Avatar n tn One way to find out what is causing the lows is to change the timing of your long acting insulin injection. If you are injecting NPH before bed, you can expect it to cause a low at about 3am. Try having this injection in the morning instead. If the night time lows stop, you have solved the problem. If they don't stop, it could be because of the combined effect of exercise and the dinner time short-acting shot.
Avatar n tn per carbs, per starches, per snack, etc Most endocrinologists will put a diabetic patient who uses insulin on a sliding scale of insulin, depending on what the blood glucose is when you test before a meal. What did your doctor tell you?
Avatar n tn http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/uspdi/500253.html and did find some info on skin changes .. "Less common or rare Depression of the skin at place of injection; thickening of the skin at place of injection; ..." This doesn't mention cellulite directly, but it sounds similar. The site also has a clear caution to discuss these or any other changes with your doc.
Avatar f tn There are four main kinds of injectable insulin. The type of insulin you use will depend on your individual needs and lifestyle. Search and understand them before discussing with your doctor. * Short-acting insulin, eg Actrapid: soluble insulin starts working within 30 to 60 minutes and lasts six to eight hours. Insulin analogues start working within 15 minutes and last for up to five hours. Examples are insulin aspart, insulin lispro and insulin glulisine.
Avatar m tn Humalog is a fast acting insulin. Typically it is taken before meals - up to 15 minutes before (not after) to match the amount of carbs eaten. It's duration of action is 3 - 5 hours, with most of the action in the first 2 hours. You need to work out a carb:insulin ratio (ie. how much Humalog you need to cover how much carbs/ protein). If you are going low overnight (how low?), then you need to be taking a lower dose of Humalog with your evening meal. What time do you eat dinner?
1353681 tn?1387083733 When I took out patch a lot of insulin came squirting out of my skin, with a hint of blood. Could this pooling under the skin be reabsorbed and cause severe low sugars? (not sure how much insulin was there, 3 days' worth?) Any knowledge welcome- how could I know also if this would happen at any site? Thank you..
Avatar f tn Insulinotherapy was initiated with glargine, ten units at bedtime (glycemic value before aministration was 169) after reiceiving 6 units of aspart imediately (7 pm). Next day a fasting value of 140 mg/dl. Bedtime value (2 hours postprandial ) 269. After 10 U glargine, fasting value 120 mg/dl. Glycemic variation are very important and depend on the thyroid status. What is your opnion? Is this a temporary glycemic instability, type 2 or type 1 diabetes?
Avatar f tn see if ur doctor can run the nessesary tests to determine if u are resistant to insulin. I added metformin to my regamine and it helps with the breakdown of my insulin. but it can also meamln with sugars so high ur kidneys may be disbursing gllucose. which can be a minor infection. all these are questions to ask ur pcp... hope it helps.
Avatar n tn There are many available types, and all have slightly different peak action and length of duration times. There may be one that matches your own body's clock better. We wish you the best.
Avatar m tn I use long 24 hour insulin with a rapid insulin last 4 hours. the long insulin is for my fating and the rapid is for high BG and food. easy to adjust and easy to get good numbers.
Avatar n tn You may want to check on the 6 hour duration, many insulin experts will recommend you use 4 hours as the length of the insulin duration. So your blood sugar rises because of the immediate release into your system of the carbs in the ice cream, flooding your bloodstream with carbs, and the insulin takes a bit to get working.
Avatar n tn There is a big difference in the action of humalog 50/50 compared to regular. You should really only change your medication with the supervision and guidance of your doctor. Please do discuss this with your doctor.
Avatar n tn Insulins generally tend to have three general characterisitics -time of onset, duration of action, and peak of onset.
Avatar m tn There is no doctor responding on this board, only peers. Your C-peptide is very low which means you are not making sufficient insulin. I'm not familiar with that type of insulin; I assume it is a long-acting (basal) type that you take just once or twice a day? It sounds as if you might now also need bolus (before meals) injections. How are your post-prandial numbers (two hours after meals)? Some people just go to MDI's (multiple daily injections) and some go to the pump.
Avatar m tn just been put on insulin after 25 years of pills, told to take 4 units, but after 4 hours sugar is 450, after a 200 reading in the morning and eating only oatmeal.
Avatar n tn is aptly named because that is what we try to do with our insulin usage. We are trying to mimic the action of the pancreas in people who don't have diabetes. Their bodies have a low level of background insulin all the time and that's why we take our basal which lasts 24 hours (sometimes not so we split the dose). Then their bodies give off spurts of more insulin when they perceive carbs being eaten.
Avatar m tn The onset of action ranges from 45 minutes - 1 ½ hours, and the duration of action is six hours. Diazepam carries a bi-phasic half-life of 20-50 hours (for Diazepam), and 30-200 hours (for Desmethyldiazepam). Valium is indicated for the long-term management of generalized anxiety and tension-anxiety. Tolerance will not develop to the anxiolytic property of Diazepam, although tolerance will develop to the sedative/hypnotic property.
Avatar n tn amount by how thick or thin the crust is (more crust, more insulin now); and I adjust the duration based on how much fatty content the pizza has (more fat, longer duration). While I've read elsewhere that the dual wave might actually be best for us for all types of meals, I haven't invested the time or detailed data collection to work out the mix for different patterns of food.
Avatar n tn I would suggest you talk to your endocrinologist and tell him, you problem, he might be able to switch you r insulin type or see there are other things causing you to have dry eyes. Several types of medications can cause that condition. Hope this helps. Pleas let us know how it goes.
Avatar f tn I would ask your doctor who prescribes the methadone.
