Avatar n tn My question is about my ideal weight. My goal started at 150 pounds, then 140, then 130, now I'm thinking my ideal would be 120. Should I be taking into consideration the weight of the hanging skin that I can't get rid of? Am I being realistic in shooting for 120?

Avatar f tn Hi there and thanks so much for posting this question I would suggest that at your age you are careful with changes in your metabolism. What is metabolism? Metabolism is a collection of chemical reactions that takes place in the body's cells. Metabolism converts the fuel in the food we eat into the energy needed to power everything we do, from moving to thinking to growing. If you want to lose weight The safest amount of weight you can lose is anything from .5 to 2 lbs a week.
Avatar f tn Hi there and thanks so much for posting this question! Yes I can hear your frustration as you know it is a combination between healthy nutrition and physical exercise the most effective approach. Now lets talk first about exercise: Are you exercising too hard? You have to remember that when you exercise too hard you may be burning muscle and not fat so although you are burning calories you may replenish them after staying with high levels of fat.
Avatar f tn You should be shooting around -2 lbs a week. Keep in mind at first (when you have excess weight) you'll lose weight very quickly, and as you get skinnier it gets a little harder. If you ever find yourself at a plateau, where you're not losing anymore weight just drop your calorie intake a little more. Its as simple as that! I strongly strongly STRONGLY advise you do some workouts (arms legs chest etc) while you're doing this.
Avatar n tn Anyone know a good way to gain weight? I'm not sick, I just have a high metabolism. I'm 5'4" and I weigh 102. Yeah, I know, what am I complaining for? It's not all it's cracked up to be... I don't weigh enough, and I feel like I eat all the time....
Avatar f tn First, it should be noted that based on 147 lbs and 5 ft 5 inches tall, your weight and BMI fall within the normal category. Per the calculator, your ideal body weight range is 111.17 to 150.23 and current BMI was calculated at 24.46. From the history you have provided, in my humble opinion, I believe your body may be in starvation mode. This is when your caloric intake is not sufficient to maintain your weight based on the level of energy you are expending.
Avatar f tn ) Here's a great calculator to use: http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.htm Take care!
676912 tn?1332816151 I posted a question not that long ago about not gaining weight. I'm starting week 18 today and I still have not gained a single pound. I'm not complaining about it too much since I am a little overweight to begin with, but my concern is the baby...is it ok for her for me to have not gained weight? Is she gaining as she should be even if I haven't gained weight?
Avatar n tn I feel like all the ideal measure on weight and height out there are scewed for people that lift and have large muscle mass. Im concerned Im overweight but not sure if its healthy weight or not? I made an appt for this week to get blood work done to figure out if it is a thyroid or some type of hormonal problem. It was commforting to hear Im not the only one with this type of problem! Thanks for all the info!
Avatar f tn If you google BMI calculator, you will find any number of programs that will let you enter your height and weight, and they give you your BMI. The ideal range for BMI is considered to be 20 to 25, and your BMI is right about in the middle of that range. No need to worry. Just eat healthy foods and get a healthy amount of exercise, and you will stay in the same weight range that you are now. If you grow in height, you will naturally gain weight, but it will be proportional. YOU'RE PERFECT!
Avatar f tn In addition As I answered in a previous thread the way of finding out if you have an ideal weight you need to follow using Hamwi formula, a simple formula commonly used by many clinicians. These are recommended weights. Talk with your doctor about what weight is best for you and before undertaking any new diet or exercise programs. You can learn more about BMI and see what it is for your current weight by checking out our Body Mass calculator. http://www.healthstatus.

Avatar f tn Metabolism: Eat more Frequently If you have a small appetite, try to eat more frequently and add “Good calories” For example, add mixed almonds to your breakfast or as a snack . Some protein shakes can help you as well to increase your weight in a safe way. This increases your fat intake and calories without increasing the volume of the food you consume.

Avatar n tn Thank you for mentioning this. I'm not a overly large person in my opinion but every time I take the BMI it tells me I'm overweight. My family, friends and coworkers say I look fine for my height. I know I have a larger bone structure because I can't get bracelets to slide over my hands, I can't wear anklets and I can wear blazers unless I have them altered to fit after I buy them because my shoulders are wide.
1599563 tn?1297502137 It is sitting in my wardrobe, the door is ajar and the sleeve is poking through to motivate me, I haven't tried it on yet but I know it will fit a lot better if I lose some weight! I've lost weight before and find it easy when I get going, kick starting myself!
Avatar f tn The lower your net calories are every day, the more weight you will lose. Keep track of the calories you consume by using an online calculator or a food diary. You must know what foods and beverages you eat or drink and the amounts you consume to get an accurate calorie count. Your calories burned is equal to your basal metabolic rate, or BMR, and your activity level. You can use an online calculator to determine how many calories you burn each day.
