on inside of my right knee, its a constant pain worse when i bend and keep it straightened out for long periods of time
Avatar m tn I had knee pain in outer side of knee while playing soccer. I took serratiopeptidase + diclofenac potassium capsule by doctors advice. I took rest for 2 weeks but when I started playing it started again. Please advice.
Avatar m tn Pain in the front portion of the knee can be caused by bursitis (inflammation of the lining of the joint, possible due to injury while playing), arthritis, or injury to the patella cartilage (front portion of the knee). Pain on either sides of the knee is usually related to meniscal tears, injuries to the collateral ligaments, and even to arthritis. You will need X-rays and MRIs of the knee to find the exact. Treatment will follow correct diagnosis.
Avatar m tn my brother 26 yrs old is suffering from both knee joint pain since two years.he has consulted orthopeditian and rheumatologist, what they said is everything is normal(non specific arthritis).even his blood parameters and xray are normal.but he cant stand more than two hours or cant walk even one kilometer.can you suggest the probable diagnosis.
Avatar m tn 30, with my gf and my knee got super tight and after another step a SHARP pain shot through it and I nearly fell. We had only gone about 4 miles and had warmed up properly and stretched, the weather was warm so I wasn't cold or tight when it happened. I have seen my medical department and they suspected ITB or Meniscus problems. However after about 2 months of aggressive icing, stretching, and physical therapy I can now run LESS and less before the pain comes back.
Avatar m tn i got a bad knee if i try to work on it i start limping and it throbbs and ackes even in t he summer time is that arthritis or do u think theres something else wrong in there
Avatar f tn The pain has gotten extensively worse now affecting the knee. I went back to doctor and the doctor said it is arthritis of the knee and that, at this point, no tests were necessary. Well, in spite of anti-inflammatory meds, I cannot put my full weight down on my leg without pain that seems more concentrated directly under the knee. I am walking around limping. I am afraid that if something else is going on, I may be injuring it more by walking on it. Can you answer the following for me?
Avatar n tn There are so many different reasons that could be the cause of your knee pain. Arthritis, Ligament issues, Cartilage or Meniscus tears, Chondromalacia Patella (knee cap) Bursitis and the list goes on. I don't know your age but my first guess would be arthritis, especially because of the way you describe it. Often when arthritis begins it will be after you rest an fairly active knee. And yes you can have it in just one knee.
