1619332 tn?1299021545 So after they made the pain go away and they gave me pain medication to take home and a follow up appointment with a Urologist to check out the remaining 3 kidney stones and to make sure I passed that one I was sent home. Well the Urologist seemed nice and he took another CT scan on my follow up appointment to make sure I passed my first kidney stone, which I did, and check out the other 3 in my right kidney. He told me that to just come in for check ups and that was it.
Avatar m tn calcium oxalate stones, struvite stones, uric acid stones or cystine stones. Potassium citrate is used for the treatment of stones. I would suggest you to get an evaluation done from a urologist to determine the type of stone. Treatment modes include Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithrotripsy (ESWL), uteroscopic stone removal and percutaneous nephrolithotomy. Since ESWL was not successful, the other two treatment options can be considered. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
1028300 tn?1252093974 I have kidney stones and will have to have a stint put in and changed every month. The Dr. said that I could have Kidney failure or contractions if I don't have the stint put in, but I've heard the stint is very painful, sometimes more painful than just having the kidney stone! He sent me home with phenegran and demerol, and said this would not hurt the baby. Does anyone have any experience/knowledge about kidney stones while pregnant?

Avatar n tn When they found the staghorn in your kidney, what was the treatment? Why did it get so bad that your kidney had to be removed? I guess my question is what happened from age 43 to 45 as far as treating the condition when they found the staghorn? Thanks so much for your comments...they are very helpful!
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with kidney stones at age 33 (I'm not 35) and had 16 stones over 3mm in both kidneys. After ending up in the ER thinking I was dying, I was sent home with a diagnosis of prostatitis (looking back I had tell-tale kidney stone symptoms!). Imagine an ER doc telling you he has to check your prostate when you are in excruciating kidney stone pain!
Avatar n tn An utra sound found nothing unusual. The urologist thinks it is either kidney stones or the residual effects of a bad infection. He would like me to get a CT. I am concerned as I have had 3 CT scans after a PE in both lungs 2 years ago after delivery. What are your thoughts? He does not think it is IC because it came on so suddenly. He said that the urine cultures were tainted due to the antibiotics. I can go 2-3.5 hours between void but I am holding it. What are your thoughts?

Avatar f tn It took a few hours but finally (after a CT scan) they figured out that i've got 2 kidney stones. One was still in my kidney and the other blocked my kidney from releasing into the bladder I was told...which I guess is where all the pain was coming from. They gave me dilaudid for pretty much the entire first day and then the pain went away on my right side so they stopped giving it to me. I left the next afternoon but was horribly cranky that entire night.

635114 tn?1222710503 The ER doctor then did a cat scan to search for kidney stones. He found no kidney stones but did say my atrophic kidney is completely shrived and did not think it was functioning. According to llab results my gfr has decreased by 10% in a year's time. As soon as they did not see infection or kidney stones I was quickly booted out. I reviewed my urinalysis and blood work results when I got home. My ph is 6 and chloride is high at 107.
Avatar n tn Placement of stent is usually done along with lithotripsy or nephrolithotomy as a treatment for removal of stones. 3183592 tn?1344634338 I squirmed around trying to find any relief, but nothing I did made a difference. I had treated hundreds of patients with kidney stones, but now, I realized, I was the one who was about to wind up in the emergency room. My wife drove me to the hospital where I worked, and I greeted the ER director miserably letting him know that I thought I had a kidney stone.
Avatar n tn An abdominal Xray is used to look for kidney stones. Bacteria in the urine and flank pain can mean a kidney infection / pyelonephritis but this is usually treated with at least ten days of antibiotics . Your urine culture can direct your antibiotic treatment. I doubt they would have sent you home if they really thought you had an appendicitis. Gallstones can also be in the differential and can be ruled out with an ultrasound.
Avatar f tn Do you have an abscess in kidney detected by CT scan or ultrasound or is it that you have a urinary tract infection and want to know the treatment. Kidney stones too can cause infection of urine. Kidney abscess is a serious problem. Any infection of the urinary system is treated with antibiotics, pain medications and fluids. However it is not something that can be treated at home. There are various tests like urine examination, ultrasound or CT scan that need to be done to diagnose.

Avatar m tn After spending the week in hospital waiting for the operation and several more CT scans and blood tests, I was told I no longer needed to be operated on and could return home. The doctor said that the pain was probably caused by stones and i have passed them. But im sure I would know if I did pas any stones! After this I had a mild pain in my side and around my back that i wthought would just go away but it didnt.
Avatar n tn Hello. I have a history of kidney stones and passed about 3 stones roughly 8 years ago. For the past 4 years I have known of the presence (confirmed by IVP) of a stone in my right kidney. There have been few symptoms, just an occasional jolt of pain (maybe once per month). Most recent CT scan showed it is now 8mm. I believe it was originally around 3 mm when first diagnosed. My physician is sending me to see a specialist due to the current size of the stone.
Avatar f tn Compression of one of the lumbar nerves, the sacral nerve or the sciatic nerve may also be cause of lower left back pain. Kidney stones, kidney infection, irritable bowel syndrome are few other possibilities. Gynecological causes like ovarian cyst, fibroids can all lead to lower back ache. It is important to evaluate the cause of pain before initiating treatment. A clinical examination and ultrasound abdomen may be helpful. I hope you find this information useful. Best luck and regards!
Avatar f tn He was taken out by severe pain about 6 months ago when in his home country of Zimbabwe, he was found to have kidney stones and treated for them. The pain subsided for a while but then reoccurred when back in England. He has been to the doctors who sent him to a urinary tract specialist. They found he had swollen kidneys and liver, his tubes either side of his abdomen were swollen but they could find no obvious cause.
Avatar f tn Hello MSKers! I am new to this support group! I have had surgeries, stints, numerous CT scans, ultrasounds, KUBs & more! I go to my doc every 6months or yearly, depending on my status of stones! I recently had my check up, July 2011, & there are several small stones in both of my kidneys. I know the drill...water, water & more water!!! I am an excellent water drinker, however, I sweat a lot & I rarely have to go to the bathroom! Therefore, my stones do not get flushed out...
Avatar n tn This is not listed in the index of any medical book I could find at the University library near my home. So I am still waiting to read your description of what your stones look like. What color are they, etc. I am very interested to hear about them.
492869 tn?1285022533 -( I should think the fact that my kidneys are concentrating stuff so much that it has the opportunity to turn to ROCK is pretty good evidence that it needs a WEE bit more dilution, LOL. So yes, by all means, I WANT THE TUBES. Hehehe.
Avatar f tn I'm a 23 year old female and have been dealing with constant kidney stones for the past 2 1/2 years. In June of 2013, I took a trip to the ER due to excruciating side pain. A CT scan revealed a 6mm stone was beginning to drop into my ureter. They sent me home with pain meds and told me (nonchalantly) to go to a different hospital if it gets worse due to their hospital lacking an on-call Urologist.
