1916673 tn?1420236870 Dogs acquire phosphorus directly from food, and normally (in healthy dogs) any excess is excreted through the kidneys. In kidney disease the kidneys are damaged and cannot excrete excess phosphorus, which then acts like a toxic substance in the blood. Reducing phosphorus intake is therefore important (check all the foods you may be feeding, including treats, for phosphorus content). The additional way of controlling it is to introduce a phosphate binder.
1963554 tn?1325451090 It seems there is a very long way to go before kidney disease is resolved in humans, so our poor dogs will probably have an even longer wait. It's a dreadfully cruel and shockingly dibilitating illness and I just wish we could find some kind of cure, so no more dogs would suffer from it. In time, maybe, but for now we just have to do all we can to educate people about bad foods and the importance of getting early bloodwork done when the first symptoms show.
Avatar n tn Unfortunately, excess calcium blood levels are usually also present in pets with kidney failure and because of this, newer products specifically Aluminum Hydroxide is considered to be the best product available to reduce excess phosphorus and calcium blood levels. Today kidney therapy in cats and dogs may include Calcitriol, which is a natural form of vitamin D and is compounded specifically for each pet. Capsules are given by mouth once daily.
Avatar f tn Fluids are the first line of treatment for all kidney failure dogs - so it is a consideration. Would it work? Would it lower the blood levels? How long would it lower the levels for? These are all unknown, because every dog responds differently, but it would be wrong of me not to let you know, there's a chance it could prolong life. Hope this helps.
1916673 tn?1420236870 Processed manufactured dog foods usually have the appropriate ratio of these minerals, but when an owner decides to produce home cooked food (for all the right reasons and with the best of intentions), the ratio is harder to achieve. In younger dogs, kidney stones and the resulting blocked urinary tract, inherited genetic defects affecting the kidneys, kidney infections and ingested poisons (notably anti-freeze and rodent-control poisons) can all cause phosphorus levels to rise.

Avatar m tn 'Home Remedies to Make Kidney Stones Dissolve'. I don't think we are allowed to post links here, but if you search that, it should take you to a good piece on kidney stones, on a site called 'Live Strong'. It may give you some ideas that you may be able to use yourself and give you a little more feeling of control. This info may not eliminate the problem, but may help ease the discomfort. I am a firm, lifelong believer in homeopathy.
748543 tn?1463449675 TMJ' as it is wrongly called by many) is easy to treat and self-manage or that it may all be in the patient's mind. 2361255 tn?1339611918 As far as Meds for kidney disease goes,Dogs with kidney failure will end up getting ulcers, throughout their digestive tract, and because of the ulcers, the vet will prescribe anti ulcer medications, as well as anti nausea meds. Dogs with kidney disease will also experience a rise in their phosphorus levels, so typically a phosphate binder is given. And when the dog is not drinking, and not staying hydrated enough, then it is time to start administering Sub-Q fluids.
Avatar m tn One of the problems of high calcium is kidney stones and bladder stones can develop, so this is a matter not to be ignored. Your vet is suggesting euthanasia. I appreciate he is thinking old dog and kidney failure, so better to call it a day. There is some rational consideration to be thought about there. Personally, I can also understand you wanting to do everything you can to prolong life and improve quality of life.
Avatar n tn I fell about three month ago and landed on the base of my back. Managed to make it back home but was in really bad pain. Dr diagnosed soft tissue injury and recommended rest ice etc. Pain continued, x ray showed no fracture, later MRI showed some disc problem and deep bruising . Physio seems to have helped with the disc but the pain is still there and I am on so many painkillers I am unable to work or function normally. It is really getting me down I can't see a time without this pain.
790669 tn?1465192699 I have prayed so much that his rise in number will be because of his reoccurring kidney stones or something like that. Inflammation or anything other than cancer. We're also waiting on MRI results on my moms brain because she's having so many dizzy spells. Last month, in April Brian's brother finally lost his battle with lung cancer. He grew to weak, he couldn't eat and therefore they couldn't continue treatment. It was fast spreading and they couldn't get it under control.
