Avatar f tn It turns out I have 5 kidney stones. I am new to this. One is 3mm is long and was blocking 2/3 the way down. I was bloated, felt like I would vomit, and had extrem pain. after morphine. they sent me home. I was better and thought I had passed the stone until recently everything is returning in the same order as yesterday. I am scared and dont want to return to the ER they said 3mm was not that big but almost admitted me. I am a bit confussed and really not feeling well.
Avatar m tn I think this is a rational concern. Yes, kidney stones can cause damage to the kidneys. Not all the time though. It can cause the kidney to atrophy, thin and not function as well. Or an infection can happen related to the stones. But, when the damage happens, it is usually when the stones are not detectible in terms of symptoms. The person doesn't have pain so they go a very long time with the stone. You had pain and are scheduled for surgery.
Avatar f tn I am a 60 yr old female with extensive history of kidney stones since 1978 (before lithotrypsy), recurrent infections & blood in urine. I am prone to both calcium stones & uric acid stones. First kidney stone was size of a walnut & could not pass so was removed by actual surgery. Over the yrs I experienced more stones that would not pass so more surgeries. Have developed scar tissue in both ureters & have had 2 stents. Extreme pain so stent removal.
Avatar n tn I have had half a dozen kidney stones in the last year or so. This definitely sounds like it could be a stone. The pain generally happens as the stone goes into the ureter and travels to the bladder. Once in the bladder, it doesn't usually hurt too much but may cause frequent urination, etc. If you don't have anymore pain, i would just strain your urine for awhile and wait to pass the stone. If you have more pain, you can go to the ER and have a scan done.

Avatar n tn calcium oxalate stones, struvite stones, uric acid stones or cystine stones. Potassium citrate is used for the treatment of stones. Treatment modes include oral medicines, Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithrotripsy (ESWL), uteroscopic stone removal and percutaneous nephrolithotomy. Please discuss these treatment options with your urologist. Also take less calcium and oxalate rich foods and supplements like dairy products, colas, chocolate, peanuts, leafy vegetables, and tea. I hope it helps.
Avatar f tn The sone is too big to pass and he can't tell what kind of stone it is until I pass / remove it as meds do not work for all of them. I understand I need the surgical treatment.......I WANT it........I just want to have a say as to which one I have. I do not want the blasting, it can cause blood clots and bruising to the kidney and research says it only about 30% successful......... Perhaps I did not phrase that question right!
Avatar f tn So I'm almost 18 weeks and I found out I have kidney stones :/ is any one else going through this?
Avatar f tn That's too bad. Can you be more specific for what you have tried so far? Are you working with a doctor? This article has ways to combat kidney stones. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/kidney-stones/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20355759 A 9mm kidney stone is big and those often don't pass on their own. This article gives some ways to remove it from having it surgically removed to using sound waves to break it up to using a scope to remove it, etc.
Avatar n tn Hello, Although there are kidney stones as calcium stones but Drinking milk does not cause kidney stones. Hence your mother can take dairy products under her doctor’s guidance. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. Treatment can be started only when the diagnosis is confirmed. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar m tn Hello, Since the kindey stone is 7 mm, so the symptoms seem unrelated to the kidney stones. Since you are having pedal or leg edema, hence your cardiac, liver and kidney functions need to be assessed for which I suggest you to consult a physician immediately. Abdominal causes like irritable bowel syndrome can also cause such symptoms. Common symptoms include abdominal cramping or pain, bloating and gassiness, and altered bowel habits(alternate constipation and loose stools).

Avatar m tn After reading your post I can only assume that because your stone is just 2mm in size, with no apparent growth, that your Urologist thinks it should be able to pass on its own. Usually, from my personal experience, a stone of that size will pass on its own, but can still cause you quite a bit of pain while passing through your kidney. The amount of pain however can differ between stones and between sizes of stones before they do pass.
Avatar m tn Hi, How are you? Kidney stones less than 5 millimeters in size almost always pass on their own while stones larger than 6 millimeters may not pass on their own. The pain from passing a kidney stone is typically sharp and cramping. It may begin in the back and side where the kidneys are located. As the stone moves down the ureter the location of the pain may sometimes change. It is fairly common for persons to feel pain in the groin and testes.
Avatar n tn I am on an antibiotic as well as percocet as it is the only drug that takes the edge off. My question is, how much longer will it take for the stones to pass? Any home remedies for pain and to get these stones on their way? Could these symptoms be something else? I am going to follow up with by GP by wed, so any info would be great, especially regarding tests I should ask him to run. Thank you.
Avatar n tn I have had recurrent kidney stones since 2000 in 2001 I finally was told that I have Medullary Sponge Kidneys the problem is that in the last 2 months I have passed at least one stone a week and I am sick of being in continuous pain. The ER won't do anything but give me pain medicine and sometimes treats me as if I am just a seeker of drugs.
