Common Questions and Answers about Kidney stones symptoms home treatment

kidney-stones

Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with kidney stones at age 33 (I'm not 35) and had 16 stones over 3mm in both kidneys. After ending up in the ER thinking I was dying, I was sent home with a diagnosis of prostatitis (looking back I had tell-tale kidney stone symptoms!). Imagine an ER doc telling you he has to check your prostate when you are in excruciating kidney stone pain!
Avatar n tn When they found the staghorn in your kidney, what was the treatment? Why did it get so bad that your kidney had to be removed? I guess my question is what happened from age 43 to 45 as far as treating the condition when they found the staghorn? Thanks so much for your comments...they are very helpful!
Avatar n tn An utra sound found nothing unusual. The urologist thinks it is either kidney stones or the residual effects of a bad infection. He would like me to get a CT. I am concerned as I have had 3 CT scans after a PE in both lungs 2 years ago after delivery. What are your thoughts? He does not think it is IC because it came on so suddenly. He said that the urine cultures were tainted due to the antibiotics. I can go 2-3.5 hours between void but I am holding it. What are your thoughts?
Avatar f tn It took a few hours but finally (after a CT scan) they figured out that i've got 2 kidney stones. One was still in my kidney and the other blocked my kidney from releasing into the bladder I was told...which I guess is where all the pain was coming from. They gave me dilaudid for pretty much the entire first day and then the pain went away on my right side so they stopped giving it to me. I left the next afternoon but was horribly cranky that entire night.
Avatar n tn they have to take leave to send me to hospital, they have to use their money for treatment that was exceed my insurance allowance. i can say, from the passing kidney stones until the removal of stent, i was suffer so much!
Avatar m tn It was found that my stone was calcium based and I was told to avoid all dairy products as well as some fruit and veg. There are 4 different types of kidney stones. Unfortunately, once you have had kidney stones the chances of getting another one are much higher.
Avatar n tn The big dilema is that I've had a kidney transplant about 12 years now and I don't want to jeopardize my kidney for HEP C treatment if I don't need to. Can anyone lead me in the right direction as to where I can look up similiar cases. My doctor wants to treat but with lower doses. PLEASE HELP!!!
Avatar m tn Frequent urination (known as pollakiuria) can be due to a bladder or kidney infection, bladder or kidney stones, diabetes, other hormonal conditions, and lastly behavioural. Several of these conditions can be extremely dangerous if left untreated. Do not attempt to treat a behavioural issue and plan to go to the vet of the treatment does not work.
Avatar f tn No urinary symptoms. What on earth is going on? I have not had a UTI or Kidney infection in prob 10 years. Except for the flu in my family I have not been sick in I can't remember when. I have never had heart problems...my blood pressure is controlled with an Ace and usually runs a bit low. I had a 64 slice CT of my heart 2 years ago and have 0% blockage. My coronary arteries are clean as a whistle. I don't have a-fib or racing heart. No cardiac problems.
635114 tn?1222710503 The ER doctor then did a cat scan to search for kidney stones. He found no kidney stones but did say my atrophic kidney is completely shrived and did not think it was functioning. According to llab results my gfr has decreased by 10% in a year's time. As soon as they did not see infection or kidney stones I was quickly booted out. I reviewed my urinalysis and blood work results when I got home. My ph is 6 and chloride is high at 107.
3183592 tn?1344634338 I squirmed around trying to find any relief, but nothing I did made a difference. I had treated hundreds of patients with kidney stones, but now, I realized, I was the one who was about to wind up in the emergency room. My wife drove me to the hospital where I worked, and I greeted the ER director miserably letting him know that I thought I had a kidney stone.
Avatar f tn Do you have an abscess in kidney detected by CT scan or ultrasound or is it that you have a urinary tract infection and want to know the treatment. Kidney stones too can cause infection of urine. Kidney abscess is a serious problem. Any infection of the urinary system is treated with antibiotics, pain medications and fluids. However it is not something that can be treated at home. There are various tests like urine examination, ultrasound or CT scan that need to be done to diagnose.
Avatar f tn He was taken out by severe pain about 6 months ago when in his home country of Zimbabwe, he was found to have kidney stones and treated for them. The pain subsided for a while but then reoccurred when back in England. He has been to the doctors who sent him to a urinary tract specialist. They found he had swollen kidneys and liver, his tubes either side of his abdomen were swollen but they could find no obvious cause.
Avatar n tn It makes me short of breath and terribly uncomfortable since I have a desk job. The closest thing I found to match my symptoms is kidney stones. I have a doctors appt tomorrow. Am I on the right track? Sincerely, Patsy- (25 female, smoker, heavy coffee drinker] = Dear Pasty Thanks for your question. Flank pain has a large differential diagnosis. An abdominal Xray is used to look for kidney stones.
Avatar m tn After spending the week in hospital waiting for the operation and several more CT scans and blood tests, I was told I no longer needed to be operated on and could return home. The doctor said that the pain was probably caused by stones and i have passed them. But im sure I would know if I did pas any stones! After this I had a mild pain in my side and around my back that i wthought would just go away but it didnt.
Avatar n tn Hello. I have a history of kidney stones and passed about 3 stones roughly 8 years ago. For the past 4 years I have known of the presence (confirmed by IVP) of a stone in my right kidney. There have been few symptoms, just an occasional jolt of pain (maybe once per month). Most recent CT scan showed it is now 8mm. I believe it was originally around 3 mm when first diagnosed. My physician is sending me to see a specialist due to the current size of the stone.