Avatar f tn My vet also prescribed cerenia. Teagan never vomited after she was put on Cerenia. I don't know if it actually settled her stomach though. I could never find any foods she would eat. But, by then she was in late stages.
Avatar f tn She is in fourth stage renal failure-Of course she has seen her regular vet for fluids-ultra sound revealed she has one kidney which is failing. Creatine was 13-subs at home-now using hollistic and homepatic treatment. Recently more bad days than good. I am giving her ice chips which seem to work better for her than lapping. Pedialyte ice is also better.
Avatar n tn Im a 40 year old white male with a history of kidney stones. for the past few years ive had persistent pain, and have been to a urologist. I have a large stone in the left kidney. They suggested i have a PERC done, but since the pain has been somewhat manageable, i havent done anything. especially since they told me that the stone in the kidney doesnt usually cause pain and there were no guarantees this would even solve my problem.
Avatar n tn Let's face it, on average there are millions of these little critters crawling around in every home and most likely millions right in your bed ... on the sheets and in the mattress. I usually always feel relief right after washing the sheets (hot water). I've also found a good application of skin lotion right before bed brings additional relief. People can tell me I'm wrong but that's my best guess.
182493 tn?1348056515 I started the vic's for kidney stones. I was producing about 1 a month. Then I hit a rough time in life and started abusing. I am started to go down the right path...thank god!! I almost lost it all. I can't believe how much those pills controlled me. Anyway I would love to get to know any of you. You all seem great.
Avatar n tn I am ok, but if I wake up in the morning hours; I am in severe pain - in the lower back (kidney area, right and left hip (on the sides) and upper back in the middle. After about 30 min to 1 hr; it goes away. I have a sedentary job and if I sit too long, my hips will ache again and makes it slightly painful to get out of chair, but nothing like the morning.
1358341 tn?1282213443 As far as what to order or get, try to wean your cat off of dry (dry is the worst thing for a cat especially with kidney problems), it might take a while, you can slowly mix in a little can in your cat's dry food ... Opus might have a good suggestion for this as I had no problem with this for my cat. The prescription kidney diet at the vets is generally too LOW in protein and I feel does not help your cat..
Avatar n tn I'm 41 years old non-smoker No history of migranes Current headaches (again, docs say stress induced but I have mine 80-90% of time). Has anyone had success with a Home treatment? (heat? ice?other)?

Avatar n tn then pain meds took over my life, but did not stop me from quater million dollar home further out in the burbs with my wife i met in na. her parents left us the money to pay for it cash. after 3 years of vikkes and some oxys, im clean agian for a year, ive been going to na meeting for 26 years now , and have seen the damage of addiction up close and personal, watched my younger brother o.
Avatar f tn The magnesium is already balancing the acidity, so by adding alkaline water you are pushing the alkaline balance in the opposite direction - and this can lead to kidney stones, bladder stones, painful urination and it can damage the kidneys too. So, in short, I would stop using alkaline water straight away and switch to filtered water. The filtered water has (importantly) less sodium and chemicals but retains an appropriate source of essential minerals. Hope this helps.
172023 tn?1334675884 Urinary tract disease is associated with the build-up of crystals and stones in the urinary tract that can cause painful and bloody urination and potential blockage in your dog as I'm sure you already know. One type of crystal that forms in a dog’s urinary tract is called struvite. Hince is why they probably put him on the c/d. "Prescription Diet® c/d® dog food is formulated specifically to provide nutritional management of dogs with struvite-related urinary tract disease.
452063 tn?1324078516 It's a soft tissue sarcoma It is a low grade tumor and a type that usually does not spread throughout the body, especially if the grade is low. The bad part is that the vet did not get clear margins so it is likely that there are still cells in there and it will grow back and may invaid even farther without radiation. I got half of this as a phone message and have been waiting for almost 2 hours for the vet to call me back. I got alot from googling the tumor and dogs.
