Common Questions and Answers about Kidney stones home treatment tips

Avatar m tn It was found that my stone was calcium based and I was told to avoid all dairy products as well as some fruit and veg. There are 4 different types of kidney stones. Unfortunately, once you have had kidney stones the chances of getting another one are much higher.
Avatar n tn Hello. I have a history of kidney stones and passed about 3 stones roughly 8 years ago. For the past 4 years I have known of the presence (confirmed by IVP) of a stone in my right kidney. There have been few symptoms, just an occasional jolt of pain (maybe once per month). Most recent CT scan showed it is now 8mm. I believe it was originally around 3 mm when first diagnosed. My physician is sending me to see a specialist due to the current size of the stone.
1832268 tn?1326819610 We could try a cerinia injection, take her home and continue sub qs, but there was little hope that we could get those kidney values down low enough to make her feel much better. I wanted to take her home so badly and try ANYTHING, but I couldn't put her through any more misery just to buy me a day or two more with her, so I made the hardest decision of my life, and I'm heartbroken and feel so guilty. She was the sweetest, smartest little girl.
Avatar f tn Did your Vet really send her home with nothing???? Why is he Not treating for the Anaplasmosis? The treatment of choice is always Doxycycline and the dog should show remarkable improvement in 3-5 days once started on the antibiotic!!! The kidneys need to supported with fluids & medication and a renal diet until the disease is past.......Fluids are vital to flush the toxins quickly...You can do this at home once the Vet shows you how......
748543 tn?1463449675 For the past few weeks I have been throwing around ideas as to the best way to respond to this matter. You see a recent article ( Feb.3 , 2009 NY times) titled "Best treatment for TMJ May be Nothing" nearly made me clench my jaw to pieces. While well written, I found that the author, Ms. Brody, relied heavily on out dated and narrow perspective supplied to her by a small group of dentists.
1916673 tn?1420236870 Higher than normal potassium is not very unusual in kidney disease, but it is important to discount other potential causes - including kidney or urinary tract stones. An ultra-sound and white blood cell (WBC) count will help identify if stones are a problem. Phosphorus is also too high. Dogs acquire phosphorus directly from food, and normally (in healthy dogs) any excess is excreted through the kidneys.
2361255 tn?1339611918 As far as Meds for kidney disease goes,Dogs with kidney failure will end up getting ulcers, throughout their digestive tract, and because of the ulcers, the vet will prescribe anti ulcer medications, as well as anti nausea meds. Dogs with kidney disease will also experience a rise in their phosphorus levels, so typically a phosphate binder is given. And when the dog is not drinking, and not staying hydrated enough, then it is time to start administering Sub-Q fluids.
Avatar n tn We must all remember that theraphy only focuses on trying to stop or lower viral replication, and not to cure any infection liver already suffered before treatment. I guess these home remedies for liver cirrhosis will help and not harm.

242516 tn?1368227505 The flu has passed epidemic rates in much of the country, and if you don't have a cold, I'm sure you have a friend who has the sniffles, fever, chills, aches and pains of a viral upper respiratory infection. This is different from a bacterial infection such as sinusitis, bronchitis, or pneumonia. A viral infection doesn't improve with antibiotics as these infections do. A virus hijacks your own body's healthy cells and uses it to reproduce and spread.

Avatar f tn I've battled countless surgeries for stones. I've ruptured my kidney. I'm 43 and my first stone was at 21. As a child I had UTI's constantly. I recently got a renal ultra sound. It came back not good. Dr thinks last stent might have caused damage. Today I did a lasix renal washout scan. I feel horrible. They said it wouldn't effect me but I'm exhausted and nauseated. I had some renal Colic. Has anyone went through this?
Avatar f tn I really don't know about what you can do for your kidneys except drink a lot of cranberry juice. I had kidney stones the first of the summer and I knew I had to get that fixed before I went on any treatment. I had them do the shock wave treatment and it crushed up most all of the stones. I remember I did drink a lot of coconut water the kind in the healthy food section and you know when I came home from the hospital and had to pass the stones myself I didn't have any pain passing them.
Avatar m tn However when you have no insurance you don't exactly get the same treatment as someone who does. I don't have a UTI, I have been checked for them but I do have kidneys stones, often times I don't even know I am passing them, sometimes it is very obvious that I do. I am in the process of having a spinal tap scheduled, this is of course would be to detect protein in my spinal fluid to see whether or not it's MS. I hear there is another way to check for it but I"m still in the dark about it.
Avatar f tn Anyway, I was feeling symptoms as usual yesterday after school. Getting home I could barely walk and had my boyfriend take me to Safeway to get AZO pills. I took AZO last night along with Ibuprofen and again this morning but I am still feeling pain. (The AZO hasn't kicked in yet) All I'm wondering is what it could be, or what I should do. I don't want to waster money on antibiotics that the docs tell me to take, then call me to stop because there was no infection.

Avatar m tn She had gone off her food, and vomiting when we took her in. Xrays revealed one kidney was solid stone and the 2nd had 7 stones about the size of chickpeas. Are vet actually recommended we see a specialist and very glad we did. She was clear that the prognosis was not good but if with the use of IV treatment, epataktin, and special diet, if we could get her flushed out and balanced that she might live a few months, maybe even 6 if we got lucky.
Avatar f tn tell me I had a metabolic disorder that was throwing my thyroid into hypothyroidism, which threw my liver enzymes up and into non alcoholics fatty liver disease ... Which then resulted into chronic kidney stones and type 2 diabetes. The best way to support your spouse is not to play the blame game or make him feel guilty at all. Support him by cooking him healthy meals and eating them with him. Remove the temptations and avoid things that can spike his sugar levels.

Avatar dr m tn If you end up in this latter group, your treatment options will include warm soaks, Motrin, and time. If it does not resolve, you may need a vasectomy reversal and it may not be covered by insurance and could cost $4000 to $12,000. You have an approximate 70% chance of responding to the reversal. Of course if you have a reversal, you will likely be fertile again.
Avatar m tn For those that have kidney stones, i had pain on my side and back and an ultrsound revealed a lentil sized stone in my kidney. The doctor gave me some pain killers and told me to go home and wait for me to pass it. He said I needed to pee through a filter to catch the stone and that the pain would be what a woman experiences giving birth. Well I saw my wife give birth and I knew I did not want to go through that. I then went to the internet and found an ad for a product called Uriflow.
Avatar f tn In the fall of '99, I went for an abdominal ultrasound, upper GI, and an IVP (checks for kidney stones). The urologist I saw said that it was a kidney stone, so I had a cystoscopy in Nov. '99; the doctor couldn't find the stone!!!!! Back to square one... All along something said appendix to me, so I went to see general surgeon, and he removed my appendix through a laporoscopy (Apr., 2000); the pathology report was pos. for acute appendicitis. Happy endddding?? No!!!!!!