924255 tn?1243881663 Your symptoms are unresponsive to antobiotics and treatment with antibiotics is ineffective. With no blood in the urine and a normal ultrasound, you have ruled out the other clinical problems with these symptoms. You have a 17 X higher risk of having IC because you have a primary family member with IC. You need to see your sister's Urologist or a local one that has experience in IC. You will eventually need a hydrodistention of the bladder under anesthesia to clarify the diagnosis.
1522652 tn?1291241954 My back, hips, neck, I had frequent headaches in the morning, the hot flashes and night sweats were constant, I had intractable heart burn, and had passed 6 kidney stones in 2 years. (I passed them at home-not something I'd recommend...) I was so tired that everything was a chore. The kidney stones gave me UTI's (I learned after the first one to take Uristat (pyridium -urinary tract numbing agent) and Cranberry capsules which kept the infections from starting.
492869 tn?1285022533 -( I should think the fact that my kidneys are concentrating stuff so much that it has the opportunity to turn to ROCK is pretty good evidence that it needs a WEE bit more dilution, LOL. So yes, by all means, I WANT THE TUBES. Hehehe.
Avatar n tn Last year EWSL was attempted 3X to remove small, stubborn stones in my right kidney. Stones were not blocking the ureter but were causing pain for months. After 3rd attempt at EWSL it was decided to try laser treatment cystoscopically. This was "partially" successful. Some of the stones were removed, some he was not able to reach. I was left with a stint which came out before I made it home from the hospital.
Avatar f tn As you are complaining of discomfort in the kidney area for a couple of months and have to urinate more often and feel that you haven't emptied your bladder, could be a sign of a Urinary Tract Infection. If you have kidney stones moving - they can take months to come down if they are moving; you would experience pain in the kidney area, or have renal colic (like wind pains in the belly). As they come down they can scratch and aggravate the tubes and hence cause infections.
Avatar f tn I have an 18-year history with kidney stones with about 2 dozen episodes. The symptoms did not match the typical kidney stones, so I thought it was an infection that anti-biotics would cure. Still I drank lots of water trying to flush the system. My stream was getting gradually getting weaker with each urination. Finally, just after midnight, the stream was at a trickle, I could not sit there all night, so I gave a good push. Like a champagne cork, 2 stones shot out.
Avatar n tn no AFIB since but plagued with PVCs ever since. Just had another 24 hr. holter, echo, etc., and all normal except showed 4,000+ PVCs - benign. So heart in good shape. I exercise daily, am 6'4" - 180 lbs., 52 yrs. old and am on Flecinade and a beta blocker. PVCs just seem to keep gradually getting worse(they're bad for a few weeks, not so bad for a few weeks, etc.) and now they're affecting my sleep and exercising (which really tees me off!).
1832268 tn?1326819610 Breed, Age, Symptoms, Creatine, Bun, and Phorsphorus levels at time of first exam that revealed Kidney Disease, as well as End Stage Symptoms and Lab Values ( if known. ) How Quickly did the disease progress. Did the dog die naturally, or was the death assisted. I think this type of information would be very helpful to anyone and their dog, who has to deal with this disease.
661200 tn?1225486613 Even worse, there isn't a darn thing to do for kidney failure other than treat the symptoms as best you can. Once kidney cells are destroyed, they cannot regenerate like other organs such as the liver can. When kidney failure reaches the last stages, you will notice a marked increase in nausea and vomiting and probably urinary accidents as well. The nausea is from the toxins remaining in the bloodstream that the kidneys can no longer filter out.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with kidney stones for the first time in 2006 when I was 16. I had one surgery in 2008 to break up the stones and was still in and out of the hospital up until last year for the kidney pain and the stones always showed up on x-rays. In November 2011 I went to get x-rays because I was having the pain again, and nothing showed up. I'm still having the same back pain frequently, probably once every 2 weeks.
Avatar f tn Did your Vet really send her home with nothing???? Why is he Not treating for the Anaplasmosis? The treatment of choice is always Doxycycline and the dog should show remarkable improvement in 3-5 days once started on the antibiotic!!! The kidneys need to supported with fluids & medication and a renal diet until the disease is past.......Fluids are vital to flush the toxins quickly...You can do this at home once the Vet shows you how......
Avatar n tn If you didn't have the spine imaged, you should talk to your doc as MS can show up there too. Hypothyroidism can certainly be a cause of your symptoms. Once treated adequately, your symptoms may improve. Another test that may be helpful is an EMG to see if this a problem of your peripheral nerves. Laboratory workup such as ANA, sed rate, blood count and electrolye profile can also help rule out other potential problems such as lupus and other rheumatological disorders.
1963554 tn?1325451090 He said that his right kidney is destroyed and that his left kidney has about 25% left. He has a tumor within his bladder and his urine cannot pass thru which goes into his kidney and damages it. When we had Shaggy checked out in May our vet said that it's UTI...because I mentioned to him that he'd pee and then go to other spots and nothing comes out. So he was given anti-biotics. This went on for several months.
Avatar m tn I was seen by a Urologist who concluded that my pain was not kidney-related. I was sent home with a week's worth of Tramadol, antibiotics (no tests ever showed UTI) and anti-sickness tablets.
