1619332 tn?1299021545 So after they made the pain go away and they gave me pain medication to take home and a follow up appointment with a Urologist to check out the remaining 3 kidney stones and to make sure I passed that one I was sent home. Well the Urologist seemed nice and he took another CT scan on my follow up appointment to make sure I passed my first kidney stone, which I did, and check out the other 3 in my right kidney. He told me that to just come in for check ups and that was it.
Avatar f tn It turns out I have 5 kidney stones. I am new to this. One is 3mm is long and was blocking 2/3 the way down. I was bloated, felt like I would vomit, and had extrem pain. after morphine. they sent me home. I was better and thought I had passed the stone until recently everything is returning in the same order as yesterday. I am scared and dont want to return to the ER they said 3mm was not that big but almost admitted me. I am a bit confussed and really not feeling well.
Avatar m tn The pain of kidney stones are excruciating for some and others feel nothing, depending on the size of the stone. The pain comes from the stone moving down from the kidney to the bladder via the ureter. Once it is in the bladder, usually you shouldn't experience any pain . Drink lots of water!!! This is the only way to flush them out. You will never know if you have passed it out in your urine unless you strain it.
Avatar n tn Hi, How many times have you experienced this ? Was this present prior to the treatment of your kidney stones? What kind of treatment did you undergo? This may be case of dry orgasm or orgasm with no seminal discharge. The following may lead to a dry orgasm: "Retrograde ejaculation. In this condition, semen is forced back into the bladder instead of out through the penis.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with kidney stones at age 33 (I'm not 35) and had 16 stones over 3mm in both kidneys. After ending up in the ER thinking I was dying, I was sent home with a diagnosis of prostatitis (looking back I had tell-tale kidney stone symptoms!). Imagine an ER doc telling you he has to check your prostate when you are in excruciating kidney stone pain!
Avatar f tn It took a few hours but finally (after a CT scan) they figured out that i've got 2 kidney stones. One was still in my kidney and the other blocked my kidney from releasing into the bladder I was told...which I guess is where all the pain was coming from. They gave me dilaudid for pretty much the entire first day and then the pain went away on my right side so they stopped giving it to me. I left the next afternoon but was horribly cranky that entire night.
Avatar m tn I to have a history of stones & even dealt with one stuck in my urethra for 5 months ( i was still getting my fix of hydro so why bother) until i got a Major infection, as u should know being in the medical field as well, so i had zero choice to have 2 surgeries in 1 week. Congrats to 16 months clean, thats awesome & what i'am striving for ( i'am only at 29 days ) but being in the medical field u know sometimes u might just need them.
Avatar n tn they have to take leave to send me to hospital, they have to use their money for treatment that was exceed my insurance allowance. i can say, from the passing kidney stones until the removal of stent, i was suffer so much!
3183592 tn?1344634338 I squirmed around trying to find any relief, but nothing I did made a difference. I had treated hundreds of patients with kidney stones, but now, I realized, I was the one who was about to wind up in the emergency room. My wife drove me to the hospital where I worked, and I greeted the ER director miserably letting him know that I thought I had a kidney stone.
757137 tn?1347200053 Magnesium will get rid of kidney stones, and cranberry juice will prevent them.
Avatar n tn Hello. I have a history of kidney stones and passed about 3 stones roughly 8 years ago. For the past 4 years I have known of the presence (confirmed by IVP) of a stone in my right kidney. There have been few symptoms, just an occasional jolt of pain (maybe once per month). Most recent CT scan showed it is now 8mm. I believe it was originally around 3 mm when first diagnosed. My physician is sending me to see a specialist due to the current size of the stone.
889090 tn?1241064402 Due to my history the urologists were not convinced I could pass the stones and suggested a surgical procedure to remove the stones immediately. I have only been able to pass six of the 107 stones in the past. I was scheduled for the procedure that afternoon April 24, 2009. The surgeon passed a small fiber-optic instrument called an ureteroscope through the urethra and bladder and then into the ureter.
Avatar n tn Last year EWSL was attempted 3X to remove small, stubborn stones in my right kidney. Stones were not blocking the ureter but were causing pain for months. After 3rd attempt at EWSL it was decided to try laser treatment cystoscopically. This was "partially" successful. Some of the stones were removed, some he was not able to reach. I was left with a stint which came out before I made it home from the hospital.
Avatar f tn As you are complaining of discomfort in the kidney area for a couple of months and have to urinate more often and feel that you haven't emptied your bladder, could be a sign of a Urinary Tract Infection. If you have kidney stones moving - they can take months to come down if they are moving; you would experience pain in the kidney area, or have renal colic (like wind pains in the belly). As they come down they can scratch and aggravate the tubes and hence cause infections.
Avatar f tn I currently take Urocit K and HCTZ to help reduce the amount of stones I produce but find that it's really not making a difference. I used to pass 1 to 2 stones a year but am now averaging 1 every couple of weeks. At this point my family physician and Nephrologist are just giving me pain meds and have basically said that they really don't have any other options for me at this time. I would really appreciate any advice or suggestions anyone might have for me.
