Avatar f tn Hello, I guess they are concerned with liability issues. Anyway, the approaches for losing weight are are follows:- 1. Optimising insulin. Excess insulin will encourage your body to store fat. Particularly reducing the amount of carbs you eat will mean your insulin requirements will reduce. Note that this must be done carefully as your insulin requirements can drop rapidly. 2. Exercise (but you must monitor your blood sugars closely to be sure you don't go high or low). 3.

Avatar n tn Can anyone give me an idea of how long it usually takes for your metabolism to recalibrate after stopping Effexor and/or Lexapro? I've gained significant weight while on these drugs (despite an intense exercise program and careful diet). My nutritionist and MD told me that the drugs likely altered my metabolism, but no one can tell me how long it will take to correct that. Most frustrating, I've noticed that since I stopped taking both, my weight gain has accelerated.

Avatar f tn I have had a MRI done on my lower back telling me i have a disk buldge and arthritis . Is there anything I can do for the chronic pain and as for fixing the disk or any solutions i can do so that i can have my back back to normal?
Avatar f tn So, that is my goal. To, over the next three-ish months, lose between 23-30 lbs, and thus reach the ideal weight for my height, build and age. To flush my body of all the nastiness I've put in it for the past five-ish years. To get it running in optimal condition once again. Any and all encouragement would be greatly appreciated... I'm not sure I'll make it without that.
Avatar f tn I have moderate anxiety, so I'm just really worried that its not a fluke. I'm a healthy weight and very active. I am vegetarian and eat a low fat and sugar diet. I would say my biggest problem is my anxiety and the unneeded stress I put myself under. I try so hard to take care of myself and I know that my results point to only very mild kidney damage (if any), but I just cannot handle any more medical issues, and I have no idea what to expect or think.
Avatar m tn Swimming is very good, especially back-stroke. Weight lifting using low weight-high rep technique can also help as a preventative. Neck exercises can also help. There is a method that PTs recommend called the MacKenzie system that is explained in his book (Robin MacKenzie) Fix Your Own Neck. Check it out. Ice, heat, and NSAIDs (always take with food) can also help. Massage is a wonderful way to de-stress and have the upper back muscles get some relief.
Avatar m tn The report points out that a staggering 117 million American adults have preventable, chronic diseases, many of which stem from poor diet. One of their recommended solutions for this is turning to what they call the "Healthy Vegetarian Pattern." Notable characteristics of this diet include no meat and more nuts and legumes.

1110049 tn?1409405744 I won't get off this diet till I get down to my ideal weight of 165 pounds or in June, if I start weight lifting again, then 170 would be ideal...I've never been any heavier than 170, but most of that was in muscle gain? I am now losing 1 1/2 pounds a day and I'm doing it safely. I thought this would be hard, but it's been so easy praise the Lord. Prayers are good for the body and soul. I just love this diet...

Avatar n tn Teachings by Dr. Fung are quite useful for diabetes management. You may also look further at Dr. Richard Berstein. His work is specificallty dealing with diabetes (Type 1 and 2 management). His book is "Diabetes Solutions", and he has a lot of information on U-tube at Bernstein Diabetes University. Dr B recommends about 30g of carbs per day - but this also depends on your tolerance, which you determine using your blood sugar meter.
Avatar n tn rearfang,i forgot whether or not you may have mentioned your weight but pegintron uses weight based formula so this is a benifit for overweight people. but it doesn't sound like you would have controll over this in the study anyway. also, pegasys probably won't pay for procrit so is this a concideration for you? i pray for wisdom for you for your decision.
1164735 tn?1263993494 Additionally I would suggest modest amount of weight loss ( at 52 inches your ideal body weight is 120 pounds), maintain a good cardiovascular fitness level with routine aerobic exercise. If you do that you will minimize the risk of having a coronary event to less than that of the general population.
Avatar n tn Hi, The ideal way to lose weight is not to starve oneself. Starving yourself will only make the body pack in more stores for another bout of starvation, so you are not helping yourself by this process. You will need to keep your calorie intake over 1000 per day if you want to lose weight. It is possible that the gall bladder problem may have contributed partly to your weight gain. The best option for you to lose weight would be to consume small meals very 2 hours or so.
799380 tn?1237570161 Also, if you're overweight, getting down to your ideal weight might help as well. In addition, depending on how you eat, you can look into changing your diet and possibly add some vitamins and supplements after running them by your doctor. Some people seem to do better on a higher carb, low fat diet and some have more energy on a lower carb, higher fat diet.
Avatar dr m tn Although it would be easier to pop a pill to get some sleep, the results wouldn’t last too long. In fact, many of the short term solutions out there that promise better sleep fast, only deliver just that: speed without substance. Also, if clinical studies are any indication, taking a sleeping pill isn’t proven to help you get to sleep faster than a sugar pill will. Sleep in modern times has become commodity—something to be bought, measured and traded.
Avatar f tn 0 if it is to be normal (from literature ideal non-diabetic A1Cs will be in the range of 4.1 - 4.6), yours is well above this. Please discuss seriously with your doctor about meds. Keep up with regular exercise, weight management and diet.
Avatar f tn I am a type 2 diabetic, so I really have no experience with type 1 situations. However, your son's craving for the cereal soubds to me like a diet prob;em which might be addressed by following the Zone diet. which would put him in a fet burning mode. Read the Zone Diet by Barry Sears to understand how the body responds to diet. He dlaims that hos diet would eliminate the craving and not require his giving up the cereal.
Avatar n tn and i'm 28 and tired of the fight, i want to start eatting right now so i can live the rest of my life, but in order to do that i would have to go on a major diet and exercise everyday just to get to my ideal weight and with the natural way could take a year or more. and that's if i don't fall off the wagon.
545538 tn?1295995617 if i was overweight the only way I would treat is lose weight or if absolutely necessary take weight based ribavirin. There have been some obese people on this forum that have taken as much as 2000 mg of ribavirin and still did not clear.
Avatar m tn Yes, I understand that you lost the weight on your own. Weight gain and inability to lose weight are often symptoms of hypo, so it's a little surprising that you were able to do that while hypo. It's inconsistent with your TSH, which bothers me. FREE T3 and FREE T4 (not total T3 and T4) are the actual thyroid hormones. They are much more important than TSH and should be what all meds decisions are based on. TSH is very volatile, varying significantly even intraday.