Avatar f tn Incredibly, mutant, toxic nuclear painful and just plain HURT, A LOT, multiple kidney stones. Kidney stones can pass and poof - all gone. Then another - or a few others - can make their ugly journey into your ureter days or weeks later. This experience is not fun. I speak from experience. One little 5 mm just about made me grind the enamel off my teeth - but the lovely wretched staghorn model at a whopping 9+mm? And hooked and now on display in a window box?
Avatar n tn no AFIB since but plagued with PVCs ever since. Just had another 24 hr. holter, echo, etc., and all normal except showed 4,000+ PVCs - benign. So heart in good shape. I exercise daily, am 6'4" - 180 lbs., 52 yrs. old and am on Flecinade and a beta blocker. PVCs just seem to keep gradually getting worse(they're bad for a few weeks, not so bad for a few weeks, etc.) and now they're affecting my sleep and exercising (which really tees me off!).
1963554 tn?1325451090 He has a tumor within his bladder and his urine cannot pass thru which goes into his kidney and damages it. When we had Shaggy checked out in May our vet said that it's UTI...because I mentioned to him that he'd pee and then go to other spots and nothing comes out. So he was given anti-biotics. This went on for several months. Then we finally took an x-ray and couldn't really see much, except there were little calculi and that his left kidney was enlarged...
438165 tn?1205235676 H, If this has been causing you much discomfort lately, I suggest that you ask your urologist regarding other alternative foms of treatment for the stones. The risk and benefits have to be weighed in managing your condition. When was the last time you had your follow up? When was the last ultrasound or scan taken? Has your kidney function been recently assessed? Do keep us posted with your answers.
1522652 tn?1291241954 My back, hips, neck, I had frequent headaches in the morning, the hot flashes and night sweats were constant, I had intractable heart burn, and had passed 6 kidney stones in 2 years. (I passed them at home-not something I'd recommend...) I was so tired that everything was a chore. The kidney stones gave me UTI's (I learned after the first one to take Uristat (pyridium -urinary tract numbing agent) and Cranberry capsules which kept the infections from starting.
Avatar f tn I am sorry to hear about the situation you are experiencing - I've been there. I too manufactured multiple kidney stones. The pain can be brutal. To answer your question: I think it would be appropriate to contact your PMP and discuss your proposition with him. It certainly makes sense to me that your pain requires periodic control and not constant opiates. It's pretty sad that a Urologist cannot RX an opiate for you more regularly - but that's the state of our Opiate Phobic country.
Avatar f tn Hello, Potassium citrate is used for the treatment of stones. I would suggest you to get an evaluation done from a urologist to determine the type of stone. Treatment modes include Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithrotripsy (ESWL), uteroscopic stone removal and percutaneoud nephrolithotomy but it depends on the size of the stone. If the size of the stone is small, it’s usually treated with ESWL in which shock waves are given from outside and stone breaks into small pieces.
748543 tn?1463449675 For the past few weeks I have been throwing around ideas as to the best way to respond to this matter. You see a recent article ( Feb.3 , 2009 NY times) titled "Best treatment for TMJ May be Nothing" nearly made me clench my jaw to pieces. While well written, I found that the author, Ms. Brody, relied heavily on out dated and narrow perspective supplied to her by a small group of dentists.
Avatar n tn I started with more frequent trips to pass urine, offensive smelling urine and extreme pain predominantly in my left kidney, which was always at its worse when waking up in the morning. For several weeks a ignored the pain until it became too painful to bear. I went to my GP and was immediately put on one weeks course of antibiotics and submitted a urine sample.
Avatar f tn I know I've flushed out kidney stones. I've figured out that the cause of my kidney stones is high fructose corn syrup in some of my favorite foods like fig bars which I've given up. I would not be surprised if that had something to do with my gall stones.
Avatar n tn There is no treatment really, you just have to wait it out. Use a donut or other type cusion, you can alos use a phone book and just hang your tailbone off the back.
Avatar n tn Less than 10% of asymptomatic patients may have a poor long term outcome due to kidney stones, kidney infections, and kidney failure. However, with the appropriate treatment for increased calcium and kidney stones, as well as prevention of infections and kidney failure, this number is reduced. You need to have close follow up with your doctors if you have any of the conditions described. This information is provided for general medical educational purposes only.
1704625 tn?1310712361 frequent and urgent urination with unability to fully release bladder, decreased bladder control, abdominal pain mostly lower, about 3 weeks ago had sudden and harsh abdominal pain below rib cage that pierced through to my back, nausea no vomiting, headaches, lower back pain, extreme fatigue (had 2 seperate sleep tests done about 3 1/2 years ago, shows that I have narcolepsy which I take meds for but still tired), fluactuating weight changes, I am told for past 3 years that I have protein in my
Avatar n tn The reason your doctor has probably given him pain medication and told him to drink fluids is he thinks the stones are going to pass on there own. About 95% of stones less than 5mm that are in the distal ureter will pass on there own.
Avatar f tn There is a treatment for kidney stones if they can't pass on their own. His Dr would have to do the procedure in the hospital. They break the stones up into very tiny pieces that can be passed. I think he would be able to come home that same day.
